PSA: Not sure if anyone spotted this but a dev has confirmed there will be paid content as well as the free stuff...

I don't get the point of this thread...

How is the premium stuff Sandro is referring to any different from lets say Horizons? Something you had to pay for as well...no?

How someone was able to find a bridge to engineer vouchers for $1.99 is beyond me.

The supposed issue is, from what I gather, that they are working on other stuff beyond what they said. Its like this:

1) Only work on paid DLC = we need depth!
2) Only work on Beyond = we need Atmo and spacelegs!
3) Work on both = they probably do a poor job at the free stuff!

I would pay another £100 to be able to fly around in "normal space" without speed limits, "critical attack angle", "orbital cruise" or "glide mode". Keep all those things for supercruise, by all means, but i would sell my nan's kidney just to be able to indulge a little natural spaceflight with realistic gravity.. like we had in the previous games. That was really the very bare minimum i expected and wanted from a new Elite.. Without it, ED is utterly pointless and devoid of fun..

That's because trolls always find a bridge.

Whatever FD is doing, it is doing wrong. Don't you read internet?

That is never, ever going to happen. Sorry. If that is truly how you feel, I am afraid you have little choice but look at games that aim at giving that experience. :(

Well there are games covering that need, just not ready for full consumption yet. Also not for such scale.

It would hard to imagine online Newtonian Elite though.

That's encouraging. While I'm great with core gameplay, I'm also all about new pay features, so long as they add worthwhile content!

Fully d'accord with the Spacekitten here. I'll be spending money on add-ons with a smile on my face for good, worthwhile content. No problem at all.

I assumed there would be a Paid update coming After Beyond and there would be already a team working on it, as they always seemed to have had team working on the current x.0 stuff and another team working on x+1.0 stuff

That pretty much sums up the forum.
No matter what FDev do, it will be wrong as there are only negatives to any choice it seems that matters here.

I don't understand the controversy over Frontier selling things. ED wasn't free, Horizons wasn't free; the PC/Xbox/PS4, assorted peripherals, electricity and internet we all use to play ED certainly aren't free. Why is buying new content during 2018 suddenly a line in the sand?

I honestly don't care how Frontier plans to sell (or give away) new content in the future. I just want to get my hands on it.

ED wasn't free, Horizons wasn't free

Exactly. How many times do you have to pay for the same game before it's complete? I knew there was going to be some sort of catch with that "free for horizons owners" shtick. There's something really, really weird with this fanbase if they hear "oh by the way you'll have to pay for more stuff" (quietly tucked away in a forum thread well after the attention-grabbing show by the way) and their response is raucous applause and sycophantic screams of "shut up and take my money!"

Because people believe everything should be free because this is an exceptional way to build a business that stays solvent and can deliver legs we can use on planets that have rich biodiversity and truly immersive experiences in deep space where there are endless interaction possibilities, with combat ships that have infinite load out options (yet are 100% balanced) where everything is perfectly balanced with credits that do and don't exist in vast supply and Braben personally arrives at your door to shed a perfect single tear as you make elite after 600,000 hours of "having fun" and they deserve all of this because their experience is indicative of all.

tl;dr - all people have left to moan about after frontier essentially said "yeah, ok, we get it, here's a ton of stuff you've all asked for" is that we might have to pay for some of the stuff that isn't actually core.

Expansion packs have been around for a long time, they're not exactly some devious new invention. Frontier has always been upfront about ED being a game which would be built upon over a relatively long term. Frankly, they're being more generous than most developers would be by letting players access anything from new expansions without buying in.

You can always leave buying a game until expansion releases stop and some kind of "complete edition" comes out, usually for no more than people paid for the base game at release. I do that with plenty of games myself, although less because of the cost and more because I often prefer to have everything there from day one.
