Why is the new Krait so big?

Here's an image of a Cobra MkIII model vs the Krait from the video I posted:

I'm sure Adam Woods spoke about it in the latest ED vid...& definitely mentioned it was a small ship! :O

Oooh! Feline strategically placed amongst the pigeons!

Yep! Saw that too which contradicts the models but he said it was a small ship.

A Viper is still somewhat bigger then a sidewinder.

Yes its is. But I'd see the Krait as a bit bigger then a Sidey too and faster and more meneuverable with the rist being virtually identical. It also looks nice ( I like the cheese wedge design - hence the Viper > the Eagle for me ). If you go by a bang for the buck formula all the militarys should primaraly use Sideys..

Possibly. There are already the Eagle, Vipers, and Vulture in the segment of small ships for several combat roles. From the sound of it, the Krait may end up as an affordable medium combat ship that you can load for bear.

We could definitely use another ship in that category, especially if it has an SLF bay like it looks to.

It looks nice. But, going from the cockpit size, it also looks to be much bigger than the original Krait. The Krait was one of the smallest ships in the original game. Often, when encountered in game, it was a ship run by pirates and usually there'd be a few of them working together.

From 'The Dark Wheel'....

"He also saw a single Krait, the so-called StarStriker, a small, one-man ship much favoured by pathfinders and mercenaries."

and

"Alex manoeuvred his tiny craft above the arrow shape of the Cobra, and touched it gently onto the heat-blistered hull. He looked around guiltily. Touching monuments wasn't permitted and the cemetery was patrolled by Kraits, small and deadly security craft, with instructions to blast away any man, woman or child seen tampering with a mausoleum . . . "

Why make it so big? Is this because we've already got a small, fast fighter in the Eagle?
The Elite manual begs to differ a bit. But it does contradict itself slightly too...

IF there is a fighter hangar because if is true and Adam is right I doubt it will have a fighter hangar...

Define small? Judging by the scale shot of it next to the Cobra III it looks like it's about twice the length and the same width as the Cobra III, that looks to me like it should still be able to fit on a small pad (I think It's the height of the type 6 that makes it require a medium pad, not the length).

That hatch on the bottom looks far too big given the relative scale with the Cobra III to be anything other than a fighter bay.

A ship with a SLF, more cargo than a Viper III and more maneuverable than a Keelback and I'm all in... Sounds like a great mission runner to me!

Fingers crossed with regard to the jump-range, eh? ;)

Must admit, I've often thought I'd like a Vulture with a bit more space, just so I can look intimidating while I'm hauling stuff.
I would rather the Keelback fulfilled that role though.

I guess the Krait will probably do that job but, then again, I suspect the status quo of Sidey>Cobra>Asp>Python>Anaconda will remain in place regardless.

And, of course, in the current situation, where you can earn yourself a Python or an Anaconda in a couple of days, people are whizzing past the intermediate ships so fast I doubt they even stop to think about them.

I'm all for small ships but FDev really, really, need to create systems (or even entire faction territories) which flat-out ban private ownership of big/fighty ships to create some incentive for people to buy and use smaller ships.

I mean, when the Krait arrives I'll certainly buy one, A-rate it and engineer it... and then I'll go straight back to using whatever is the top-tier ship for the job.

And, let's face it, the Krait is going to have a dreadful jump-range. :p

I hope its the scale that's been posted here taking into account the size of the cockpit, which tells me its around the size of a Python or maybe a little larger (definitely wider) with two crew members. I also hope it has an SLF hanger. I think what they've leaked looks marvelous. Right now, its the no. 1 proposed ship I want the most.
