All mission generation problems consolidation thread...

I'd like to weigh in, some of these points have been mentioned before:

1) As an Elite, I'm still getting harmless and mostly harmless missions with relative payouts

2) Economy and state don't seem to be influencing mission selection

3) High grade engineering materials (Bio-tech Conductors/Cracked Insdutrial Firmware) exist but are excessively rare and some of them send out to Colonia

I added numbers to you r post for reference...

1) Added already
2) I have not observed this, and am reticent to add it without understanding it myself, please can you be more specific about what the behaviour was before 2.4 and what it is now?
3) Hm...I don't see an issue that a mission that rewards a material you are looking for is sending you to Colonia. If ALL missions for that material were to Colonia, that would be another matter.

This was acknowledged long before today's update (cargo rewards rendering mission value of 60 credits for example), and Adam had said this was considered ok, because the value of the cargo rewards was 60 grand, bringing the specific mission in line with others of its type. Many of us suggested this was silly, but obviously change management didn't agree (I don't blame Adam, he has an approval process like anyone else and time spent on a problem needs to be justified). I was hoping this would have been corrected (I was hoping engineer cargo would be gone with 2.4 to be honest), but hey, it's not a huge deal.

Oh sure, not blaming any individual dev at all. But to me it is a decent deal. :p The pointless cargo means I cant do many missions in my small ships or be forced to gimp them with cargo racks for no reason other than being able to get stuff I immediately dump out of the bay again. At the very least they should allow me to just refuse the reward completely (heck, I dont care about the 50k reward or whatever, so we can ignore that for now). And I saw very low rewards earlier, but literally zero credits is new to me. Could be wrong though.

Completely agree on all points. Neither of my combat ships have cargo racks (DUURRRRRR!).

These two are probably connected - it takes a fairly large mission payout in the first place to be able to afford converting some of it into a high-end material. If you're only seeing low-pay missions, none of them will convert...

The Colonia destination missions, being higher pay, have more room to do a conversion like that, so that's where they show up.

So that suggests there's nothing wrong with materials as such, it's just that the reduction in pay for short-range courier missions and the absence of some mid-pay mission types from the Sol bubble has taken away most of the opportunities for them to appear.

This actually makes sense. They have material reward tables roll depending on the credit value appointed to a mission and after nefing the payout, they didn't update the material tables. So either they just forgot about it or they want to wait and see how the credit balance went before going through those tables. I suspect the latter. Beats having to go through all the tables every time you fiddle around with the payouts.

Yes, it was described in a similar way by Adam in another thread. Much logic in Ian's post.

Huh??

I am a new player and I am curious why all of the missions I see are 20k LY from me? I am a fairly poor commander and I dont want to spend all night just making jumps.

Before 2.4 I could get fairly local missions for decent cash but now all I see is stupid long distances and the rewards arent even worth the time investment for the mission.

It really makes me dread loading up the game knowing that this is how things are now.

😕😕😕

Having looked more closely, I'm not sure that is it - there may also be a problem with the high-end materials. I'm seeing lots of missions with payouts in the <0.5 million range with cheap commodities or low-end materials replacing some of the payout.
I'm also seeing lots of missions of various sorts with payouts in the >0.5 million range with pure cash payouts.
I'm not seeing anything with a higher cash payout and either any commodities or materials.

So plausible theory, but I was probably wrong.

Missions to colonia seem slightly reduced, now only a handfull per board. Not sure if this is new, but I now keep finding missions with no financial reward beyond garbage mats/data and literally useless cargo.

Cool. Note how this is even in a Boom state. Maybe we'll need to start paying for the privilege to do missions soon?

This may be slightly completely off topic, but would you mind sharing the settings you used to get that UI coloring? I keep trying and failing to find a readable color layout, but that looks perfect.

Good list. I particularly like these ones:
Additionally, Navy and permit missions should NEVER spawn a cargo reward, and never to an outpost, so they can be done in any ship and won't be hidden in 'missions you can't take'.
12) Follow on missions should not have acceptance requirements (e.g faction standing friendly or allied), or cargo rewards.

My pet hate, is when I get to a station that is 500Kls from the star, the only missions on offer are ones that need you to return to this station.

It's a bit screwed up ATM,, Hang in there, I am sure it's being sorted out.

FYI, It's fine in some places.

If i may add one comlaint to the list, that would be long range cargo missions, which seem to have completely disappeared from the game .
Btw, when i say "long range", i don't mean those cargo missions to Colonia, but those cargo missions from systems just outside the bubble (400\500 ly from the bubble).

I simply can't understand why they decided to kill those missions..... they didn't pay much (at all), they were not exploitative (in any way) and they offered an alternative to those 1 hop cargo missions, an alternative which some people enjoyed much more than the usual short range cargo mission. Go figure.

Previous number 3 was addressed in patch (general disappearance of delivery missions), so I replaced it with yours and labelled it midrange delivery missions between 60 and 5k ly.

3) No midrange delivery missions (1 reporter at time of edit), more than 20ly but less than 20k, where have all the 60 to 5kly delivery missions gone?

Also added a new one from my own observations last night doing multiple assassinations and spec ops...

14) Assassination and wetwork missions frequently send you to a very distant body (20kls plus). The payouts are not commensurate with this.

And another from the other thread, which I also believe is a bug...

15) System state and govt type seem to affect the variety of available missions TOO heavily. In a Boom system for example, 60% of missions will be boom data, etc. This should be toned down to increase variety.

I have one......i can't seem to spawn any follow on missions outside of occasional charity missions. Anyone else seeing this?

No, I got a bunch of follow ons last night from boom data deliveries (and donations). I also got a follow on from an assassination, saying I killed the wrong dude, and now we're sending you after the right one. That made me giggle. And also, I noticed that before 2.4 only donations and planetary scans spawned follow ons for me (and I don't do planetary scans any more, obviously, lol). I'd love to know what the generation script is supposed to do with these, what the rules actually are.

Assassinations spawned them as well in 2.3. :) New is the 'grab two biological samples from thargoids using research limpets for 11 million credits' mission I just got offered while flying around. :D

Good summary of the mission problems and I can't believe these still haven't been fixed.

Rewards are still giving useless commodities no longer required in the game. No common sense applied to mission payouts either.
