LEP statement from a first wave purchaser

Erm...ok.

Did FD say anything about lifetime pass holders missing out on content or something or do people jump to conclusions a little too much under the influence of Dea Motrona Experience Jelly lately?

I think its understandable that people are a bit concerned. This is something FD could simply clarify but have chosen not to, but they've been talking about changes to the 'season' model for months, and as I recall saying all would become clear at Expo 17, but guess what.......

So on a You-Tube video that is made by an independent content creator, the independent content creator used a phrasing from which you inferred that there is a move to eliminate LEPs to monetize the game more, and ...... that .... is evidence of anything, at all?
On the internet this passes as "irrefutable evidence".

If you keep in mind that this ist the quote that started all the panic, it's almost funny:
In addition to all the content talked about at Frontier Expo, we also have some pretty cool things in the works which will be available to purchase. We're not ready to talk about them just yet so we can't give you any details but rest assured that the lifetime expansion pass owners will be looked after and will be getting their hands on premium content as part of their lifetime expansion pass before the end of 2018 and the Beyond series of updates.

I hope that helps,

Zac

Frontier have already released a road map for 2018...
I wouldn't call that a roadmap .. more like .. a vague outline ..

Code:
Start of Year Stuff Other Stuff More Stuff End of Year Stuff
| ....................................... | ..................... | ..................................... |

Looks like it has a beginning and end to me, much like a road.... it starts here, and goes to there...

I guess I was expecting to see more detail.

Examples:
MediaHandler.ashx
roadmap_with_releases_and_features.png
https://trello.com/b/KbugnSRJ/subnautica-roadmap

Compare the above against what Frontier showed at the Expo.
It's just a line that basically says: "stuff is coming." This is not a roadmap, this is a vague release schedule.

Granted it doesn't have to be as detailed as some of the examples, but something more than "we're releasing stuff" would have been appreciated.
Not everyone is in favour of Frontier's predilection for mystery. :)

It's just a line that tells us stuff is coming .. there is nothing informative about this because it's basically "development as normal."
In my experience, this is not a roadmap.

They did provide an outline in the talk as what the theme of each drop will be (1st - mining overall and the debeigification, 2nd & 3rd - content only, 4th - Exploration update) plus they have subsequently told us that there is additional premium content scheduled as well. Frontier always play their cards close to their chests, so this is par for the course. You can either can either deal with it or get wound up by it, either way Frontier are not changing their ways.

I'm aware. I'm simply saying more detail would have been nice.

And in the beginning that was pretty cool, but as someone who is part of several alpha/beta releases, my preference is transparency.
Keep the narrative and narrative-related content a secret, but normal content should -imho- be announced months before release so the community can then discuss it amongst themselves and Frontier can take those discussions and analyse them; perhaps (as examples) finding out that something they put in is a bad idea, or they read something that's a good idea and move to implement it before release.

You can either can either deal with it or get wound up by it, either way Frontier are not changing their ways.
I don't get wound up over small things.

A Valid question since frontier have changed how the game development will proceed. the only info frontier has given is in the below quote from Zac in another thread.

Frontier have already released a road map for 2018 and your current LEP obviously includes what's coming in 2018.
Looking into what zak says it sounds like that those who only purchased Horizons will have to purchase premium content, im guessing that squadron mobile bases will be among the first premium content and access to thargoid space being another possible area where players will have to purchase access, I wouldn't be surprised if they add purchases for cmdr save slots. im guessing that premium content wont go down the route of pay to win as that would kill the games userbase.

the worrying thing is that Zac only mentions the Beyond series updates which we know is basically the 2018 road map, what happens after that is anyone's guess.
Would it make you feel better if FD came out with an anouncement every year that said, "Rest assured there will be premium content to buy next year. That will of course be free to LEP owners."

Are you honestly worried that FD as a business will turn to socialism and thus devalue the LEP? Serious question.

Indeed, I don't see why people are spazzing out. If frontier said that Beyond was the last series of updates, they'd have a point. As it is, I still wish I had the opportunity to get the LEP for my Xbox account. I'm willing to bet that it'll end up being a worthwhile investment for those who have it.

I wasn't an alpha backer, but I did have premium beta access. However in the new scheme of things, neither alpha or premium beta exists as everything gets dropped in at beta stage - fairer for everyone potentially bar those at higher backer levels, however personally that is not an issue: I backed to get the game and if my £150 pledge only got me the core ED game and none of the expansions via the LEP, I would still be buying them.

The challenge with Frontier saying "hey folks, we're working on this and it will run like that" is that everyone and their dog will chip in with their own thoughts as there are a lot of armchair designers. I can understand Frontier not wanting the distraction - and to be honest, it's a lot better than the old Alt.Fan.Elite days where David Braben posted that he did not want any suggestions and would ignore any threads with them as they have their own ideas and did not want to get accused of plagiarism. Now we have a suggestions forum.

I don't get wound up over small things.

That's good to hear :)

Well put. I was disappointed that the Content of the FX17 presentations did not include answers to some of my questions, I looked into it further to see if I had missed anything & eventually asked Zac for clarification, which he kindly provided.

I am hopeful that more info will be released before the end of the year.
