Simple dev question: clarify future paid content

I refuse to get drawn into any controversy, I'm just genuinely interested in what they have cooking. TBH, if Fdev is working on a substantial paid for "expansion" that lifers get for free and all others (myself for sure) need to pay extra for I'm absolutely cool with that. I've never had any issues with what this game costs to produce, or to play.

Yeah, these were my thoughts and intention here. I could have done with far less dung-stirring that implied I was dung-stirring. I am very simply interested to know whether I'll be paying for expansions/paintjobs/etc. (happy to do so) or paying RL money to unlock ships they develop (not happy to do so).

There is no controversy. We have a user who refuses to hear what the devs are saying and keeps spouting the same 'sky is falling' doom and gloom in the face of direct statements to the contrary.

We need a thread ignore button along with the user ignore.

You are quite right; there is no controversy, or doom and gloom for that matter. I wanted a single piece of clarification, or I wouldn't have put right in the title this is a dev question. If it hurts you so much, just hit that ignore button and stop stirring dung. I want your input no more than you want mine :)

Wasn't it in a one of these open play with devs videos a month or two back?
Think they said something about giving the player options to only buy what they want.
So instead of a full 'season', you'll only pay for individual parts, for instance if they come up with extra mining and exploration options, you can chose to only buy mining, or only exploration if that makes sense.
It's a bit vague in memory though.

My expectation is there will be another season of DLC we can purchase that will either come out alongside Beyond or maybe a bit later in the next cycle of updates. I'd be quite fine with that.

It also unfortunately would open the door to more speculation into what sorts of mechanics and systems they'd be looking into adding to the game, on par with or better than Horizons. And you know which direction that speculation is going to go...

Aha, that would be cool. I've never loaded up CQC. lol

My dear friend Stitch,

Does it really matter what the content will be? We both know you'll purchase it regardless as will many of the rest of us. Lets do some science and see if I'm right...

If you answer yes to any of the following be ready to buy what ever they sell us:

Is the content from Frontier?
Is the content for Elite?

Still not to sure? Then blame Tj for something and feel better about yourself, you'll still buy it on day 1 ;)

Well, one piece of good news is that Ed said multiple times in the stream yesterday that there would be no "pay to win" content as part of this.
Not that that really clears up what Zac was specifically referring to.

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say we won't hear more about this until after the Q1 release.
Heck, for all we know the 'extras' could be stuff like additional cmdr slots or something like that. :x

Hello dear friend!

I won't over-elaborate, because again I didn't want this to be a debate thread, but in essence I would genuinely object to content-based microtransactions; i.e. FD release a new ship, and I have to pay RL money to use it.

Expansions, where consequently everyone has roughly consistent content available to them? Hell yes; I defended FD multiple times on the highly reasonable pricing of the Horizons season pass, even if there were content concerns following them. Am not sure I'm happy to chuck several quid out every time I want to try a new ship and see if it's even reasonable to use, or access a new area, or purchase new modules.

Crikey, 45 odd posts in and the first one to actually address OP. Cheers muchly ol' pal; if this is what I am referring to and correct then that's my question answered.

OP:
Have you tried sending them Pizza yet?

No, but I should do if I can sufficiently bake and cut the pizza to look like a thargoid.

If FD wanted to give out more information, I'm sure they'd have done so at the Expo. What they shared was a roadmap for the next 15 months. If there is anything else released during that time as an expansion, it can surely only be a good thing. Personally, I like surprises.

And FD (particularly DB) have also stated their objection to pay-to-win and microtransactions that affect the game. Until and unless there is an announcement to the contrary, I would not expect this to change.

I very much doubt they will go down the ship selling route, and I really can't see it as premium content either. I don't think there is anything to worry about yet, and as as stated last night, it won't be pay to win, even though I am not sure how that is possible if you are not doing PvP.

There really is no point in speculating as we have no idea what it is. I can't believe that people are getting in a tiz about pure guess work, which also goes against anything FDev have done before.

I really don't see the problem here. To get Horizons we all had to pay. Horizons included new stuff such as various ships, planetary landings and engineers. None of which are available to those who didn't buy Horizons and much of which gIves a real in-game advantage.

It is unclear to me why the vague possibility that FDev may be changing the granularity of what is purchasable causes such angst in some. And as yet we have absolutely no idea if FDEV are even going down a more granular route.

Or to put it another way, what does it matter if you had to buy 2.x in one go, and now may have to buy 3.x in a number of segments?

as the Op has updated their 1st post with the clarification, do you want the thread closed?

Unless clarification on what P2W is defined as comes forwards (and I can always request the chance to update afterwards), that would be much appreciated.

Ok I'll close the thread, but to be honest I would be flabbergasted if Frontier ever went down the P2W route.
