Different outcrops are supposed to drop different materials, right? Then WTH?

I am prospecting on a planet supposedly high in Technetium and Tungsten but every type of outcrop I investigate has the same materials:

Plain Outcrop: Cadmium, Chromium, Vanadium, Iron, Nickel
Mesosiderite: Cadmium, Chromium, Vanadium, Iron, Nickel
Metallic Meteorite: Cadmium, Chromium, Vanadium, Iron, Nickel
Bronzite Chondrite: Cadmium, Chromium, Vanadium, Iron, Nickel

[mad] WTH?

Bad luck. They have different chances for different drop tables. Sometimes you only find garbage in all of them, sometimes the very rare ones drop from a normal outcrop. Only Bronzite Chondrite seems to be dropping garbage consistently.

What planet, and what does the system map DSS scan say about what is available on the planet?

HIP 5904 A2a, among other things according to the detailed surface scanner supposed to be:

1.7% Technetium (not finding any)
2.2% Arsenic (not finding any)
2.5% Tungsten (not finding any)
3.2% Selenium (getting lots)
3.6% Cadmium (getting lots)
5.4% Zirconium (not finding any)

and I am practically tripping over iron, nickel, chromium and mercury even though chromium and mercury do not even show up in the DSS scan or the system map.

As much as I hate the demonization of "RNG".... RNG!!!!

You just got unlucky, man. Happened to me the other night. Went out looking for tungsten, I think. Nothing. So much nothing that I logged out and gave up.

Logged back in the next day, tungsten everywhere... as far as the eye could see. Tungsten, tungsten, tungsten.

Just bad luck.

I think that's the ticket. Log out and try another day, thanks. o7

Most of whatever I need seems to be in MM's..
If I find any Metallic Meteors (MM's), I log to Menu and relog in again.
Most times MM's seem to spawn in the same areas, but that may be a false impression.. call it OCD or somesuch..
Ive found MM's on flat ground between craters, or inside craters at the base of the wall/edge, or deep within the crater.
Dunno if that helps any but RNG is a pain..

I like the suggestion of finding a MM and relogging. Technetium is supposedly found in MMs however, I am currently having bad (RNG) luck even with MMs. Wilco. Rep.

The different types aren't supposed to drop different materials, they just have a chance of dropping different percentages of rare, med-rare, etc materials and that's all. You can still get crap materials from an outcrop and even good materials from Mesosiderite, just not as often...

You forgot to make the weekly ritual sacrifice to RNGus, didn't you? :)

Spent three hours earlier today not finding any Polonium on a 1.5% planet. I've also not had any Arsenic for the last 2 months because it would never drop for me. Probably 30 hours looking for it. But then I have real bad loot luck in any game I play so your milage may vary.

Yes in those cases I leave the planet and hit another one and usually have better luck. Sometimes it seems if you aren't getting any sign of the material you want, but it states there's a chance, leaving the planet and hitting another one similar works...

RNG, baby, it's a thing. Sometimes all you see, are chickens. The darn planet is supposed to have drop bears and lemurs and pink iguanas and what not, and all you find are endless chickens. Then there are the days, where every rock has yttrium and polonium and you get super-very-close to a nervous breakdown.

Instance reload can help; but mostly the chances are set on spawn, and no-matter where you go, those percentages (or chickens, so many chickens!) will haunt you.

It's okay, you'll be looking for Iron next week; you won't find any but everything will cough up arsenic and polonium in vast (vast!) numbers and you'll come <this close> to a nervous breakdown.

:D Found my technetium honey-hole, Wregoe RL-L B21-2, you figure out which planet. Took a couple of hours to pick up 27 tons of the stuff. Tungsten was cake, not going to say where I got it but it took about 30 minutes to find 25 tons. Picked up almost 2.5 million on the exploration data as well.

[wacky] I think what I did wrong at first was I tried to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, going to a planet rated high in both technetium and tungsten. After blasting rocks there for 2 days and finding neither element, not even a single ton I narrowed my search to a single element, found an appropriate planet and the flood-gates opened. o7
