Multi Crew : No Ships Available

So I was feeling lonely out in the black and realised that I haven't actually tried Multi Crew nor seen any of this Thargoid stuff. So I thought I'd givie it a bash. However all i get is "No Ships Available". I am doing something wrong?

As you may guess due to the lack of players actually partaking in multicrew, you're not really missing much. When you join a ship you can either sit there and do nothing, fly a ship launched fighter if they have one or be a gunner in some odd arcade style shootery action. It's a real shame, as the potential for MC to really add some valuable gaming experience is there, but for whatever reason FDev didn't go there.

multicrew - the only valid thing in multicrew to do is: combat.
trading and mining is better be done in a wing, while

for multicrew combat you need either
1. Turrets or Missile launchers (low dps or ammo restricted weapons)
2. SLF bay

then
the combat rewards for the crew are limited to bounty income.
crew wont get any points for powerplay or contribute to comunitgoals or missions in general.

ontop of these there are the comon wing networking issue that are even bigger issues with multicrew.
eg. my friend wont last more then two hyperjumps as a gunner until he's stuck at a loading screen

last but not least,
there are the toxic elements called griefers. they come on board of your ship just to deplete your ammo or aggro random clean npcs.
or they just scout out where you are to call in their friends to present you a rebuy screen. (ofc with disbanding crew beforehand, or your rebuy would be lowered!)

did i mention that you need to be in open or in a group to even start multicrew? the instancing server is not set up dynamic enough to allow ad-hoc grouping or switching instance,
despite crew members beeing pushed back to the login screen at the end of a session anyway?

Makes me wonder what the DEVs think about this.

And the reward for it is bad too..

It's really only ok to play with people you are already friends with, I do it often with one of my in-game friends.
I fly one of his fighters and it can be a laugh, when it loads properly (often on the third or fourth go) and you don't try and do too many jumps with them (best to let them get were they're going and then join them).

That nobody is using it is probably not true, but its mostly likley something people use with friends and not with strangers. I honestly wouldn't want a stranger in my ship myself ^^

I only just learned this last night: when you are in the multicrew menu looking for ships to join, you'll notice that some of the activities have a + sign next to them. I *think* this is an indicator that there is another ship out there looking for a crewman for this activity . So if you're having trouble finding a ship to crew with, look for the + signs and try joining those first.

Incidentally most multicrew crew sessions are going to be passive spectating as a passenger in the 2nd chair.

Very wise. Remember kids... STRANGER DANGER!

But I have no friends :(

There's not much point in trying multi-crew for Thargoid stuff. Right now the fighters do zero damage against them, or their swarm. You'll have to wait for the CG that changes that. All you can do is distract them, and you'll die quickly. In under a minute. And because of the way the Gunner works, it actually makes it more difficult to attack Thargoids as opposed to just not having a Gunner. We do have turrets for the AX weapons however because the Gunner can't subtarget your reticle won't show you where to aim and will constantly try to auto-snap you away from the heart and onto the center of the ship. You'll constantly be fighting the game just to hit the thing. It's pretty useless. We tried it for the better part of a day and just gave up. Was more effective to just solo the things.

If i am online and not doing things when i need my SRV i always enable looking for crew in the "mentor a player" category.
There is a hot demand for this and i usually don´t have to wait longer than a couple of minutes for someone to join,
and i have saved plenty of Cmdr's that was about to quit the game by doing this.

I wish more veteran Cmdr's would do this.

SRV is a typo and should be SLF, right?

I used MC almost 100% of my time with my 2nd account. Just having another body in a seat makes it more acceptable.

But I'd never open any of my ships to player I do not know. Open is full of toxic kids that'll take great joy in getting you wanted and then bailing. Or coming on board and then tell their PvP cheaters to come kill you in your Vette/Cutter

All in All, way better with my 2nd account. I trust her implicitly :D
