Horizons Pick up Unique Escape POD Mission

Ok,
Had I known it was something I had to get from a planetary surface, I would never have taken it since I don't have an SRV.

But, Since I was given it even though I don't have one, it would seem that there should be some way to collect them without an SRV.

HOW..???

I found them, deployed the scoop, lined up on them and spent some time scraping around on the planet's surface but never managed to collect anything.

Ended up dead when some punk attacked me.

Used my insurance and the mission is still active???

Reward is only going to be 42,000 CR..

Far more work than I really want to do for the CR.

Still want to know if/how to collect stuff from a planet without an SVR..

You can't!
FDev made sure of that!

edit 20th. I remember now, they don't tell you whether it is surface or space. I got one and it was surface, so I ditched the mission.

Planetary salvage missions require an SRV. It very likely even says that as part of the mission description... :)

No way to do it without, so either get yourself one or abandon the mission.

This was one of those "INCOMING MISSION CRITICAL" messages. There was NOTHING in the description about needing an SRV..

The salvage missions in the MISSION board still show "REQUIREMENTS NOT MET".

Well, you could bug report it if you feel it's that confusing, but if it was to salvage something from a planet, and you are aware that planetary salvage missions require an SRV from previous experience, then it seems it should be self explanatory.

As I said though, if the mission text is not clear, or it wasn't obvious that it would be from a planet, then bug report it. :) These inbox delivered missions (which are optional by the way) are new with 2.4, so the feedback could be useful.

I have been getting "salvage missions" almost from the beginning. The "Unique Escape POD" completely new. I expected it to be someplace in space.
It came down like this:
INCOMING MISSION CRITICAL MESSAGE
Meet Commander Reynolds in system XXXXXXX for coordinates.
Got to system XXXXXXX and Reynolds updated the info in the Nav Transactions panel and system Map.
That was when I first found out it was planetary.

Don't know if it is a bug or not.. Unfortunately I did NOT get video of the whole thing.

I'll have to try it again sometime buy I was definitely able to scoop off a planet in my ship. Even completed some salvage missions that way.

I'd bug report it then. Not exactly a bug, but mission descriptions need to be reliable. The way the game is currently, you shouldn't be able to take a mission you can't complete.

Before I posted this thread, I read a lot of other stuff, mostly from 2015 and apparently it used to be possible. Some players didn't even bother to actually get the escape pods. They were able to turn in any old occupied escape pod and claim the rewards.

But this one said specifically that the pods were "UNIQUE" and that the mission couldn't be completed without them.

The best I could do is slid them around on the surface even with perfect alignment.

I got sucked in by one of those missions once, didn't say anything bout needing an SRV, but when I arrived on location, that's what it turned out to be, fortunately I had a collector limpet and a few limpets left, was only cargo, not pods, but I skimmed down to the surface and had to orient the ship in such a way so the limpets wouldn't die after picking up the cargo, killed a couple before I figured out how to orient the ship so that they would retrieve the cargo from the surface and bring it back to the ship. Didn't think it would work but managed to get what I needed.

Just for anyone else finding this thread in the future, I was able to scoop a pod from a planet surface today. Just deploy scoop and fly slow and low, line up the cargo in the scanner like you would in space.
