Need a good laugh? Watch my DBX lose power and explode on the surface right in front of my SRV!

I think you are not to blame for it, who would've thought about this? I (and I expect everyone else) didn't even know that this is possible.
Agree.

Besides, if the AI autopilot is smart enough to turn on/off modules to take off and even go into frameshift, but is not smart enough to turn on/off modules in such a way that it can land, only means that the AI is half-done. I can do one thing, but not the other. It would be better if it knew how to land and prioritized the modules automatically for the purpose (on/off) than how to get into frame shift. So I still consider it a form of bug, or at the best, a half-done concept.

Yep! Sometimes tragic stories have happy endings! Support fixed me right up and I have my DBX back in one piece! My first experience with support was a pretty great one.

I also found the cause of my troubles, and after some deep thoughts, I have to begrudgingly admit that it was due to pilot error. When I logged into the game tonight I was greeted with this less than normal situation in the cockpit:

I've always been meticulous about my ship's power settings, but I know how this happened. Right before I left Jameson I decided to bring along a second SRV just to have a spare. Normally my 2G Hangar goes in a size 3 internal and I have the 4A AFMU in the size 4 internal. In order to bring two SRV's I had to swap them, putting a larger 4G Hangar in and downsizing the AFMU to a 3A. When I did this I never changed the new 3A AFMU to power priority 4. This caused the power failure, because when I landed I did a quick FSD repair to fix some neutron damage, then powered up the SRV and deployed, and then dismissed my ship, which of course ended in tragedy. Normally the AFMU at priority 4 would simply have lost power and everything would have been fine. Totally my own dumb fault due to not double checking things after modifying my outfit.

It's all fixed up now:

Carelessness and utter complacency on my part. Even after more than half a million light years mistakes can still be made.

Anyway, I'm back and flying again!

Nice to hear you didn't lose everything out there. I've done many a dumb thing before, not least accidentally wiping my save from the main game, rather than one of the betas. Fortunately the very lovely Natalie sorted me out and restored the save file.

Things happen, at least in your case it was directly related to gameplay, and probably taught you a very valuable lesson in power management!

Fly safe o7

coud've selft destructed the srv and saved the dbx lol
but it begs the question why are we not allowed to switch back from the srv to the mothership like you can in a slf?

I landed, activated the AFMU and repaired the FSD which requires turning it off first. Thrusters were turned off as they always do when landing so there was plenty of power. I deployed my SRV and dismissed my ship, this is where the autopilot turned the thrusters back on. Note that the SRV bay is still on, as is the AFMU which is set to priority 1 by accident, but because the FSD is still powered down there is enough power. However, right after taking off the autopilot went to turn on the FSD drive to prepare to warp into orbit.

Ah, ok, that makes some sense. I'd missed the bit where your FSD was disabled due to being repaired. I assumed that it was already on. I might try this with a Sidewinder next time I'm online just to test. :)

But it is very cool that it is. :) (Now I understand it!)

So AMFU's to 4 Cargo hatch to 4
Anything else to 3 or 4?
I don't want this to happen to me ;)

Thrusters, FSD & Life support to 1 (critical)
Shields, sensors, power distributor to 2 (passive defence)
Weapons, scanners, cargo hatch to 3 (active defence, offence)
AFMUs, SRV bay to 4
Fuel scoop to 5

Depends on your loadout & power consumption of course. Your fuel scoop & SRV bay are never used at the same time, and AMFUs are normally disabled unless repairing (in which case something else can be manually disabled) or burning off fuel.

I never really thought about power management like that before. Luckily I'm on mobile right now so I took a screen shot for future reference.

Must buy another notepad.

Ouch....mate feeling your pain.

I recently pancaked into a high g world 22k ly from sol....a years worth of exploration data gone ..... so I do know how that feels.

So lesson is....don't leave the FSD powered down after repairs....good to hear support helped you out o7

Because you are never in an SLF. You remain onboard the main ship and fly the fighter by telepresence.
You are however physically in the SRV, and only use telepresence to control the turret.

One of the things I'd like to see tidied up is rationalising these two. Preferably by getting rid of telepresence but either way is good.

tbh telepresence within the same instance would be okay, I'd be happy enough to have my ship follow me around (out of weapons range) when in my SRV, but I'd prefer to be able to dismiss my ship when in an SLF.
