Are you guys happy with the current game and how the game has developed?

I wasn't at all, to use an euphemism, 3-6 months ago. As it stands now I care so little I just come here in the forums and sporadically watch some OA videos just to catch up with the """""story arc""""".

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I might be able to provide some insight.

The one thing I love about Elite Dangerous is the flight model. Everything else has either been implemented badly to a point where its not even worth the time investing anymore after a few thousand hours, sure I put the money forward, but can I honestly recommend to anyone I know or someone random on the internet, to buy this game right now? No I honestly can't, wait til further down the development path when everything gets more stable (otherwise understand the risk that comes with this game). So that might justify such a negative review. Especially when it seems like bug squashing most of all are on the back burner and still return regardless of the fixes.

The one issue however is that as soon as you voice an opinion, it turns into a jousting match about if its a personal problem "because bugs exist in all games" or if its the games problem. Thus, we don't talk about what fdev could do to fix it, nor could we provide insight around the issues themselves, we just exchange jabs as to who's right and who's wrong on the matter.

Well to probe a bit, if you liked the flight model enough to sink several thousand hours into the game then I would surmise that you *really really* liked the flight model. So much so that you were willing to put up with a lot of things that you did not like. So on average, wouldn't you say that your time in the game was worth it? Or that the asking price was worth it? Obviously it's subjective and I do not profess to speak for you. I just have a hard time squaring this.

If I put in several thousand hours into something then there must be a lot there to like, even if there's also a lot I don't appreciate. So on the whole, I can't imagine giving it a thumbs-down. No game ever is perfect, but at the point where something has kept you in your seat for dozens or hundreds of hours then either it's a good game or one's time and sanity is just not worth very much. ;)

Ah yes.. """""Story arc"""" the thing that someone think exist, but yet can't find any evidence to it. We have dismissed that claim.

I did it for the PVP, and majority of that time lately was spent more on the action of engineering, than PVP itself.

Edit: I'm being serious, the only thing that kept me around this game, due to the lack of expansion on trading, mining, and exploration, was PVP. Because the flight model, combat, and PVP are intertwined. Thats what kept me in the game for so long.

Edit 2: to add to this, PVP is what creates fresh narrative for the game, you may not know the person behind the pilot, but that fight, that one engagement is a refreshing experience as to why I fly and practice dogfighting.

Edit 3: forgot to add, there's no other space game with a fluid flight model as this one.

It Depends.

From a static point of view, if I should consider the game as it is, the game is nice and can give a lot of fun (although after 2.500 hours it has no more effect on me but this is not game fault).

It is not perfect - just like any game out there - but it has nice features which still now I lack to find in dother games.

Denying this would not be fair towards the dev.

From a dynamic point of view - I mean: since when I joined (febraury 2015) till now - insead I am very very disappointed about an halved development.

Honestly, if now we were at the end of the second expansion I would'nt say anything: unfortunatly we are at the end of first season over 2 half years and this, at least to me, means the game has been reduced to a cash cow and little more.

Even the so announced Beyond didn't get my attenction telling, instead, how slow the development will be: do we need to wait 1 year to fix game core place holder should be there at the release? Honestly I can't understand the people which are happy about that.

But I guess it's me after all.

So, overall, a very disappointing experience not per se but compared about how amazing elite could have been.

We know? And from where did we know it? Because they say so to you? Lol. They once say to you that after 1 year the horizons will be complete. What are you think now? After 2 years. And 2.4 is still not out actually. What we have now is 2.3.5 with a thargoids at best. How is your 2.4 Type 10? Do you even realise how much we will have to wait for it?

For crying out loud. Had enough of your posts. Going on ignore. I dont like doing it, but feel I have no choice.

Um, wow, lol. The vitriol is strong with you, for sure. Your initials aren't D.S., are they? :D

Then why not check back at the next patch, or the one after that? We all paid for what we have and aren't owed anymore. It can't be healthy to spend all your time on forums complaining about a game you no longer play.

I do check the patches, because I'm still interested in where the game might go.

But I paid for something more complete then this. You're trying to push your own expectations over my own opinions, which doesn't work very well since we're not the same person...so I wouldn't try to speak for everyone.
And I hardly spend "all my time" in the forums lol. I poke around to see what's what. Nice generalization though!

I am playing the game almost from the start on PC and from beta on XBox. Practically every day. Clearly I like it a lot. Still I think I know why people spend huge amount of time on the game and then hate it.

I've recently started second commander (was easier to justify it because it is free on consoles) and having a lot of fun. However main reason of it was that my main commander has nothing to do anymore. I have all ranks, money, engineer friends, 21 ships etc. And it took me more time than to many others because I simply do not use exploits. Or what I consider exploits anyway. It is boring even to me, and I am rather inventive in creating new tasks for myself.

But it has not to be so. For instance, we are supposed to be preparing for a war now. Potentially it is a lot of exciting, or at least meaningful activities. Like creating defenses, making reconnaissance, building new ships and bases, conducting research, mobilising. Instead we had 3 weeks of exteremely bland experience with trade CG and now a week of nothing.

Frontiers clearly are capable of creating beautiful toys. A lot of efforts went to planetary bases of multiple forms, generation ships, INRA sites, sensationally looking Thargoids and their bases - but they are all not much more than tourist sites. It looks as if somebody simply cannot invent a game for these toys.

I almost expect here a sandbox argument, but if I was bad at sandboxing, I would not be here after all these years. Good game design is not just regularly adding new tourist attractions. Pleople simply need a reason to continue playing the game. With all criticism of initial Engineers release, it created a lot of new reasons to play the game, But it is all in the past. We need new grinds. :)

they just give us so litle everytime and hype it up sooooo much. seems like frontier is more and more geting its head in the clouds. high on the endorfins of being on youtube. without alot of those youtubers this game would not be as populer as it is. the constant promis of something great that ends up being nothing more then a tourist site a week later. frontier is genius for not ever talking about content or lack of. the greatest content is lore. writen by players.... that ED adopted as its own... hope those people were paid. i fing love this game but comon. i have a hobby wile i play this game. i listen to audio books to pass the time of constantly grinding. thargoids have made the game alot beter for me atm. frontier does such a great job in so many ways. but fails at others. ed needs more fuuuuun. makeing more money makes it fun. most people fly around so terafide to die because moneys so hard to make they miss out on the true fun of the game. took me a year to be in a place that i dont worry so much about dieing. plus im so op now that npc elites are notheing. would be nice to run into heavy engineerd elite AI sometimes. maybie only after we have engineerd ourselfs. just to protect the non engineerd from being trolled by ai op ships lol. dont get me started on mostly harmless cmdrs in anacondas. thats where the ship grind is good. teaches people to get gud. Rip mostly harmless condas. i shoot everytime. its a mater of prinsable. if your gona fly with the big boys with the big toys .... and any good pilot knows a small ship is a big ones nightmear.

Ummm....errr...
<.<
>.>

I mostly like the game. I do not involve myself in all the things but some things I'm waiting to be improved like Exploration (Codex / Planets) and then there's things I've never had an interest like CQC.
Bottom line is they can't please everyone.

Dunno how many times I've heard these arguments though, getting tired and gets us nowhere.

I hate to say it but i don't like the course the game i heading. To much limited autogen encounters: Combat zones, mining zones, auto missions. Its all the same. No wonder, no story, just grind and respawn, grind and respawn. Nothing to keep me in the game. This is all a matter for a beta game, not a full game. I have hoped that devs will see this stupid auto respawn areas as a temporary measure, but i see that they think that nothing is wrong with it. Even some players on the forum like it. So i lost hope for this game.

Ah yes.. """""Story arc"""" the thing that someone think exist, but yet can't find any evidence to it. We have dismissed that claim.
The funny thing is that this """""Story arc"""" already played out months ago.

FDEV: "Oooooh. mysterious things are being added. You guys are gonna be so surprised. This content is gonna be so compelling. You guys will be pleased!"

Us: "Not suprised at all. It's thargoids. We've seen this coming for 3 years now. Not only are we not surprised, we can tell you exactly how it's gonna play out. Thargoids just outside of the human bubble, confined mainly to Conflict Zones. The "narrative" will be 99% Community Goals.

Joke was on us though. It was Signal Sources and not Conflict Zones. SURPRISE!

I paid less than $60 for the game and Horizons and I feel I have definitely gotten my money's worth. But as far as the direction and many of the added features, meh. I do think getting the main game flushed out before going further is a good idea. We'll just have to wait and see if what they are planning is worth waiting another year for.

If they eliminate system limited NPC AI, respawn of conflict zones, resource points, signal sources and give us a story and a campaign with an existing and realistic universe i would give my money for years to come. I am afraid its not going to happen. Devs are content with the amount of money now, and are not going to risk it. Grind and respawn and there is no need to script and make quests...
