Oh no....oops

I just pancaked my ASPX onto a metallic world at the core, 2000ly from SagA and I want to cry [cry]

I've been exploring for more than a year although actual playing time was not that long...been taking long breaks.

Still, a dozen ELWs discovered, hundreds of neutron stars, black holes, white dwarf stars, countless water worlds...all lost. Probably 50-100m by the time I got back but the money is incidental.

I've been so careful as well, not overtaxing the engines, making regular repair stops.

Totally my own fault, coming in to land on a 2g world, I'm tired, got distracted. I've landed enough times on worlds like this and much higher g but this time I didn't notice my speed until too late.....boom.

On the plus side...I was getting very tired of exploring and was making my way back which at my rate of play would have taken weeks...so that's taken care of.

With the new exploring stuff coming out in a year+ I might venture out again and I've got my markers for the important discoveries.

But right now....just gutted.

Thought I'd share [sad]

I had a similar loss when I returned from Sag A* the first time, so I have an idea of how it feels. I didn't play E: D for a month after that! Commiserations Commander. But as you pointed out - the bright side is that you are back in the bubble, so there is lots of stuff to do to take your mind off it. Have you visited the Thargoids?

Been there previously myself, done that, got the teeshirt, etc.. It put me off exploring again for a while, but I soon got back in the saddle, and now I'm just about to hit Elite Explorer in the next 24 hours..

You'll bounce back (no pun intended...;))

Hard luck Commander :(
But I have to compliment you on stating being tired, your own fault etc [ugh] Very mature and refreshing.

Sometimes it does seem that the 'grind' gets too boring and rewards too little......
But make ONE mistake....... blink at the wrong time..........let an ally fly into your beam laser trajectory etc......... And you will be HUGELY punished lol !!

Absolutely gutting, and I'm feeling for you. However, as many folks have said MANY times, the game isn't called Elite : Easy or Elite : Comfortable or Elite : NoDamage .... it's called Elite : DANGEROUS .... for a reason! I have seen so many people tell (and it's happened to me too!) of how they lost concentration for only a moment - a few seconds can be a LONG time! - and BAM! They are back at the rebuy screen.

You just have to take it on the chin, learn from it, and as the saying goes 'get back on the horse' .... well ... 'get back in the cockpit, Commander!'

I wish you luck with your future flying, see you out there in the black!

I like how the ship computer says "High Gravity Warning" when you deploy the SRV.

Yeah, thanks computer, but if I hadn't noticed the high gravity on the way down you wouldn't be here to warn me about it now.

Sorry to hear of your accident; and while I didn't die, I pancaked into Beagle Point. I was shaken for days afterwards so I can empathise at least a little. Hope you have everything noted down so you can go get it again "quickly".

My condolences.

I was unnerved by the Intel packets I was carrying around for the Empire, and Alliance I just could not seem to give away, when I decided a Suicidewinder was just the thing. I jump in a Rent-a-Wreck and set about ramming the station. When at the last moment I remembered all of the incomplete Exploration data I had as bookmarks for a return with the proper scanners. Poof, up in Sidey smoke.

Thanks for the support guys...I had to post, no one else would understand.

I can't imagine telling the Mrs.....I think the words 'up' and 'grow' would feature heavily in her response.

It's been years since I've seen a rebuy screen, in my grieving state I nearly clicked the wrong thing....but I didn't thankfully.

Well there's lots of new stuff to see and do now I'm back, I left just before engineers dropped so everything has changed.....'I remember when all this was asteroid fields'

Ho hum

I've done the same in a lapse of focus, fortunately in my case I only lost my shields & 25% of my hull but only luck saved me. I was 12klys out at the time.

Get straight back in the saddle buddy :)

Congrats on hitting elite explorer...when it happens.

This sparked an idea for me have a drop ship module you can deploy and keep the mothership in orbit as you defend to a planet, it has 16t of cargo and srv hanger in it and can be collected when you recall your ship to take off

Not a lot of point behind it other than a fun thing to use

Sorry for your loss, were you on your way back from sag a?

If you feel brave..next time the Mrs breaks a nail say..... 'Oh grow up'...I did that once.......once...........

Being divorced aint all that bad really ;)

Congrats on joining the club :)

It happens. You just have to get up and move on. And you will. See you in the black!

Now that's impressive that you've been out there all this time. I spent my first year or so exploring, but it was the engineers that tempted me back (since when I haven't been more than a few thousand LYs out). Welcome back. :)

A minute of silence for our fallen brother. o7

I did a similar thing in my Explorawinder, the "Reggie Perrin".

Decided I'd had enough of missions, headed toward Sag A with great fervour, got about half way, decided to explore a random planet, de-orbited without noticing it was a 4g planet.
It was all going fine until I banked slightly, at which point I fell out of the sky like a piano falling off a roof.

Fortunately, it turned out the Sidey is a tough little ship and I only did about 30% hull damage.
Carried on my way without further incident.

lesson learned about paying attention to local gravity conditions though.

Yup, I'd spent a couple of sessions coming back from Sag A....thought I'd stop to pick up some mats...I heard arsenic is much needed in engineering and I found a metallic world (actually it found me, very hard at high veloticy) with lots of it so I thought I'd vary my playing and do some driving/collecting for a change....bad decision.
