I had assumed that these would be left out of the equation, seeing as they aren't production ships and otherwise everyone would probably choose the thargy.

No, I think all ships should be included. unless anyone disagrees?

Considering how easy it is to mod the game and cheat,
I think that only ships that are available from normal gameplay should be included.

I had an idea (dangerous thing to do I know)
When we are all finished with a poll on ships, how about a poll on our fave systems or trade routes?

I tried for months to "dock" with them after they ejected the escape pod in the misbelieved thought that I’d be able to steal the unpiloted ship.

Never thought of that myself, but that could be a suggestion for Elite 4. If an opponent launches their escape pod, there should be an option to either dock with and steal their ship, or perhaps, if you've a big enough one yourself, tractor beam it back somewhere to sell it on!

Fully - I reckon that some of the bigger ships (capital size) should have the hold space to take on some of the smaller ships. Tractor it and and sell it if they eject. The enemy AI should be able to recognise a hopless condition and based on how hard a5sed they are go down with their ship or surrender to you. Dialogue between you and your enemy sounds cool :D

If you're just talking FFE, then I won't vote, because I didn't play it enough to really make a decision.
Well, FFE contains all the ships from FE2 anyway, while taking the (slightly different) list of ships from Elite wouldn't make much sense, as you couldn't buy them there - the ship can look totally awesome when others fly it, but you may discover that it handles poorly, breaks down a lot and your second in command invariably pees in your morning tea while drunk when you fly it yourself.

Anyway, my favourite ship is Asp (I'm so unoriginal). Large enough to pack every bit of essential equipment, lot of shields and a big gun or to be used as small freighter (if necessary), fast and agile enough to keep pace with most much smaller craft while avoiding getting hit by all the bigger ones, plus it has very small front and side profiles. I think it must be absolutely terrible experience to sit in some tiny fighter and see that, despite all your effort, several times bigger ship behind grows larger and largwer in your rear view screen.
Of course there are several comparably good ships of this class, like Cobra Mk.III, Constrictor, Harrier and Harris, but I like the Asp the best.

I never really liked the Courier. Sure, it's spacious, reasonably fast and very stylish, but it has horrible turning speed for a ship without turrets and is too large to avoid enemy fire.

I'm not really a fan of large freighters, but I do like Boa. It's sleek, stylish, fast for it's size, has excellent turret coverage (FFE only, in FE2 it's ventral turret is broken) and spacious hull. You can fill it with all the shields, equipment, weapons and fuel you will need and still have room for cargo and passenger cabins. It's the kind of ship in which you can ferry rich fat-asses around and have them pay extra for fireworks display when pirates attack.

I know i've just put this in the Poll thread, but I realised that if you don't vote in the poll you won't read it.

I wonder if David B would tell us what his favourite ship is?

I'm sorry if this double posting.
