What engineer Mod do you use for the Prismatic Sheilds??

Thermal Resist for all generators for me. Just roll and roll until you also get a mass/strength modifier side effect and you're golden.

Personally I go for a recharge secondary rather than strength, but then I don't run prismatic megaships so maybe that's different.

Add an SCB to each set up and take a look again.

It's a linear graph, nothing will change. Or rather I should say it will change in exactly the same proportion as now, so with 7 or 8 SBs (and are you really going to run without Heatsinks and Chaff?) Reinforced will be slightly better than with 6.

Sure. I am amused being so knowledgeable you haven't done it yourself before posting them?

Also do a proper ship setup. Not one that just carries shield.

I did, but you guys don't have my ships saved so it defaulted to Stock Eagle, since that is, you know, the default.

Also we aren't discussing ship builds in this thread we are discussing modifications specific to Prismatic Shields, which are a very specialised type of shield not viable on most ships because of the slow recharge. You don't need to add the cargo racks to evaluate different shield mods.

Resistances can never be a linear graph when we're talking about percentages. And if only you went ahead and added that 8A SCB you would see for yourself how your reinforced set up gets smoked even by your own thermal set up.

Also, I didn't use up the slots for heat sinks or chaff.

Maybe if you clicked on the links and looked at the numbers that you said that we should be looking at instead?

Resistances are % based, of course they are linear... I can't even at this point. Ok, look, what is 10% of 100? 10% of 200? 10% of 300? Plot those points, is it a straight line? Now do it again with 20%. Is it still a straight line?

Also, I thought you meant adding another SB, obviously. I'm not even sure what SCBs have to do with anything, no-one but no-one uses Prismatic Shields on combat ships and I seriously doubt that's what the OP got them for. What you are doing is called "moving the goalposts" in an attempt to change the argument. No thanks.

The only problem is that the amount increased is not the graph that matters whether it's linear or not. The total effective health pool is. And that is is certainly not linear since both base power (MJs) and resistances are variables that can be influenced through engineering and interact with each other.

Probably reinforced. If I were to do Prismatics I would most likely go max MJ instead of resists as resists just seem to work better with shield cells and bi-weaves. Reason being is that going Prismatics already shows intent on high MJ and in doing so I would probably forego shield cells as well. I see no reason to try to balance it when it would likely be more effective going whole hog.

Okay so only just having gotten around to prismatickifying my shieldses would somebody mind explaining just why the thermal resistance thingy is more desirable than the [whatever it's called] super hard shield thing? Please? Thanks a bundle.

Layne (clueless) Vakarian :)

With any shield, if you use shield cell banks, they will get more bang for their buck by picking resists. They're especially effective with Bi-Weaves due to their already higher regen rate and lower power consumption, which means you can add more high powered modules along with them. I prefer Bi-Weaves, shield cells and resists myself as Prismatics don't fit into how I like to run my ships, nor does the higher MJ they offer feel necessary in PvE.

Okay, so given I'm on 7a Prismatics, and have two shield cell banks ready and waiting, you're saying go for thermal/kinetic/explosive (whichever) resistance over outright MJ power? I'm already over-endowed in the power department :)

It's a shame there is no way to show objective evidence that you guys are wrong.... Oh, wait:

Cutter w/ Reinforced
Cutter w/ Thermal Resist

Reinforced is objectively better on Prismatics *unless* you aren't able to balance Resistances using the SBs, which would be unusual. Reinforced favours the high alpha Prismatics more than Thermal because of the way Effective shielding is calculated, so this wouldn't be the case on Ordinary or Prismatic shields.

Pfffft

PVE. When a player wants to fight, I run like hell. (Mind you, if that player wants to meet for a PvP in a stock [insert ship name here] I'm game :) )

I honestly think you should just ditch the Prismatics and go Bi-Weave. I feel the Prismatics are just increasing your shield regen time for not a huge benefit. You'd be able to save power and still be a tank by going thermal resist/resist augmented.

That makes a lot of sense but for this:
I like to play in open. I am in no way averse to PvP, but a) I'm crap, and b) I'm not prepared to accept a 40mil rebuy just for someone else's kicks. So the Prismatics allow me to take a bit of heat while I scram. And then we can arrange a one-on-one, if that's what the antagonist would like. Only not in my megaship. With this in mind, what I'm after is effectively a God-Ship in the PvE stakes, which at the same time offers survivability in open. I shan't fight with it in open. Either I'm over-powered and I win (big deal) or I'm under-skilled and I lose (bring on the cheap rebuy baby-ships). With this in mind, and with an eye on the 'Thargoid Threat', what do you reckon?

Reinforced - Stack augmented SB with secondary shield boost 25%+ until your resistances are 60+, then top up with heavy duty SB 60+.... for PVP.
