This happened to me a lot when the game first came out especially with the ramming, but since about 2.0.. I think... it hasn't happened. Now, I do hear them getting kinda close but no collisions.
If you do not "speed" near stations (a) the NPC cops will not collide with you and even if they do then (b) you will not get fined. Either that or "Git Gud" at piloting. I have not collided with any NPC pilots yet and I am always speeding & boosting near the stations. o7

The only time you don't get fined is when you are slightly outside the nofire zone and in combat. I have bumped the assailant and got told "Be careful commander. Reckless flying will not be tolerated."
Happened about 5 or 6 times now. And every time a cop bounces off my ship I get fined. Also get fined when anything else bumps you. Speed has nothing to do with it.

Maybe the cops are improving their skills. No cop wallops the last few days.

Today one scanned me and before he could say his usual spiel he crashed into the outpost.
Then as I was leaving, another Torval's shield said I was useless to him and he gave me a shunt from underneath. Then he high waked after his drunken mate.
