200Cr Death

While hunting pirates in Scylla I accidentally hit the wrong target. I picked up a 200cr bounty with the Progressive Party of Scylla for my trouble. Fair enough. This immediately attracted the attention of 8 Federal ships, fair enough. But I escaped and went to Edison Gateway ( owned by the progressive party of Scylla ). I went to the contacts section to collect my rewards for pirate hunting and to pay off my bounty but discovered that the bounty I had accrued was not listed. Checking my transactions the bounty was listed as "On-H" - I'm not entirely sure what that is but I figured it would become active on Hyperspace to another system.

Now comes the annoying bit - I then Launched and was scanned by the Federal vessels and suddenly attacked and killed before I could escape the mass lock of the station. Now I have respawned at the station at the cost of over a million credits but I know that the bounty will be dormant until I'm scanned again. Yet I still have no way of paying off and it's only 200cr!

I will of course try going silent and drifting out of mass lock range but how do I now get rid of this bounty if it's not showing up on the contacts at a station owned by the faction I've accrued the bounty with?

You can't pay off bounties.

Welcome to the underworld!

You can pay off fines (ramming, wreckless flying) but with bounties you can't.

On H-Jump means that you're no longer wanted on Hyperspace jump (because that's the way the server works). Simply tagging someone for 200cr gives you a bounty for 5 minutes.

Once 5 minutes is up, you can jump back and even if you're scanned, the bounty won't appear. It becomes dormant.

OP you got a fine, not a permanent bounty. On-H means your WANTED status disappears on the next hyperspace jump. Then you can go back to the same spot and carry on. There will be a small fine you can pay off. Don't pay it (within a week I think it is) and you get a bounty.

Learn to aim and this issue disappears. Good luck.

Well, if you want to get rid of the *bounty* (if its truly a *bounty*), there is a way - you buy a cheap sidewinder, and get yourself killed. This will wipe bounty.
But it will also wipe all your unclaimed bounties, bonds, PP merits & exploration data - so make sure you don't have any.

Advocating exploits now are we?

Oh, shush. This "exploit" have been there for years. They should fix in 5 minutes it if they don't want people to use it.

Anyway, bounty gets wiped if you dead - so just manage to die without losing too much.

I mean sure, if you wanna' cheapen your experience... I can't stop you.

But I can say you're playing badly. :p

The "on h-jump" means to jump to another system and the fine can then be paid of anywhere, wanted status disappears.

But I would surmise you didn't hyper but went into SC and ended up in a station for the faction that wanted you, hence they shot you. You were probably not scanned on entry but on exit.

When this happens again, jump to a system unrelated to the issuing faction, let the timer expire, confirm not "wanted", resume play.

Well, In transactions it said "Bounty" and a message popped up saying I had gained a bounty. I had a friendly targeted at the time while looking for "wanted tags" and clicked the trigger by accident. Either way, if there's a next time I'll just jump out of the system. I'm still quite new. Played in the first week after the game launched then left and only came back a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the replies

@rrobes yep I was scanned on the way out not the way in.

I think there should be no 200cr death sentences in the game.
Bounties should have a minimum value that makes sense. Everything else should be a fine.

I think for accidentally hitting an innocent ship without killing it we should get a fine.
It could be a relatively big fine. Let's say 3000 credits, if you hit the shield.
The fine could be even bigger when you actually penetrate the shield and damage the ship. Let's say 6000 credits. This is added to the previous shield-hit bounty.
As soon as you destroy the ship you get a 20.000 credit bounty on your head + the previous fines.

Fines for hitting an innocent could also be calculated per hit. let's say every bullet or laser bolt that hits the victim will cost you a 1000 credits.
For beam lasers it could be 1000 credits for the initial hit and another 1000 for every 2 or 3 seconds your beam is on the victim.

I agree.

I'm sorry but that would make too much sense.

We have this 200 cr bounty issue since day one basically, it won't be tweaked any time soon at this point.

"Playing badly"? For simply wanting to prevent another $1,000,000 credit penalty as a result of a minuscule 200-credit fine? The only thing that is behaving "badly" in that situation is the game's design: it tries to murder you and take $1,000,000 of your credits for a rebuy as the result of a tiny 200-credit fine. That's like executing someone for accidentally jaywalking across an empty city street. And then berating them for not wanting to be murdered for it.

So I call that "working around ridiculous game design", not "playing badly". But to each his own...

dbeachy1, exactly. Its not "playing badly", its "playing like a person with half a brain".

They place a death warrant on you, so you are in constant risk of being targeted & destroyed. Obvious thing would be not to fly most expensive ship, if you want to avoid rebuy cost.
If you can bear re-sell loss + insurance of cheaper ship - why not let cops do what they want and destroy it? After all they deem it to be sufficient penance and alternative to having wait for timer to expire.

Its not using any external tools, no wierd key presses or any other dodgy behaviour not found in normal gameplay. Its simply *gaming the system*, while staying entirely in-game and in-character.
If you prefer to be a tool and let stupid laws roll over you without trying to use your brain how to minimize impact - be my guest.

Also, I never said OP *should* do it. Wherever he will decide to do it or not (if his moral compass prevents him, for example) is up to him - I simply stated there is a way.

Also, myself nowadays I never use this to clear my bounty. I simply don't care about bounties, or if I am in hostile space, at all. Simply because nobody can interdict me unless I let them - and it seems just how game made *shrugs*. Yet another example of "quality" game design /s

Well last night I was having fun in a HiRes when in the middle of this little fur ball the cops start shooting another ship. I scanned...but I guess I was just a hair to fast on the trigger and tagged it..got a bounty. No big deal should be just a ten minute bounty but oh no! He was wanted and the cops polished him off and I got charged with the murder... dang I was just trying to help and now end up with a week long bounty/ban.
My fault I know.
Well I needed to find a new home system anyway😊

Fined for shooting a ship before the scan completes? Yes. However, you shouldn't get a bounty for the murder of a Wanted pilot - assuming the scan finishes before the target pilot's ship & life is finished off, but you did say he was wanted so I assume it had. If you were given a bounty for killing a wanted pilot, please submit a bug report so it can be fixed.
