Windows mixed reality, what is it, how does it compare to vr.

Hi guys, i have been watching some youtube, reading some articles, and still unsure where windows mixed reality is going, will it ever compare to vr in games ect.

As i understand it now, wmr is just a 3d os platform, lke steam vr, you enter your vr house, and you can play games on a big virtual cinema screen, but unlike VR, you are not actually inside the game.

My questions are: Am i correct in what i said above.
Is there any way to use these cheaper headsets for playing inside games such as Elite ect.
Are oculus, vibe ect, capable of windows mixed reality too.

I really like the idea of the windows reality, but i also want to be able to play games like the oculus, vibe do.

Also been watching the Primax 4k vr headset, is that another cheaper , but as good option to oculus and vibe.

Please inform me of the major differences and benefits as you see them, i am not that knowledgeable on vr just yet.

My understanding is they have cameras mounted on the headset that allows them to blend virtual and real elements inside of the VR headset. They are suppose to support steam VR by the end of the year which would allow you to play games like Elite.

When you play games from the Microsoft store that are VR supported it will play just like a traditional VR headset, not on a virtual display.

When Steam VR support is added later this year it will also play like a traditional VR game.

For simplicity, MR is Microsoft's marketing term for VR. The headsets themselves are "inside out" tracking; they use cameras IN the headset to track their location, so they are much simpler to set up (no need for tracking cameras or lighthouses)

Once Steam VR is working, they will, for the sake of argument, be no different to the Rift or Vive. Just another "headset".

That isn't it, completely, but if you have £400 the options are now more varied.

so if i was to buy a mixed reality headset, i would get all the virtual windows stuff now, and be able to use it for games like elite later. Would this only be games launched thru steam, or could i use it like the oculus in any vr game.
And also are the oculus and vibe type of headsets going to be compatible with windows mixed reality, and steam vr too.
Ideally planning for the future, i would like the one headset that can work for both games and windows mixed reality.

As for the Pimax 4k, I do wonder if it might be worth waiting until this: http://kck.st/2xOA2ZF

Theres a thread in this sub forum on it. If it delivers it will have no screen door effect and a wider field of view.
