Cobra is life Cobra is love <3

Heat is a problem, a big problem in planetary flight. The Dolphin overheats extremely fast when using yaw while in normal space over a planet/moon anything not space.

It's been pointed out that's probably a bug, as no other ship does that. Hopefully will be fixed at some point. Plus, if we are talking combat, I've never had a dogfight on a planet or moon. If your talking skimmer missions, a) you'd switch out your weapons for dumbfire missiles, and b) why shooting the ground you generally use lateral thrust rather than yaw, to stay on target. Either way, generally isn't an issue in normal operations.

Cobra is missing:
- Bigger space for cargo/passengers.
- More utility points for sinks and counter-stuff.
- Due to the limited space, considering the priorities is a must - what to buy/install and when to use depends on the playstyle and situations. Though I made a build to suit most of my needs.

There's always a Cobra IV ... engineered :x

I assume it's a bug and I hope it will get fixed. It has been in the game since the introduction of the Dolphin…

No, I'm talking taking off and landing. Flying around over the surface of the moon/planet to enjoy the view. Happened quite often when I used the Dolphin for VIP missions.

Sure it can be avoided, but it's a problem of the Dolphin.

Yeah well, apologies for mistaking Dolphin with Beluga, I was thinking to buy them one day, for passenger-only ship. Sort of airliner thing. But anyhow Dolphin's no Cobra. It's not just "hey, this ship has better x than y". Cobra has a distinct style.
It's like you see Cobra and you think "Elite", the franchise.

I would love to stick with the cobra, but exploring is the name of the game for me.
Would I be better off in a Cobra or a Dolphin ? Or do I have no choice but to go to more expensive vessels ?

Apart from jump range and speed, take the Cobra mkIV if you can. It can fit everything you need.

It depends on what you mean with that. If you want to visit extreme-distance tourist locations, jump range is king. If not a decent range is fine, and you're better of picking a ship that is fun to fly (and can bring the stuff you want to bring). Both Cobras are fine explorers, make no mistake.

Well, thats one of the mayor upsides of the Cobra MK IV and one wich is often overlooked when comparing it to other ships of it's class(I know I've been guilty of this too). The Cobra MKIV has 8 Slots for internals while other small ships usually only get 4-6 internal slots (Dolphin beeing the exeption because it has 6 normal internals + 1 limited internal) wich indeed makes the MK IV one of the most versatile ships of it's class.

What do you consider Exploration - what do you want to do and how do you want to do it?

You can explore in a Sidewinder. Every other ship just adds options or makes things easier.
You have to decide for yourself what you want to do and what is important for you in a spaceship used for exploration.

Just use the ship that is the most fun to fly for you. If you are going on a long exploration ship you certainly don't want to sit in a ship you don't like to be sitting in.

Yup, it does require engineering to really be enjoyed properly but it's the Tiny Asp of the game.

26 points of optional internals and the ability to carry up to 88 tonnes of cargo is nothing to sneeze at.

It also carry more cargo than the Dolphin (84 cargo) but less than the Keelback (96 cargo).

I find it funny that it has the largest cargo hold of the small ships.

I love Cobra too. So I own two of them :D
