lol Imperial Cutter

I didn't just miss the mailslot - I missed the entire Station. That's a first. Not kidding.

8A Thrusters installed for my first / maiden Station landing.

Spent the rest of the night engineering the Weapons, Shields, Boosters and Dirty Drives.

Now it boosts to 502 and I haven't even engineered it for weight yet.

I thought I was a T9 ace pilot - but man that Cutter drift is something else.

It is for these reasons that my Cutter is the only ship I have ever had that I use a DC on and I make no apologies for it.

Other than that I love it! :D

I love the Cutter when in the mood for it.

* It's the best ship for trading bar none, engineered or not.
* It's mass is so high that even with G5 Dirty Thrusters maneuvering it is a challenge and an acquired taste.
* It's a great multi-role ship!
* It's surprisingly good as a tanked PvE Battle Ship Once adequately engineered. I personally prefer it to my Corvette if it's just between to two.
* Because of it's mass, it holds a boost for a looong time. I hated that at first like most do, but now I just love it!

No DC on either of my Cutters. I like the challenge. It's like riding a supersonic bull!

It has a gargantuan weighty feel for sure. Lucky the 1st engineer I visited had a landing pad on the edge of a cliff, because my Cutter dropped a good 200 feet below what would have been normal ground level. It wasn't going fast just unstoppable slow motion down, down, down.

This beast of a ship will take some practice to master for sure.

I need to get playing Elite again, my next project is to outfit the Cutter as my new transport. Or do I keep the T9? Hmm. Probably use them both as transports.

Trouble is, when I go back to a small ship they feel as jittery as hell compared to the Cutter. Mind you I had to laugh last night as an FDL tried to ram me. there was only one outcome.

All Ships Other Ships:
Exit SC at Station
Boost
Request Docking
Select 0 Speed
Ship Slows Down
Docking Computer Engages

Cutter:
Exit SC at Station
Boost
Request Docking
Select 0 Speed
Cutter Rams into station

(I love my Cutter)

Maybe someday I'll get a Cutter, just to try it out and experience the flight model. I do love ships that drift. But it will be a while more before I can afford one. Maybe next year. :)

The T9 has nothing on the Cutter when it comes to drifting FA-OFF. I actually have to plan some maneuvers 10 seconds in advance when flying the Cutter, it is a very unforgiving beast if you push it too far.

I only wish I could miss the station... I've lost count of how many nose-dives and belly flops have landed my Cutter somewhere just above or below the toast rack - or even onto the toast rack because the Cutter handles like a block of soap on ice.

Part of its charm though, I suppose.

There are a few other ships that are particularly good at "stall-and-fall" though, but the Cutter is king.

There's nothing like trying to land a Cutter full of wanted passengers at a planetary starport without being scanned by the police. :D

Golden Rule of flying a Cutter: NEVER boost towards a mail slot. When you arrive next to a station, just use regular thrust.

Don't forget that exclusive Cutter Decal from the Store. It's absolutely mandatory and no Cutter Pilot should fly without it.

( Note - still valid with Grade 5 Dirty Drives :D )

PS.
This is the reaction of a Cutter Crew after Boosting towards a Station from 7km :

This is why I find Cutter of the "end game" ships fun to fly - you have to learn to fly it from the beginning haha, its like a truck on ice.

It's an acquired taste, for sure, but I've never had a problem flying or docking the Cutter. Maybe I just like the "drifty" ships ... or maybe the grind to unlock them has warped me so much that I've convinced myself to love them.

Or ...

Regardless, it's made me a decent fortune through trading!
