Need a good laugh? Watch my DBX lose power and explode on the surface right in front of my SRV!

Oh my, getting your ship destroyed while in the SRV, what a noob mistake, muahahaha!

....

So, I'd like something good to come of this conversation other than just pointing and laughing, as it were.

What are your thoughts on rescue mechanics and should this be something Frontier implements, time and viability permitting? :)

The same happened to Bomba and was stuck in his SRV for some time. There was a story about it.

Are you advocating for Ship Rats to be an in game profession? :)

When stuff like this happens it's best to just log off think of a plan do a bit research and come back trying to fix it. When I fell inside jetstream for first time I logged off and thought of a plan and it worked I escaped. Worst case, write a ticket if it's unbeatable bug.

I only got 1 death refunded by FDEV when I hit invisible ship 5km away from station and got IK. No warning, nothing logged on screen just stations one hit killed me. Maybe game decided to spawn ship inside my cutter? I didn't hear pop of ship exploding, didn't see anything on radar since I always look at radar because why not, it's your only rear view mirror, in 3304? NO REAR VIEW MIRRORS? Cars in 2017 have proximity sensors, drive assists, autopilots. What the !@#$ do i have 80T of sensors inside? No rear view camera? Really? Someone is really disconnected from reality since even jet fighters have rear view mirrors.

It's why it's a shame that SRV mechanics aren't in multicrew. Otherwise you could take a multicrew capable vessel, with room for an SRV, to Mengy so he could simply board and be transported back to civilisation.

In this case though, since it looks to be a bug, here's hoping support can sort it out. There's probably quite a bit of data involved as well. Would be a shame to lose that.

Right, right. Goofy buggy business in goofy buggy buggies and all that, so this is likely something more for support to sort out. No questions there. I guess having not seen the video still yet for myself – honestly, seeing the droppings of context isn't how I get my jollies. So, permit me that.

I'd just like to see ways in which us players can interact with each other serve to be more rewarding and altruistic. I'm not a psycho, and I don't play this game as one either. There is an empty seat in my fully combat loaded Vulture exploration ship, and I'd honestly love to be able to take someone back home in it if they needed me too.

I would suck it up hardcore and take someone all the way across the galaxy in one play session if need be, something which I would never do for myself and on my own behalf.

My exploration Anaconda needs power management; I have to enable the vehicle hangar once the thrusters are off, in order to deploy the SRV. The ship complains about module disabling when it auto-orbits (because I'm not there to turn the hangar back off!) but has always nailed the return landing even on relatively high-G worlds.

The OP has made me wonder, though, whether the life support system is one of the things that is being disabled whenever the ship goes on autopilot. Might I be using up valuable oxygen whenever the ship dismisses itself and returns? Not that the few minutes it provides would do me any good thousands of ly from anywhere, but it's something I need to check when I next launch the game.

The further thought then occurs: if the life support is being disabled whenever the ship is in automatic flight, will it eventually cause the ship to explode if the oxygen runs out, as it would if I was on board? I really need to do some research on this...

Yup, that's the scenario where another Ship would just need to land (SRV Hangar installed but empty) and manually grant "Docking Request" by the stranded Player.
Then forming an actual (non-Telepresenced) MultiCrew until the stranded CMDR disembarks into a Station, where he can purchase a Ship.

This is golden.

And this is also how to deal with misfortune (i.e. in good humour). I do like watching people take it on the chin.

...*ahem*

Actually, I'm hoping that he remembers how I got told that I was an idiot (by others, not him), and other disparaging things in the Exploration Forum about a year ago or so for telling new Explorers that they should run with plenty of power, instead of relying on Priorities to make a duct-taped ship function...barely.

There is a whole .5 light year difference in jump range on a DBX between running a 4A Power Plant, and the 2A he was likely using on that ship.

As in, Point 5, or half of a light year.

I am sorry that it happened, in any case, bug or not.

Riôt

You make a compelling case, and I may just switch to a bigger power plant on my project build for next year's DWE2.

So yeah this happened to me tonight, enjoy a good laugh at my expense!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ii5kajuoBg

No idea what went wrong. My module power settings were set and I've never had this happen before, yet the DBX lifted off when dismissed but lost power only a couple dozen meters above the ground, and then proceeded to bounce about the surface! I found it funny at first until I realized my hull was rapidly dying, that's when I started recording, lol.

So I'm stranded 14,000 lys away from Sol on planet 5 F of the 3 GEMINORUM system, out on the galactic rim. I submitted a ticket because this just feels screwy. If I had accidentally goofed up a power priority then the ship wouldn't have lifted off in the first place. Hopefully support can fix me up, if not then I'll just find myself back in civilization right quick!

Let this be a PSA to all commanders: double check those module power priorities regularly just to be sure and safe! [big grin]

if it makes you feel any better I cant get the ship I actually landed in to come back, equally a few kly away :(

This exact same thing happened to me last week in my explorer spec conda. I was facing a different direction, so didn’t see what exactly happened, but as there wasn’t a base or other ships nearby I guessed it must have been some of the duct tape falling off my power management solution.

In the end had to self destruct the srv to get to the usual insurance rebuy screen.

That is a new one.... yeah, I can't think of how that could happen w/o it being a bug... If you mis-prioritized the engines, how did it take off? That's a new one.

To answer how this happens (since nobody has bothered yet as far as I can tell):

The thrusters are off by default when landed.
To take off they get spooled up and are then enabled.

A cutting edge explorer usually has the planetary vehicle hangar set to lowest priority - and as already mentioned turned off to avoid getting a warning on every jump.

Now upon turning it on to deploy, the priority was most likely accidentally increased to the level of the thrusters or higher.
Thus the moment the thrusters were turned on upon takeoff, they went down again due to power priorities.

You can reproduce this if you like. Just log into the base game to get back into the ship instead of recalling it to drop like a stone.
