Hey, Frontier, if you have a minute*, can you add in some nebula graphics for the known nebulae out there?

*As it were.

Just wondering... It would be nice to come across a bit more variety based on astronomical images. In particular, these would be nice...

Monkey Head Nebula

Witch Head Nebula

NGC 7538 Nebula

And NGC 281 Nebula which I'm on my way to next.

Please... They seem rather samey.

By the way, thanks for making the Pleiades blue, even though it's most likely just a bit of interstellar dust between here and there and not an actual nebula.

Thanks.

Yes, agreed. Not sure whether each one has to be hand-crafted, and they've done a lot of copy & paste, or if they are all procedurally generated. But either way, a bit more variety would fab.

Like, I'm a bit sad they've gone to the effort of hand-crafting the Lemon Slice Nebula, and there's no way to reach it. :(

I take all these screenshots in-line with Sol and vertically perpendicular with the galactic plane, so the nebulae often look a bit different from this angle, but viewed from the galactic map from diffident angles, they look very similar, if not the same.

If we can't reach it, we can't reach it, but with a name like that, I guess they probably didn't have much choice in the matter to hand craft it accordingly. It looks like a planetary nebula to me that's yellow colored, at least viewed from the galactic map. Ironically, the yellow was purportedly from a false color image from the Hubble Space Telescope.

Yep. I think most nebulae are based on false colour images, but they sure are pretty. I'm willing to suspend disbelief in this case. ;)

As for the Lemon Slice nebula being a recoloured planetary nebula - I think it's unique:

Either way, if Frontier were to simply expand the current nebulae models with a greater variety of colour (i.e. recoloured versions of the same nebula model), that would be better than what we have now. If they combined this with the upcoming improvements to planet surfaces, lighting system, and exploration tools, then I would have a good reason to head out on a new exploration trip.

Nebulae are quite disappointing in my opinion. They're mostly shapeless puffs without detail or resolution, nothing like the stunning pictures found on google:

While I know these are false colour images, so are the representations of the nebulae we see in game...

Some in game nebulae are pretty good:

But yea - more detail would be nice. I suspect it is done for performance reasons, so I hope they improve over time as FDev increase their minimum system requirements.

Ferrets of Creation. Hmm, alright. [hehe]

I haven't visited the Eagle Nebula yet in the game, but it'll be interesting to see how it looks.

Yeah, it very well might be. I was just somewhat surprised they'd bother to hand craft a planetary nebula we can't reach over some of the other nebula, I mean, other than it being the Lemon Slice Nebula, if that makes any sense. I didn't remember that it was a planetary nebula offhand.

Personally, I'd tend to prefer real visible light coloring, brought up to visible light levels, where possible.

It seems kind of strange that we can just see Andromeda's core while also seeing these nebulae in-game.

But anyway, this is a bit of a tangent. Mostly I just wanted Frontier to maybe have a revisit to the nebulae I mentioned and update their graphics to be more unique and/or fitting. I'm singling them out in particular since they all look the same, or very similar in the game.

I'm not asking for a total visual overhaul here, though I suppose if they're up for it, I wouldn't complain. ;)

...

For some comparisons with the in-game images I posted earlier and perhaps some inspiration, here are some images for these Nebulae I mentioned from Wikipedia.

Some nebula should get updated with more details.

The photos of telescopes aren't really what it looks like IRL due to added effects, long exposure, filters etc.

+1 to nebula variety from me. I too have tweaked the graphics .ini file but they are still lacking and the inability to tweak the graphics for them in game when the ability is clearly there is frustrating.

Boy have I wanted them to redo the nebulae !

It would be a very good motivation for me to get finally exploring the galaxy !

I believe that the reason the horse head nebula is out of bounds might be because they are working on it.

And Thargoids of course !

BTW you forgot to mention the most amazing nebula of them all !

Every time someone is moaning about adding game mechanics to exploration to make it more interesting, I say bovine biowaste. I don't explore to play silly scanning games, I explore to see stuff.

Give me nebulae like these, more stellar phenomena, better airless planets( confirmed...) and maybe atmospherics and I'm set. Not saying what we have isn't pretty, but more variety plz.

Yeah, I would agree that more variety out in deep space could do wonders to make exploration more fun. I'd love to see better nebulas and more stellar phenomina to find. I'm really hoping the Q1 2018 planet surface update brings a huge variety to planets, currently they are all FAARRRRRR to similar to other worlds of the same type.

Yes, and most of what you see in the game isn't what it'd look like in real life either. Assuming that's an intentional game design choice for aesthetics and general appeal, enhancing them further for more detail and variety where fitting would be much appreciated, at least by me in particular. Nebula hunting/visiting is one of my preferred pastimes in the game, especially when I'm out exploring and looking for unique or otherwise interesting systems in the game, such as they are, while on route.

they are not only false colours but also greatly overexposed. Even if you are closer or actually inside a nebula you barely notice it even exists.
