I'm back after a four month break, what did I miss?

I took a break for four months but now my ED mojo has been recharged so I'm back. First thing I have to do is remember how to fly my ship, but after that are there any game changing revelations I should know about?

I know the Thargoids are here and they are nails, but apart from that?

Like most forums searching for specifics is a little difficult here so I am completely clueless as to what Aegis is, only have a vague idea of what INRA is and have read about AX weapons which apparently might be effective against the bad guys.

I don't care about Thargoids in a hope that they won't care about me in return.

But there are several very cool things that got added. The galaxy map is now kinda awesome, for example (It's a big deal for an explorer). 20kLY route-plotting with neutron boosts included, everything is quick and smooth.

If you're not planning on fighting Thargoids then everything else is the same apart from better galaxy map route plotting. Aegis is a new faction in the game. They make the AX weapons which you use to kill Thargoids. The INRA stuff is a bunch of POIs hidden on various planets. It is only accessible on youtube or by reading forum posts.

Encourage factions to not expand into starsystems that require permits

Factions that retreat from a starsystem will subsequently treat that starsystem as a low priority when choosing an expansion target

Restored the missing descriptions for the GU-97 and Taipan Fighter when viewing their details via the Roles panel

How the hell have I been playing this game since last December (minus four months) and not come across this wiki? Cheers CMDR.

Well, maybe because you were like me. You opened this $@^#& wiki and were annoyed by the sheer mass of ad overlays that cannot be closed on most devices and make mobile reading impossible. Then you removed it from your bookmarks and forgot about it?

Anyhow, is the information on wikia (e.g about Aegis) somewhere available in the same condensed form? Our do we really have to follow all the forum posts and long worded lore just to lose completely track of what's on (just like it happened with the Formidline Rift). I really would like to start with Thargoids but I am overwhelmed by all the information and misinformation available.

There's a Mega ship touring Nebulae at the moment and if you want to go to Colonia half the mission boards are offering you missions to go there :)

Probably other stuff...

Fix for an issue where Ship IDs would only show 5 characters despite 6 being entered
...but that's not worth mentioning.

None of that is significant. It's the usual tweaks, bug fixes, and additions of new bugs. Doesn't substantially contribute to or detract from what it's like to play the game.
 
2.4 is a real treat, except for the goids, they are meh and I will do my best to avoid them completely :D

Watch ObsidianGalnet and you'll be in picture without reading wall of game immersion text. Watch OA and you're golden. I had 6 month break but I keep watching OA so it's like I never stopped playing the game.
 
Lol, be real man. Its okay to be grumpy but stick to the facts. I've been spending time in tons of impromptu wings fighting all new enemies with new abilities using new weapons. Of course it contributes to the game. Maybe you dont like to do any of it, but when someone asks what is new you should at least not lie about it just because you cant bring yourself to admit others enjoy the new content. Its really petty, that desire to turn any topic into a 'lol diz gaem soo stupit!!' whine.

You mean Thargoids? Yeah, that's what's in 2.4, and I mentioned it. OP was explicitly asking about changes *besides* Thargoid content, of which there is little. I was responding to someone who seems to think that correcting typos and adding more Xbox achievements deserves to be mentioned when someone asks what's changed in 4 months.

It's cool, man. I fully acknowledge that Thargoids are a thing, and a big thing at that.

What about, for example, the mission board? You can now go to systems with one faction and always have a whole ton of missions to chose from? But yeah, Thargoids-related stuff is 95% of 2.4 so far, although a new ship would probably help a bit. ;)
