Docking pro tip: belly up!

When approaching your assigned docking bay, turn belly up, so that the roof of your cockpit faces the bay. Look straight up, and when you are aligned with the bay, stop. Now, all you have to do is roll 180 degrees, and apply vertical thrusters.

Requires flight assist and rotational correction ON.

With a bit of practice you'll be able to hit your spot with very little adjustments!

While cool, the docking HUD does the same thing for you.

And I tried doing your exact trick with an Anaconda back in Alpha.... Things didn't go well.

Docking HUD only comes online when you're very close to the bay.

But yeah, I've only tried it with a Sidewinder, other ships might have restricted views...

belly up seems crazy, but you can come in on your nose get all aligned nice, then pitch up until level and bring it straight down, by now you'll have docking HUD for minor adjustments.

This is what I do when the landing pad is right inside the station entrance.

Watch the target compass on your HUD. If you can stop the instant it switches from a solid rectangle to a hollow one you can drop right on top of the docking pad
