A couple of Hauler range examples (B1.01)

Managed to finally buy my first ship (apart from the free Sidey, of course) and went for the Hauler. Here are a couple of data points for jump distances, in case anyone needs 'em.

Vanilla Hauler (i.e. no additional hardware installed), tanks full

Ovid - LHD 6309
6.01 LY
max cargo ? (not 15, no matter what Galaxy map says) tonnes

Ovid - Opala
6.09 LY
max cargo 12 (not 14) tonnes

Please note the distances are as reported by the slider in Galaxy map navigation screen. They might not be 100% accurate.

A word of warning about the navigation screen's distance slider in the Galaxy map: it can, and often does, give false info.

Just now it told me I could take 14 tons of cargo from Ovid to Opala. But when I pressed the Hyperjump button, a warning buzzer sounded: over the fuel consumption limit.

So I jettisoned 1 ton of cargo and tried again. BZZZ!

Jettisoned another ton of cargo and this time it let me jump. So instead of the 14 tons reported by the Navigation screen's slider, the limit was actually 12 tons.

I've noticed this. And not just with the Hauler.

the Tonnage slider (and the rest of the navigation system) is rather hit and miss at the moment. First thing that I think is needed is for the slider to snap to each weight value, as I've seen (between I-Bootis/Styx and Opala especially) that having the slider at the lower threshold of some tonnes allows you to go through some systems, while those same routes get cut-off while on the upper threshold of the same tonnage!

Also, I do enjoy checking the map to see if I can reach somewhere, check it with the weight, set the destination in the ship, load up the cargo, check the map and weight again, reset the destination, undock, clear mass-lock and engage hyperdrive only to be told that, actually, I can't reach it! :p

I can understand if you're in an uninhabited system but if there is a station, why jettison the cargo? Just dock, fill up the tank and sell the excess! You'd only loose a few credits rather than a few hundred. (Please tell me you're not doing this with gold?!:D)

It was fish - and I just couldn't be bothered to dock again :p
