Which is the ship you can't keep your hands off?

I've bought and engineered pretty much every ship that I have every interest in flying but the one I always wind up going back to is the AspX. There's nothing particularly special about it. I don't like the way it looks or sounds and it isn't great in a fight. It isn't even particularly fun to fly. It's almost always the best tool for the job, however. I've had it for years and it's made more money/collected more materials for me than any other ship. There have been many times when I've been halfway through loading out my python or anaconda, only to sigh and jump back into the Asp because it's already everything that I need and it can do what it does in less jumps than anything else.

My most flown ships these days are (with descending priority):

- ANACONDA: as Passenger-Liner with extended Cargo Space for the joy of making money (5-13 MCr per run). Flying her I don't enjoy as much as the other ships though.*

- FER DE LANCE: For the joy of killing things good!

- ASPEx: For the joy of getting anywhere I want in an instance.

(Sometimes even the Cobra Mk.III is taken out for a flight, just for the joy of good 'ol times sake and her reals space speed, or for high risk smuggling.)

I could never part with my

- IClipper

though. If I had to choose one ship to keep, and one ship only, it would be her. Just because of the enforced grind (yes, that time I call it "grind", but only that time) towards her and the gracefull style of flying she's capable of. And class. She's sooo posh!

[heart]

*In fact, once the Anaconda is fully A-Graded, she'd be mothballed, and the IClipper returned to be the Prime Choice of my ships.

That clipper! Lovely ship. I’ve had one since way back when Aisling briefly lowered the rank wall. At the time I couldn’t even afford to a rate it so it stayed docked for ages and it was an impulse buy as I just wanted the courier. To this day I still don’t have the rank so my Clipper is extra special to me. Has been a hauler, a miner, a combat ship. Right now it’s got three frags and a feedback rail with size seven biweaves and a whole lot of hull, making it something of an assassin.

Dolphin, DBS and Adder.

Dolphin for exploring

Adder for scavenging materials/data and for skimmer/scanner missions.

DBS for combat. I have a FAS as well, but the DBS is more fun and keeps me on my toes in a Haz Res

Hmm. Great OP!

I sort of agree. I have been grinding towards the big ships - have a Cutter & Anaconda.

My view?

They are functional, they are the best at quick progression within the game... But are they fun or worth it? No!!

I have much more fun in a Sidewinder, and Eagle, a Dolphin, a Cobra Mk III or even an Orca or Type 9!!!

There is no fun in the Anaconda or Cutter (and I suspect the Corvette). No NPC is a challenge, credits are too easy... dull, dull, dull. Invented for those who think the game is only about the accumulation of credits... Midases them all...

I have a lot of ships I like but try to keep my fleet to minimal numbers. If I was more disciplined I would just have a career with one ship but, as stated, I like do different things in ED with different ships.

My peaceful (Lakon guy) career:
Big ships: T9 and TradaConda. If I could have only one ship it would be one of these. T9 is my favorite ship (Conda a close second) but even I must admit the Conda is probably the more practical of the two so I have both. Constant fight for attention between them! And the title of "My favorite ship."

"Medium" ship: T7 I use for mining. Would do missions and trade with it too but it's a "Large" ship. Any day on the medium pads for the T7 FDev!

"Small" ships: T6 and AspX.

Have another career with a mix of ships I use for combat stuff but, perhaps strangely(?), I find combat kind of dull and use this one only when I have too. Anyone else find combat boring? Think ED is my only game where I prefer a "peaceful path" and find it more fun to avoid trouble. Maybe a sign of old age perhaps?

Depends for what role.

For exploration, sure my anaconda has the longer jumprange in the game if modded, but my asplorer turns sooooo fast, even in supercruise, I much much much rather use that for exploration because of how smooth it and fast it flies around while having excellent jumprange and two SRV's!

Anaconda is great for almost anything else though.
Stacked a whole bunch of trade missions earlier that were for the same system, while also picking up a salvaging missions.
No enemies showed up, but when they do (and it's just small ships), my anaconda can easily shred all 3 of them no problem. ^^

But for going into a res or cz I'll use my FAS because that one is completely combat engineered, not a jack of all trades like the anaconda, and it also has burst lasers so don't even need to fly back for ammo, can stay as long as my hull can hold!

Exploration: Cobra Mk III

Trading: Cobra Mk III

Mining: Cobra Mk III

Combat: Cobra Mk III

Smuggling: Cobra Mk III

Piracy: Cobra Mk III

Flying around aimlessly: Haul... Nah', just kidding. Cobra Mk III.

All roles achieved by one hull and lots of module storage.

The big ships are nice but nothing is more fun a fast military ship.

FAS and Vulture are 2 ships that I always default to when I want a cheap, tanky ship for conflict zones.

FDL tends to be my favorite for assassination missions. It feels like a glass cannon when it's under heavy fire from multiple targets, but the speed is too fun.

DBX: Exploration tends to vary a lot depending on how much cargo, equipment or crew you want to bring, but nothing beats a DBX when it comes to solo exploration. DBX has some combat capabilities and can go fast enough to run away, but the agility is death. It runs cold so you can go nuts with PA's and Rails or just highwake from inside a sun if you want to.

Adder: Shuttle ship for cheap transportation. I started with an adder so it's my goto "cheapest ship that's not total crap".

Everybody says get a 'conda but it's really just a glorified trade ship. It has one of the highest DPS of any ship in the game but it's so slow the damage output is only good for protecting cargo.
The Python is similar in that the DPS is meant for protecting cargo, but from what I've seen it has enough speed to be more effective in combat. It also has the advantage of landing on medium pads.

Seriously though, nothing beats a large ship when it comes to trading and mining. If you want a boring way to make decent credits, get a large ship.

Have you tried the CMkIII? I heard it's a pretty good ship.

2 years ago I never thought I'd be saying "Python"...

Python is my all-time favorite ship. I’m always looking for a reason to fly it. I spend most of my time in the Cutter or the AspX, both of which I love to fly, but only the Python do I fly because I love it.

Diamondback Explorer for exploring, personal sight-seeing, and getting around the bubble.

Orca for passenger missions (which includes tourist-style sight-seeing).

Keelback with SLF for various delivery and surface scan missions, as well as CG RES hunting.

Vulture for pirate assassination missions and bounty hunting.

Viper III when I BH with a player wing or just want to have fun.

The Orca is the biggest ship I own. I can afford a Conda, but not if I want to A-rate it and afford the rebuy. Someday I might get one for cargo hauling.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

OH man.... it would be so cool if that rank wall lowering event would re-occur. (Hint hint, FD). :)

I do pine for the Cutter, but I also really like the smaller ships. I've flown a Conda a lot but nowadays I just putz around in my iCourier, Asp X and Python.

Until I get the 300 million more I need to finish outfitting my Conda I just can't keep mine off the fdl other than its vertical thrust there's nothing to complain about and it looks crazy shmexy

Currently in love with the FDS. It does everything the Python does but about 20% worse. So after engineering it's still enough for almost every activity in game. Also, it looks more sexy and has an absolutely crazy flight model with G5 DD.

Also a fan of the Type 7. After the buffs it's an absolute beast for running blockades in Open..
