Hat's off to the Explorers out there

I'm am exploration epicure.
I cherry pick the good planets and high value scans.
However, if I find an ELW then I'm like Genar-Hofoen. SCAN ALL THE THINGS!!!

Another thing I do is stellar surveys. Pick an NGC star cluster a distance out and fully scan every body in all "named" systems in the cluster.
My last one was NGC 7789 out in the direction of Cygnus.

I've recently embarked on a programme of completing system scans, either for drive-bys I've done myself previously, or to complete systems which other, earlier commanders have partially explored.

I'm rationalising it as "second wave" exploration - the pioneers go out there in the first wave and sketch in the major features, the cartographers and surveyors arrive later in the second wave to capture the fine detail.

I'm probably over-thinking it, to be honest.

When scanning for money....My capt log program tells me the habital ls range. I scan from the sun to the edge of that. Sometimes I'll do the moons of a planet if they line up nicely. I avg 1 mil per hour or better, if in a lucky region of space.
I also set course in a direct that lines up several planets, and work jn a spiral, barely slowing down. Need to use the visual indicators, and the system map, and the log to determine how far, where to start and stop, etc
"My system" was a first discovery with 1 or more high metal content, water, anmonia, earthlike, gas giants, icy, and rocky. Paid 2.5 mil before bonuses. Its about 4kly from sol. Its where im going to retire.

I get through 1-2 systems per session scanning everything before making the Eco-jump to the next system which is approx. <2LY away. I have found many neighboring systems with ELW's this way.

It can sometimes feel a bit of a chore but with the right music on and something to drink it's become almost a routine for me now.

Well done on your own investigations CMDR M00ka. :)

My CMDR, when I explore, will only detail scan systems that seem interesting, and then I scan the whole system (except asteroid belts, I seem to be allergic to them). I drop in, honk, check for previous dicoverer's, if there isn't one and the system seems interesting, I'll scan it.

I never (or extremely rarely) do a detailed scan in a system that has already had a detailed scan done by another player (to me, that system has already been explored, even if it's just the main star), and if I feel the (detailed) system scan will be too lengthy or boring, I will happily leave water worlds and the like behind to be discovered by someone else.

I'm an Explorer, leaving planets unscanned (that aren't Rock/Ice worlds) is not how I Explore, but that's only my opinion.

Each player has to decide what to scan & what to leave in each system they visit. I scan all objects except for Asteroids, Rock & Ice worlds - this was made a bit more difficult when FD did an update, that made distinguishing planet types in the System Map quite hard to eliminate rock & ice worlds from HMC ones.

I past caring about how other players Explore years ago, it's my game & I explore how I want, there's no set rules to doing it & if others want to leave stuff then it's their call.

I still find it amazing that I can go off the beaten track for days on end & not come across a previously visited & claimed system, then jump into that planetary nebula system & BAMM! it's claimed!
I'm convinced some players have obtained a 30k LY jump drive from somewhere!

Made it back into the Bubble last night from an 8 month Maia->Colonia->Sag A->Bubble jaunt.
400M in exploration data and Elite Exploration rank to boot. Not bad for my first Exploration trip.
Now off to Hutton to pick up that free Anaconda.

Appreciated, but please keep your hat on, at least as far as i'm concerned.
The tolerance (i once had) for enduring such tedium may deserve your pity, but not your respect.
It does neither involve skill, or even patience, just the ability not to mind.
Glad i snapped out of it and found a better way.....short few day trips near the bubble.
There's nothing out there that you couldn't also find within 1000ly of Sol....only different ways how they're arranged.

Wrong on so many levels. Are we allowed to say on this forum?

Teehee, we are allowed, s. :D

But not s n i g g e r it would seem, I kind of get it but...

Which is why Im glad that FD released Elite with this 'Do As You Want To' theme.

I doubt that I'd still be playing if it was a 'Go to A & kill X many baddies, this will open B, go & kill another Y baddies to open C....' type of game.

Each to their.

I did a full surface scan of every body, including the belts and for all my efforts I received the grand total or just over 300,000 credits. This was for just over 90 minutes work.
I made 1.8 million in a single system a few nights ago. My "Sell Page" total for fifty systems was over 6 million. I don't explore for money, but it can be made easily. Use this chart.

Would love the system name of something within 1,000 LY of Sol that contains 4 black holes, 16 suns (some ringed) and a neutron star. I found that little guy 5,500 LY from Sol.

Nobody scans all bodies in every system he comes across, maybe once in a while but not all of them. That would take way to much time ^^

I do!*..

It takes ages, is a bit pointless and is totally inefficient money wise but do it anyway. I hate leaving things unscanned.

I may break the habit one day but not yet.

I'm lucky to make it more than 200ly a day :)

* Actually this is a lie, I have finally (mostly) given up on asteroid clusters. I used to scan those too though.

After completing this little task, one I will not be doing again, I must say I had new admiration for those brave souls who venture out into the black and do this day in day out for god knows how long. Well done to all Explorers out there, well done, but how did you not go crazy lol

The answer is simple: we just go crazy....[wacko]
