Bind Your Chat, Folks

Hey,

Now that there's a text/voice-chat in-game, go ahead and bind the key-command to bring up the menu, everybody!

I've been sending a text-greeting to almost every player I come across, and haven't gotten a single response. :( I'm kind of assuming that people are seeing the message and being like "Whoa, someone's talking to me! What do I do? What do I press? Where do I type?". Either that, or they're assuming I'm a pirate & skittering off.

For me, the key wasn't bound by default. I can't remember what it was called in the options, but it was pretty obvious. I bound it to 'K' for Tal(k), personally. It brings up a little menu next to the Comms-panel, and it's pretty intuitive: at least for the basic couple of functions that I've tried.

Come on, folks, let's hear some chatter out there.

I also contacted pretty much everyone i saw around just to test it out but havent gotten a single response back. I dont even know if its working correct :S

The default key is Enter I think. Press it and a blue box appears top left and you can send text to your target. If people don't have you targeted that could be why you're not getting any replies.

Also - keybind 2 (default) opens the comms panel at the top of the screen where you can see ships in your area and friends. Anyone know how to send a message to a friend ?

i chatted already and it works.

the biggest problem: when playing my keyboard is behind my hotas making it difficult to type.

i would love to have some predefined taunts which i could select via my hotas.

I've been contacted by at least 6 players yesterday - Funny thing is that I KNOW how to respond, but they keep contacting me just as I'm charging up Frame Shift Drive or a second before disengaging it.

Basically I disappear from being able to respond. :D

Yeah Jake I don't think your being ignored. It's just a case of players are not sure what to do when they see your greeting.

So many new features in place now and getting to grips with it all is a little overwhelming. I must admit I have not looked into the chat function myself but will make the effort on my next log in.

Hi Jake. I've had a few messages from people but sometimes I'm so busy flying my ship that I only notice the message when I've hyperspaced out of the system... It would be nice if there was a little "incoming message" pop-up, or a beep, to grab peoples attention.

Maybe I'm just too slow to notice :p

It needs to be more noticable, Sometimes The NPC police say "you can go now" and I don't see it until I OPEN the chat window.

One solution would be to setup Voice attack to send the necessary keys to send a text message.

Voicechat doesn't always work. I couldn't get it to work with Cmdr. Kidra, but I had another commander tell me that he could hear me.

Definitely still some work to be done by FD there.

Talking's great.. just not so easy when you rely on the keyboard for thrust controls and negotiating the Jump.

Can't wait for my Thrustmaster to arrive
