I Just Smashed Up a Corvette

So here’s me grinding my way to Federation Navy admiral rank to get a Corvette, thinking they’re tough ships. One has just pulled me out of SC. I’m in my engineered FDL, so thought I’d see what a Corvette was made of. And I smashed his face right off. They seem to be a lot slower than the FDL, so often I was able to line up on him quicker than he was able to on me.

I still want one though. :D

You sure it wasn't just another stock vette? I see so many of them. Person grinds up the rank, has the cash to buy but not to upgrade and takes it out in open to show off......these stories usually end with a shiny new rebuy vette or thread crying about losing everything. =)

They can be outfit to be tough ships, but you can't fly one like a fighter, it will be a different experience to an FDL ;)

Sounds like a noob in the vette, or un-engineered vette, or both. I have both, and both are engineered. And while I only PvE, there is no way I'd win trying to take on my vette with my FDL. Assuming the same piloting skill in both ships of course.

Keep going. You will eventually run into a serious PvP Corvette sooner or later. :)

This is because everyone cried when the NPC's had engineered ships, the game was considered 'too hard' so frontier nerfed everything rather than people stepping up their game.

People would rather sit in 5k shielded turreted cutters and watch movies rather than learn how to fly or fight properly.

Thats actually vary valid. I remember when Engineers dropped in and there was such a hullabaloo about vary tough NPC ships.

The toughest fight I've had so far was going head-to-head with another FDL. I beat him after a long hard struggle, but I limped away, licking my wounds, with shields gone and down to 1% Hull. It was a kid that was fighting me. Had to take my hat off to him, he didn’t Combat Log, and didn’t whine when he was defeated.

How long did it take to kill it?

Agers!

NPC Corvettes are no harder than any other NPC's.

I took on two Elite Corvettes in my Python once, when a mission glitches spawned my assassination target twice. Lol

I won. :D

I also now own a Corvette. It's quite good, but I've not really given it a proper field test yet.

Yes, I too have had a number of assassination missions where I’ve dropped into the mission signal only to find two targets of the same name, both attacking me. However, only one, when locked onto, was identified as the mission target.

I've got this on video twice. Haven't uploaded either yet. I't shappened to me three or four times now, each time, I drop into the mission target, aggro the target, and a few seconds later he jumps in, in an identical ship. Usually, they both aggro you, but one time, he helped me kill his other self, which was nice. lol. :)

Got two heavily engineered 'vettes. Also got an FDL. Two different fish with different abilities. An experienced commander in either could nail the other by taking advantage of the others weaknesses. I wouldn't compare an NPC vette to one piloted and engineered by a competent CMDR as that is a sure fire way to the rebuy screen. Much the same with most combat ships tbh.

No; people would rather not be effectively required to grind their behinds off just to get to the same status quo that they had already reached pre-2.1. NPCs becoming fully engineered was one of the biggest fears of many here, and luckily FD have not given into the temptation to do this step, thus preserving (so far) the thin and fragile status quo where engineers are still technically optional. Let's keep it that way.

Must have been an NPC

otherwise

I missed the thread about the CMDR who lost his Corvette and didn't have enough for the re-buy

You will be amazingly disappointed.

The jump range is abysmal on a great roll.

Do you know what ship out-jumps a Corvette?

All of them.

I agree with this, it's a poor choice for explorer, not just the jump range, it's size limits where it can land, and you definitely need to have your wits about you on high G worlds, Corvette is a combat ship but not a dog fighter, best to arm it to the teeth and put in a fighter bay.
