Who would be willing to PAY for ships?

Why is this even being discussed? If you really think FD will cave and really do this, then you are living in a fantasy world. It's been shown time and again, FD has a vision for their game and they aren't going to deviate from it no matter how many ask them to. Remember when people were asking for a supercruise autopilot? There was a massive thread about it and FD, while I'm sure they read it, replied not once that I can remember and we still don't have a supercruise autopilot. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO SELL SHIPS IN THEIR STORE!!!!! So let's just move on to more important things that maybe we can change. Cause this one was a lost cause from the get-go.

Really, im for sure against.

Thank GOD ED is not SC!

But i will be happy if i can buy a season pass again - and for sure, more cosmetics for the ships we can buy with IN-GAME MONEY.

=)

Absolutely no. I'd happily buy another season pass if I weren't an lep holder and I'll also continue to pick up bits and bobs from the cosmetic store, but definitely no ships. It would ruin the game IMO.

Can we get a moderator to lock this thread? All it is doing is taking up more and more space. It doesn't matter whether people will or won't. FD ain't gonna do it.

I am with KellyR on this, especially since the "vision" of the OP got more and more ridiculous. He ultimately lost me at the point, where he wants the existing ships:

- sold in the shop
- with a modified module roster

and finally

- the restriction of being unsellable.

That's stretching the requirements quite a bit, even without the consequences of the introduction of this feature considered.

It ain't worth discussing it anymore. (If it ever was.)

Nah, allow buying of ships.

You just need £150,000,000 to buy an Anaconda!

FD would be set for life. Lol

And of course, ships brought with real money, have a real money rebuy, so £7,500,000~.

And you can only play in Open, because you can obviously fly better because you have multi millions to spare.

Oh, and the Anaconda is identical to a normal Anaconda. :p

...I'll get my coat...

It may be circular to some. But to me the case still needs to be made as to WHY NOT. FD not chiming in is intentional most likely because they can't say they never will sell ships. We've established people do not want to give them anymore money for anything useful (only for useless cosmetics). They've stated they'll ragequit if ships are sold. They don't want to anger the customers. That being said the people who would buy the ships would outweight the loss of customers who are not paying anymore anyway. It just makes good business sense for them to get this game to 10 years to sell something "else".

Why not? I'll tell you why not. Firstly it would be too much like pay to win. Second, there's already a game that does that and there have been allegations of improper use of such funds. And last, but certainly not least is they want people to play the game. If you can take and purchase an Anaconda/Federal Corvette/Imperial Clipper with real money, you short circuit actually earning it in game and won't appreciate it. I own a Python. I value that Python a WHOLE lot more than if I had just been able to plunk down $10 or $20 or $50 for it.

But all that aside, the real reason is they've said they absolutely WON'T do it. That should be enough. They don't have to explain their reasoning to us. It's their game. We are guests in their house. Paying guests, granted, but guests nonetheless.

You misspelled "a person".

No I didn't. I didn't say "a person". I said "a moderator".

I think Lilos favourite alíen pet already said why not. I think you should read your own thread.

Ugh, if you REALLY want P2W there are plenty of options, just don’t contaminate one of the rare games that don’t.

Why not? I'll tell you why not.

mmkay ...

Firstly it would be too much like pay to win.

not necessarily, but very likely. however, since horizons the game is already pay to win in a sense. it's subjective, but if you bought the base game and want to keep competitive in combat you absolutely have to pay for horizons, that's a strong case.

but then again, paying for ships doesn't need to mean different specs, it could be cosmetic changes or other features not related to performance, so anycase this argument seems moot.

Second, there's already a game that does that and there have been allegations of improper use of such funds.

yes, and i heard someone found a rat tooth in a hamburger. plus it is known that they are unhealthy. doesn't mean the hamburger business got busted, in fact they're still sold in the billions and people chow on them like crazy. (and btw rsi really looks like a scam scheme, or bubble. i honestly do think frontier is a different breed of company and has exhibited very different practices (flaws, flops and all)). so this is a very silly argument.

And last, but certainly not least is they want people to play the game. If you can take and purchase an Anaconda/Federal Corvette/Imperial Clipper with real money, you short circuit actually earning it in game and won't appreciate it.

you obviously haven't read about how to get a conda in 2 days (iirc, or some ridiculously small time anyway). frontier very much made that possible with 'exploit' after 'exploit' and leaving them unfixed for months ... which could indicate that they're intentional. bear with me, debating if they are exploits or not (i don't care) is not the point, the point is that their mere existence renders this argument just invalid.

But all that aside, the real reason

wait, waaaait ... are you saying the three reasons you just bothered to write are not real? well, i already knew that ;)

is they've said they absolutely WON'T do it. That should be enough.

yeah. ok. that's fair enough. anyway ... the title of the thread is 'who would be willing to pay for ships'. i guess you wouldn't. know what? me neither (or very unlikely). people can still talk about it if they have fun with it. why does it bother you?

Can we get a moderator to lock this thread? All it is doing is taking up more and more space. It doesn't matter whether people will or won't. FD ain't gonna do it.

oh, this obsession with closing threads, slamming doors, silencing discussion ... must be even less healthy than hamburgers!

You know how space games are a niche and most dev's wont touch them, it's because of the finite number of people who will potentially buy in limiting profits. This means less cash being spent on our favorite genre.

Why not allow people to buy ships or credits, don't sell rank or engineer modules/access so you keep the big two play locked but let people pay for the same sort of leg-up exploiters get from grinding Quince for a week or whatever.

People have been taking short cuts for cash since Gamma to my knowledge, this wouldn't change that.

I'm a space billionaire with big ships already none of this applies to me. However star citizen increasingly looks like a $150 million waste of space game money, which is probably more than has been spent on the genre as a whole in decades. Why not allow FDEV to put some of that to good use.

After a year break with ED I had high expectations on my return.
- I thought atmospheric landings would be there.
- I thought PP would have changed entirely
- I thought I would be able to walk on surfaces of the planets
- I thought they would fix harmless black holes
- I hoped for some navigational improvements
- I expected the war with the aliens to kick off finally
- I hoped for the return of stealth ships maybe
- I hoped for less grind in order to obtain engineer parts.. vision of that grind made me quit days before Engineers were released. In the past you could have been relatively competitive in PvP without much of the grind, but with engineers it's just a time sink of tedious repetitive tasks I didn't want to take part in.
- I hoped for HUD colour variety, this ugly orange makes me want to vomit

All I found was a bunch of useless to me options. And the ONLY thing that definitely 'IMPROVED' is added variety of optional packs in FD shop (paints, add-ons, decals, merchandise) for real money. So monetising is what FD was working the hardest on from one-year-absence perspective.
I have no doubts FD team would love to sell ships too, but not gonna do it (for now) because that would upset a lot of people.

PS. Oh and free-view camera is broken, I can no longer take a decent picture.
