XBox One X launch is imminent... any news?

Even though I have a 4K display...I usually run 2.0 super-sampled at 1080p...much better results and framerates. E-D is very pretty [yesnod]

Gotcha not quite 2160p...but that’s a big leap from where it is today. This suggests Elite Dangerous could have significant upgrades.

In a statement made by the studio, Studio Wildcard confirmed that Ark: Survival Evolved on the Xbox One X will feature HDR and two graphics modes. The first is a "Detailed Graphics" setting with 1440p resolution and High setting at 30 FPS. The second is a 1080p mode which equates to the current Xbox One graphics, with improved 60 FPS. Those with a 4K display will benefit from the 1440p resolution and those with a 1080p display will also receive a boost. Though, you can also run the game at 1440p and enjoy the supersampled visuals on a 1080p display. The choice is yours!”

Ahh that's very interesting, I am hoping (although less confident) that work on the Xbox One X at higher resolution will bring some benefit to the PS4 Pro but with the issues the latest patch has been having on PS4 I am not as confident as I once was.

Out of curiosity, what would it cost to build / buy a gaming PC that has performance equivalent to the new XBox One X? I'm sure someone has worked the specs to figure this out.

One more question - will the XBox One X be like the PS4 Pro, where your games and saves and configurations will all transfer over from your current XBox One?

To the second question: Yes, everything carries over and everything is compatible between Xbox One consoles. All games and accessories, game saves, achievements, everything. You just basically replace the machine with a stronger one. (No pun intended.)

Notmally if 60 FPS were a goal it would’ve been mentioned by now. I’m not for certain but it seems they will offer two modes, one being graphic, textures and resolution and the other being performance based with some upgrades but not all.

Considering one of the worse games ARK is running an awesome mode in 4k and a awesome mode in 1080p we should be in for goodies. That game was 720p for a while and sometimes hits 900p but looks like 540-720p still

60 fps is not mentioned because it's already the goal (target framerate) which even the regular Xbox One can achieve on occasion. The game uses an unlocked framerate so if the X is that much more powerful it will be able to run the game almost locked to 60. The PS4 Pro delivers great results and this will be even more powerful.

6 TFlops pretty much will put you in excess of $799-$1600 depending if it’s a desktop or laptop. If you build it or get cheaper components you may find a lower cost.

The Xbox One X isn’t there is a feature to save some settings to an external Hd or just transfer items via your home network

the games that take advantage of the Xbox One X can have very large asset updates.

not sure but xbox 1/xbox1x doesn't offer the kind of graphic settings options like a PC graphics enabled rigs can offer.

Xbox can't do ulta-wide res...isn't that a mark against xbox...and I'm still skeptical on 4k ... seems like you need at least 1080 card or better to run 4k ..in high/ultra

wishing xboxers the best of luck, and I will follow your 1st hand results

Why would you expect a games console designed to run on a TV, to support a niche PC setting like ultra wide res.
It is a console not a PC.

Besides optimization on fixed hardware is much easier then like on a PC.

You need almost twice to power on PC to get the same results as on console. Lots of people tend to forget that.

I say yes, If Shadow of War runs in 4K, Elite can do so as well.

I think you lose some of that if the game is a port. Compare ED on PS4 to Uncharted, HZD, GTS, and other exclusives. (PS4 is my frame-of-reference, though XB1X may change that someday)

Yes, you are right, it even becomes better with console exclusives.. HZD is so beautiful. As is Uncharted..

I don't really care about graphics. I want xbox one/PS4/PC cross-play. One galaxy across all systems. I don't care if the PC players think console players are peasants. The galaxy can fit us all!

I would like this too.

And I don't think you guys are lesser players, actually I think the opposite.

I'm all about the graphics....could care less about cross platform play. I left PC on purpose as some of the PC games do offer some form of cross platform gaming but I'm good.

Ditto that - I happily switch to Solo when Open taxes my FPS. I have also resigned to the sad fact that Sony is not budging on the cross-play issue.

I went back to PC for exactly that reason...Xbox live and persistent AAA titles obsessed with forcing me to babysit other folks unruly brats online. I much prefer having peace and quiet to play a huge variety of games from many genres in graphic awesomeness all on my lonesome [yesnod]

Fair enough, that’s was why I went from Xbox 360 to a gaming laptop but gah I spent $1200 for great graphics but I noticed a lot less games came out and I spent a lot of time tweaking my PC to run each game.

Today there are a lot more pc options but also lots of Console game options but the tweaking is simplistic on console.

The brats appear everywhere in the games I play so I can’t avoid much. I do really enjoy how this game offers private party and solo modes. I might be getting old tho [noob]
I do expect obvious updates for the Xbox one x so let’s hope the news comes next week

It's useless to make this into a PC vs console thread. It's about Xbox One X for console players and what improvements Frontier will possibly bring to the table. It's not related to how much a PC costs and what it can do. It's quite disappointing that the developers haven't commented on One X support yet. I sense a really "quiet" update - it will just enable the PS4 Pro graphics modes and that's it.

The question (and answer) is not useless to me. I'm a PS4 console player with zero investment in the XBox platform. Because Frontier is currently screwing up ED on the PS4, I find myself looking at alternatives. The XBox One X is an alternative, but then again, so is a PC. For that matter, I thought Microsoft was working on making all XBox One games playable on PC. If that's true, and I haven't misread, then comparing the XBox One X to a PC for the sake of answering the personal question, "which should I buy?" doesn't seem so far off topic.

That said, I'll probably just stick to my PS4 and hope that FDev eventually learns how to write software for it :p

I will give you your simple answer.
If you want the best version of ED and are prepared to pay for the tech, then PC is a no brainier.
If you want the best console version then it's ED running on the Xbox oneX, even in its current state it will run better.
Also the update to Xenhanced should see a marked improvement.

You May have misread....Microsoft isn’t seeking or planning to make all Xbox One games playable on PC too. They have updated their development tools and store as well as the API, etc so IF a developer wants to make an Xbox play anywhere title, it’s a minimal commitment from a development standpoint.

Existing games....may change or may not so the other comment about staying on topic is an accurate and the best focus.
The xbox one x system offers Fdevs the opportunity to update this game for Xbox one and whatever else they decide would technically be a seperate discussion based on what we don’t know about the Xbox one x update
