Why is the new Krait so big?

Wait, some people think thats a Fighter bay on hte Krait? C'mon, thats for the SRV, having a fighter bay but no srv capability would be weird.

Thats probably what makes some cmdrs a bit confused about the size, thinking thats a fighter bay puts everything out of wack. Its the small one from this picutre, not the big one, use this to judge the Kraits size better:

Going by this image on Elite Dangerous Blog, the hatches on the Krait line up perfectly in size with the hatches on the Keelback, when you use FD's Cobra III comparison as the scale (wherein the Krait the same width and approximately 2x longer):

The big hatch is the fighter bay, there. I just spent a while flying an SLF from a keelback. There is no "srv hatch". The srv comes out of the cargo hatch. Also, the srv is way smaller than an slf. How else do you think you can fit one in a sidewinder?
Wait... wait... now I am confused, what have you done ^^

If they get the height below 14m, it may just squeeze into a small hangar.

Not sure it is possible with the SLF. The SLF bay is virtually the same height as the the keelback and that is 15m. So it will be touch and go whether it can fit on a small pad. My guess it will be a medium sized ship.

I think the long range fighting ship for exploration purposes or the short range with extra large hard points, would fit the new Krait.

With greatly improved FSD ranges, the Krait will be a very common ship among commanders in the deep black.

I would welcome several sub classes of the Krait.

Krait Explorer
Krait Destroyer
Krait Speeder
Krait Support
Krait Interceptor
etc

Probably because a Sidey with class 3 engines looks ridiculous.

Check out the size of the engines. That's why it's the size it is. I guess class 5 thruster mounts and a spaceframe a little bigger than a Cobra.

Maybe it got a fighters bay to accommodate the new SRVs which can't fit through the cargo hatch.

trollface :p

It is large so that the commanders who pleaded for its inclusion have enough storage space for all the thank you notes, pizza boxes and other gifts that they will be sending to the Devs.

( Someone will likely say that the Dev's meeting room can be found in game at Hutton Orbital, on the other side of the station from Cubicle 3 ;-) )

IF its in scale I am pretty sure its not a small ship (I#d be longer and wider then an asp) - and then its indeed a fighter bay. Also how would height influence pad size - its virtually the only of the three dimensions which has no max.

The landing pads retract into docking bays, so it's not just length and width that matter.

Refer to the T-7.
Easily fits on a Medium Pad, except for a 0.5m height excess.
Terrible design decision - letting it fit on a Medium would give it a clear trading niche.

I actually realized that now but thanks anyway _ only took me 3 years...
