So I'm very close now to obtaining my first Elite status and it looks like it's going to be for exploration. I've just obtained Pioneer rank, which is the last one before Elite. My question is, once I've got to 100% Pioneer and the switch over to Elite happens, will it be 0% Elite, or just jump to 100% Elite?

I think it's much easier for an achiever to stay motivated with the progress bars. I reached Combat Elite before they were implemented by just playing the game. I was aware each rank required double the work of the last, and was actively trying to get to Elite but it felt like it took forever.
When the progress bars came in (1.4?) I was closing in on Exploration & Trade, and it made it much easier for me to work out how much work I needed to do. I had set myself a personal goal of Triple Elite within the first year & managed it with a week to spare, partly thanks to the progress bars.
