Which is the ship you can't keep your hands off?

I'll mention it here just see people's reactions, but I keep looking at the beluga and wanting one. It's so big and bold and feels like a flagship vessel.....that has no use. Seriously can't think of any use for it, not one, that another ship with do better.

Sadly personally I wouldn't buy a ship if I had no use for it, but I still really want one. Wonder if anyone's been brave enough to actually buy one.

I just love to get into the T9, it's big, slow, turning rate like a pregnant whale, but I love it.

Maybe because I imagine how the rest of the ship will be. Big cargo room with industrial gear, chains dangling from the ceiling, condense water dripping everywhere and cracking sounds from the haul.......

Now where is the damn cat?

You ever get the feeling someone is looking at you through the door on your right or left?
Did you notice they were there?

I fly an exploration for t9. Once you mod it for lightweight and heat management, it's actually quite nimble. The view is the absolute best, and nothing beats the bridge for the bridge. The elevator directly behind is pretty nice too. And when you you are cruising through space, you can just imagine yourself standing just outside the rear underdeck door, activating your suit ciggarette vape system, as you watch a planet grow smaller and smaller. BUT you know what is one of the coolest things on the t9, not having cool ship kits or skins to spend money on. That really makes life really simple when it comes to decision making.

In the last couple of months I have spent the majority of my time in my Corvette. If I could get another 5-7Ly jump range (currently 20Ly) I'd not bother with anything else.

i think the Beluga might be the only ship i bought but never flew. i had the bots transport it from Shinrarta to my home base, then i found the Orca did everything i needed a passenger ship to do, and it is small-ish and fast and agile - and after reading all the horror comments about Belugas getting stuck in mail slots OR being blocked by one when you're in another ship, i just sold it.

maybe one day i'll buy another but it would only be as a novelty - the Orca and Dolphin are a great pair of ships and bigger isn't always better

I was using my hauler taxi once to go to li young rui space to buy a ship cheap, and coming out of my home station, I had to move right next to the mail slot edge to avoid a beluga. A hauler, having to move out the way of something! It's the size of a shoe and you need more room to get past it!

Weirdly made me want to buy one more, to block people coming in and out myself. I must seem really childish. So just be glad I can't find a use for it ;).

I have 3 ships. All at Colonia-ish space. Asp X, Python and my Lil Blackie, the Vulture. I have owned 2 of the 3 biggies and I gotta say, meh. It's not for me. My absolute favorite of all time is my RNG'd Vulture. Fast as my Asp, more maneuverable than anything I have flown, 2 big guns for big fun, 16 cargo... oooo I love this ship. I use it as my main "Go kill this", "Go scan that thing on the planet" or "Take this info there" ship. Or my I need to blow off some steam... where's the nearest Hi Rez?

Both my Asp and Python are RNG'd up too, and mining in my Python is very fun. Yes, I said it. Fun. Using the Neuron Highway, my Asp can get 190ish jumps. I just can't quite get that over 195. But I always seem to get back into the Vulture.

I love the Cutter. It just feels like a proper, huge, space ship. It drifts like nobody's business, and requires some planning to pilot gracefully into stations. It is the only craft that feels "real" when flying it to me - all the others are too responsive.

Add to that the great capacity for cargo and passengers, good defence capabilities, and some sleek "747 on steroids" looks and you have a brilliant craft.

That said, during the last few days I have returned to my Asp Explorer, just for the cockpit view. With a VR headset the ability to see all around you is just amazing! Don't think I have made a single credit since I got the Oculus, have just been flying around stations, planetary bases, and whatever else I fancy looking at.

And today, I’m back in my trusty old Cobra Mk III. I always wondered if I’d just end up parking it and flying a Python p, once I got one. Nope, I’m out exploring and trading in a Cobra.

I like the ships agile and functional, able to adapt to a whole lot of different roles.
I owned an Anaconda, a Python, a Vulture, a Keelback, but it is always back to the Asp Explorer and the Cobra Mk. III.
I miss the Viper from time to time. Maybe i´ll buy one again, at some time in the future.

This is easy, my Python and iCourier.
They are my favorite ships in the game, nothing comes close. I really like my Cutter and Clipper, they are great, but my Python has bought me both of those (and more) and I enjoy flying it, I don't find it dull more relaxing and laid back but it still packs a bite and is a cash earner. Plus it looks awesome!
The Courier is just so much fun, is well armed, quick, handles well, is well shielded (engineered 3C bi with a couple of boosters) and jumps well as well, is a great little ship.

Exploration: Cobra Mk III

Trading: Cobra Mk III

Mining: Cobra Mk III

Combat: Cobra Mk III

Smuggling: Cobra Mk III

Piracy: Cobra Mk III

Flying around aimlessly: Haul... Nah', just kidding. Cobra Mk III.

All roles achieved by one hull and lots of module storage.

You stole my post! :D

Cobra MkIII because all the other ships are a lie!

Federal gunship is the one I can't put down. I keep trying to do other things, but it has me hooked. Controversial sure, but a heck of a lot of fun.

Absolutely love the cutter. Have been flying it since 1.5.
I do everything in it fight, trade, smuggle..basically everything except exploring.

I keep finding ways I can make use of less-than-ideal ships because they're the ships I feel like flying. I can afford some better ships now but instead I try to find ways of using:

  • Adder - first ship I 'earned'. Currently using it for first long multi-week explor-cation outside bubble. Versatile and I continue to find reasons to use it.
  • Asp Scout - this is the one that seems to get no respect but I've wanted to own & fly from the moment I installed E:D. Do I wish it was just a little better? Sure. To me it's a pretty flexible ship, still fairly reasonably priced that can do a lot of things competently. A bit more expensive but equal or slightly better than Cobra III in every(?) way except for speed. Handles very well, even without engineering it turns like a fighter but can take a lot more punishment, has better power reserves and can carry enough other stuff with enough jump range to do things other than fight. I flew the Cobra III for a while after 'upgrading' from Adder but never cared all that much for it and haven't flown the Cobra III since I upgraded it in favor of Keelback.
  • Diamondback Scout - maybe my favorite small combat ship now? At this point what I'm most likely to use for BH or CZ. I can still stomach the rebuy on this. Have tried using Viper III, Viper IV, and Diamondback Explorer for this purpose, but currently prefer the DBS.

Honorable Mentions:
  • Keelback - I haven't gone back to it yet, but I probably will soon. I want to try the fighter bay. Liked it a lot, I used it for self-defending trading, I used it for many trading missions until I bought my Type 7. Unlike the Type 7 which is IMO defenseless, in the KB I would submit to NPC pirates and rather than run, I would quickly attack and kill them. This was definitely a way of adding some entertainment to trade-based missions. The Keelback was perhaps the last ship I tried to do everything with -- since then I've tended to switch ships more frequently.
  • Dolphin - I keep this one around for its combination of good speed, carrying capacity, and jump range. Have used it for the obvious passenger missions and as a personal shuttle at times.
  • Type 7 - Have been using this for bulk hauling, mostly for CG. Will probably continue to use it for this purpose as none of the ships that can outhaul it are appealing much to me at this time.

IMO Frontier put a lot of effort into making a significant number of ships with different personalities and that can be extensively tailored through outfitting. They have decent mechanics for ship transfer as well...so rather than focusing on the small number of 'best' ships that can 'progress' me to buying a high-end ship with the least time spent in gameplay I want to smell the roses along the way, and learn my lessons on ships that may have a few warts but also can be re-bought without a lot of pain to my CR bottom line.
