Multi Crew : No Ships Available

Open is full of toxic kids that'll take great joy in getting you wanted and then bailing. Or coming on board and then tell their PvP cheaters to come kill you in your Vette/Cutter

All in All, way better with my 2nd account. I trust her implicitly :D

I have never experienced this and i have probably done over 100 hours of multicrew with random people by now.
That open is just full of toxic kids i think is a myth that has spread because it is a good recruitment pitch for Mobius and other private groups, and a straw man argument used by those who wanted offline mode.

While I thought that the multicrew might be a interesting idea, I quickly realized it would be a bit like a motorcycle. Do you want to be the driver, or riding "bit*h" ? Given the option, I think most (all?) want to be in control of the ship and not the "tag along". So for me, IMO, its usage is flawed at a fundamental, humanistic level.

Just my opinion for what its worth.

If i am online and not doing things when i need my SRV i always enable looking for crew in the "mentor a player" category.
There is a hot demand for this and i usually don´t have to wait longer than a couple of minutes for someone to join,
and i have saved plenty of Cmdr's that was about to quit the game by doing this.

I wish more veteran Cmdr's would do this.

But what is the cr/hr? :p

But I'd never open any of my ships to player I do not know. Open is full of toxic kids that'll take great joy in getting you wanted and then bailing. Or coming on board and then tell their PvP cheaters to come kill you in your Vette/Cutter
:D

Oh no! I've heared scary stories like that too! Always from people who dont actually try it.

Weird how that works.

Sorry..that just doesn't sound fun to me.

Glad someone is doing it though.

I think the only time I plan on using multicrew is when I go exploring, and a friend wants to take a look at whatever nebula or planet I am currently occupying, as he isn't a fan of exploration. I might gift a copy of elite to a friend that wants to play the game around the holidays, and build a turret cobra to show off some of the game while letting him shoot a few ships.

I don't intend to let random people crew my ships, as I would rather not lose a ship because they wanted a giggle at my expense.

I`m trying to remember to keep my exploration seats open when I`m out there but... nobody is joining lately. Cant find any ships as well.

Well I hope they don't ditch MC.
I plan to go on the distant world expedition 2 with an anaconda and plenty of fighters ready to be launched at cool places :)

I used MC almost 100% of my time with my 2nd account. Just having another body in a seat makes it more acceptable.

But I'd never open any of my ships to player I do not know. Open is full of toxic kids that'll take great joy in getting you wanted and then bailing. Or coming on board and then tell their PvP cheaters to come kill you in your Vette/Cutter

I use MC to fill the seat with my second account also(why we can't have our hired crew occupying the seats in beyond me), I don't know about the toxic thing, I just don't invite people because they'd be bored witless at my play style, and as already mentioned(and experienced often by my second account), it's as buggy as hell, especially with disconnects.

Another "Minimum Viable Product" crippled in beta to appease a loud minority of forum goers and abandoned the minute it went live.

The FD even said that they will drop focus on MC if player wont use it much. Yeah it make sense but why even telling u that? If they had faith in the way they implemented it they would never said something like this. Its just sad, it could a a great feature for coop crowd.

Indeed. The quality of MC and the whole “if you use it we’ll develop it” thing seemed like a total mis-step on FD’s part.

It's a catch 22 there, they can't devote time to a feature that isn't used, unless it happens to be a small group's pet project. It was however shipped in a state that makes using it boring for everyone who isn't actively doing something in the ship. We ended up having a feature with plenty of room for potential play space, but shipped in such a way that you couldn't really call it a complete feature, at which point it was dropped by the players. The expectation is that we use it more if we want a better implementation, but outside of letting the second seat in your Asp Exlporer be someone else's space screensaver, I don't see that happening.

I would love it if the second seat got some neat functionality besides giving a pip and controlling turreted weapons. I would love it if the second seat in my Asp gave my co-pilot a telescope of sorts, allowing them to highlight areas of interest while in system and making navigation waypoints based on those points of interest. Maybe a trade focused co-pilot can get data from in system stations about commodity pricing and availability.

The current implementation of multicrew is consequence of the season model: they couldn't do it right with the current state of the game, but they had to deliver something because they already sold it with the season.

That's one of the reasons i hope they go for a full featured expansion for the next not-a-season.

I totally agree and I hope we see some improvements down the line. Particularly npc crew!

So why did FDev add in the additions so the commander could set what a MC add-in player could do I wonder. If there was no reason? For a laugh? They'd nothing else to do? It sounded like fun?

And yes I did try it.
"Can I fly your ship?"..
Me: "no"
them: "so whats the point"
Me: "Well you can fire the turrets, or fly the SLF"
Them: "whats an SLF?"
Me: "I gotta go, wash my hair or something"

MC is great for my other accounts, they fill the seats and make the ships feel better.

NPC Crew would be better, they are more ....hme... manageable.

I don't mind MC. I was actually doing it quite a bit for a while, while working on my Elite rank (60%). I was scared away by reports of a game breaking bug in 2.4, but maybe it's fixed and I'll try it again soon.
