Elite: Serenity

I've grown tired of pew pew and have come to love Elite: Dangerous even more for its serene qualities:

  • The audio
  • The flight models
  • The sandbox
It's no longer about the credits. It's no longer about measuring up. It's about flying aimlessly around the universe, wherever the odd mission takes me, wondering what the next jump might hold. No more killing for me.

Thank heaven for groups and solo. I haven't met the NPC yet I couldn't run from. :)

I hope that FD eases off the pew pew mechanics/grind and focus on content/narrative for the explorer in future.

Right on commanders.

*just a little rant about how awesome Elite: Dangerous is.

But you have to be chasing the almighty credit, only focus on the most rewarding missions - you can't have FUN in the 'Verse, this is work dammit. You have to grind until you own three of every ship in the game, only then can you look down your nose to all others and say "I have won"!

Seriously, well done Commander, the universe is a wonderful place with a lot to see and do - with a little misbehaving along the way. Now if only I could buy this uniform for my Commander .....

Always has been. I did a planetary scan mission the other night, but couldn't bring myself to board my ship again for about three hours afterwards as I was having so much fun just blasting about in the SRV. I stopped outside Azeban Orbital last night because it was on the dark side of the planet, and I'd never realised just how close that station is to the surface (compared to others). I was probably staring at the planet for ten minutes or so. That happens anytime I see sunrise, too.

I bought a second account yesterday due to the sale. Today I remembered why I'd always meant to get one... It's so that I can take a ship out into the unknown and not have to come back to the bubble.

Is Elite: Serenity available on steam?

I've often thought it would be really cool if Frontier entered in to some licensing agreements with various (very carefully) selected franchises to bring planets/systems and ships in to the game (where possible)... Who wouldn't enjoy flying to Krypton, Galifrey, Miranda, Alderaan (yes I know it was blown up), Vulcan (yes I know that one actually does exist) or Abydos? Or being able to purchase a Corellian Freighter, a Firefly class or something else?

I've been doing a bit more FA-Off, not because I'm good with it (I'm not), nor because it helps me turn faster in combat, but because its..... quiet. Sometimes I get tired of hearing my engine run all the time (which it shouldn't do anyway, but that's a different story). FA-Off lets me coast (which I should be able to do anyway) in relative silence, and it makes space feel more like, you know, SPACE.

It is indeed serene :D

I'm going to split my reply into two parts ...

Firstly, I like your idea ... but ... it would have to be a collaboration with IP that don't have their own games. For Example, Star Wars has a lot of games you can play and in some you can even fly the Millennium Falcon (I'm guessing here as I can't think of a game off the top of my head that lets you fly the Falcon). Same deal with the planets. There is a slight problem, this idea couldn't be canon in both their universes and Elite's as that would mean a shared or same universe.

Secondly ... I happen to know of a game where you can fly ships from other games ... I made a list of ship mods for X3TC which includes Star Wars, Star Trek, Aliens, Red Dwarf and Firefly. They might not work now, I can't remember.

Ok so if you just want fun:

-smuggle
-become a pirate
-find out all the secrets Fdev has left lying around in the universe
-create a minor faction
-help a power play power

Just some ideas, could be more out there too I haven't thought of.

When atmospheric planets become accessible I can only hope we discover a network of ancient stargates ;)

Been in the game since the very beginning, never chased credits.

What I would like are better exploration mechanics, a more fleshed out mining mechanic and a much deeper navigation mechanics. (Route plotting and exicusion)-
