Wow! The Orca

So I picked up an Orca to run passenger missions to acquire an Alioth permit. I usually use my Type 7 for passengers but it was far away and I figured I could sell the Orca back afterword. But man do I like this ship. It is just comfortable to fly. Cockpit is awesome, pretty agile and a beautiful view. With an A classed FSD it has a decent jump range without engineering. I know it is expensive and frivolous but I think I will keep it. It is a luxury liner and it feels like I am piloting a small yacht. So what do you guys think? Any other Orca love?

Yes. There's a reason it's at the end of this chart.

Seems to be a lot of Orca talk lately. I have a python and conda that do everything better then the Orca but I can't bring myself to sell it. Just like you said it's comfortable to fly and the cockpit is great. It's one of those ships that has personality.

Totally. Got mine last week and visited all the engineers, now transports one luxury and two first class passengers simultaneously, jumping about 38ly at a time. Earned the investment back the same day. Lovely, fast ship. Got the dolphin before (and still have it), which is also great for getting the occasional sociophobic rich snot to look at some distant ice pimples.

Maybe I'll even try the beluga next, but the layout options seen a bit limited with the module slot restrictions if you want to equip shields and a scoop too. Also: Size! (Station announcer: "Make way for larger vessels to get stuck in the mailslot as you're trying to dock, please."). For VIPs the Orca is more than adequate, and the Anaconda seems the better economy-class mass transport in comparison. But who knows, maybe I'll fall in love with it as I did with the other two sea mammals (and the sound of their boost).

Welcome to the Winners Circle.

Aside from having the single best boost sound of any ship, the Orca is incredibly capable, far more nimble than any ship of its size, and a genuine joy to fly.

And as always, I welcome all Orca pilots to join the ranks of my own little group - The Killer Whales.

We're not exclusive, so if you belong to another group or even several, you're still more than welcome to call yourself one of us. I've hosted a few Killer Whale events in the past, and will be hosting more in the future.
One that is already in the planning is a galactic scavenger hunt. I just need to compile the list of items to hunt and decide where the final check-in location will be, so stay tuned for the sign up announcement.

Past events have included scavenger hunts, biathalon races (SRV and ship), and the laugh-legend Alpha Ring Race (SRV).

We a group of fun-loving folk with no political agendas. Shoot me a message if you want to know more.

I'm thinking of grabbing one, and outfitting with luxury.
I have other ships for 1st class.
Can someone with experience tell me if the luxury missions in general are more than 8 passengers?
Was planning 1 s6, but will go 1x s6, and 2x s5 if missions require the qty.

The cockpit view is the only reason I've liked the Orca and Beluga, now if only the helm of the Conda could be moved to it's observation deck.

You won't find more than 8, as Luxury passengers will not share cabins, even with other Luxury passengers. A single Size 6 cabin is all that is generally needed. Most Luxury passengers are fewer than 8, with 4-6 being the most common. 1-2 passenger Luxury trips are also pretty commonplace.

My own passenger Orca: https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/orc...83lB1AEAAA==.EweloBhBmUA4QFMCGBzANokICMF9A===

It's a genuine joy to fly.

I always thought the Orca would make a nice pirate vessel. Decent speed and good cargo. When security shows up you start sending out "Remember we're in the top 1% of travel companies."

Indeed - and unexpected if you're bothering other players.

It's true. I love my ExplOrca.

In passenger fit out with three cabins (class 5 and 6) mine does 39LY. Strip out the cabins, stick an SRV bay and my specially engineered class 3 lightweight shield on and that goes up to 47 LY. OK my Anaconda, Asp and DBX all jump further but 47LY is hardly slumming it and the Orca is an infinitely more stylish vessel for the gentleman explorer.

Oh yeah! It's a great ship as is her little sister the Dolphin, also a very capable ship.
Put some DD5's on her and enjoy. Mine cruises in the 450's and boosts to 591 and that's all A rated. Performance is superb and a pretty good good jump range to boot. I think mine's a little over forty in explo fit.
She's very versatile and I would never sell her.
I'll be getting a Beluga one of these days for a long trip out since is also looks very capable to.

@ Indigo. Do you have an Xbox branch of the Killer Whales?

Yup.

Mine is kitted out for luxploration.

I'm probably going to paint it, but I haven't figured out what I want for it yet.

SHHHHHHHH, don't come on here and talk about how great a ship is. Frontier reads this and it'll get nerfed. Just, cause.
Yikes!! You're right. Save the whales!!
Ummm! What I meant to say is it's a horrible ship, totally useless as is the Dolphin. The Anaconda, Python and Asp are just way better!
There! that should do it
Phew! Good call.

It my go to fun ship... forget passengers, put plasmas on it DD5 and as much armour as you can until it gets less responsive. 600m/s battering ram.

I have to admit, it was love at first flight. The feel, the sound, the handling, all awesome.

My one gripe is that it is a large vessel and that doesn't make sense. They could tweak its size and possibly a minor tweak on cargo slots and make it a medium vessel. Dolphin - small, Orca - Medium, Beluga - large just seems to make the most sense. It would help elevate the beluga somewhat also I think.
