Wow. First time in 3.5 years I think: That´s it for Elite: Dangerous

What do you mean, we've got little info on it? Been playing it as long as ED? :S Anyway, just pointing out that I as a consumer simply see ED as the best choice. I dont care why that is, that is not my problem. Btw, the ED kickstarted closed under two million quid, NMS got over 10 million in pre-orders. SC got 160+. As a consumer I dont care either way, ED and NMS (got both btw) are priced the same and SC is still garbage after a similar development time. Which CEO earned more hardly influences my gameplay. ;)

Sorry, the X game - I didn't realise you were referring to Rebirth - I thought you meant the new one under development.

NMS pre-orders don't get any money until it ships - AFTER the initial development, and quite a lot of those didn't happen until late in the dev process anyway.

Who mentioned CEO's? I never did.

Calling SC "garbage" is way too strong, it's incredibly complex and buggy and other stuff but "garbage" it isn't - not even the worlds press have said that... NMS on the other hand at launch.... yeah wasn't good was it, garbage didn't even begin to cover it.

You are correct that ED IS the best choice, because of the four it was the ONLY real choice until middle of this year with the latest NMS Atlas rising update, but the way you worded it looked as though you are claiming ED is technically better in terms of BGS and playability when 2 of the 4 aren't even out of alpha yet, with NMS being at best Alpha+

I LOVE the look of NMS - don't own it, on sale now folks! But I grew up reading the 50's - 70's trashy sci-fi books of my fathers, with the artworks on the front that inspired the stylised graphical theme of NMS.

I'm tired of this, *sigh* can we be friends now?

Well, let me put it like this: to me store=cosmetics only, and LEP=access to all DLC/Expansions for free. I hit the virtual barricades during 'nameplate-gate' when they tried to deviate from the former, and I'll be there again when they try to nullify the latter. As said, I've seen nothing but statements they'll honor the LEP, so I am not that concerned about you guys. It wouldnt just be pretty shady, it'd also be stupid. How many LEP owners would buy the DLC and how many would give FD the finger and never give them a cent? How many LEP people are there anyway, and what kind of signal does it send to everyone else? It would just anger tons of non-LEP owners like me. :)

You said "when", not "if". Freud would read a lot into that, just as I do.

FDev and stupid choices are past bedfellows - don't rule out more of the same later for profit just yet.

No idea how many LEP's there are - but anyone over £100 LS backers are ALSO part of that equation so not a small figure, but money is a powerful incentive to screw people you don't know.

Just another whiner in the wall

^^ He's spanish

Tell that to the Catalan's amigo.

They did say it was a 10-year plan. It looks like some paid-for content will be coming next year too, in addition to Beyond. A lifetime pass is always a risk. I chose the wait-and-see approach. I'll probably wind up spending more than you did.

Those other games should help FD to be more profitable, so it's a long-term investment to make sure they can continue to develop ED.

I see Planet Coaster as a huge success to the company (it´s a really good game, it makes a lot of fun) and the Dino-Thingie also looks promising. But this also looks like that priorities have shifted since its the only explanation for the slow development (besides the mentioned complexity).

Damn there are some strong emotions being displayed in this thread. I am getting the impression some here are that disillusioned with FD that if the company gave them $1,000,000 cash they would still come in here complaining that FD put them in a higher tax bracket!

Its one of the things with spacesims. Its always 'far from what it could be' because we will never stop dreaming more. You could see it at the expo too. PC folks were pleased because their fun game got some fun announcements, ED folks were raging across the chat because they wanted more than more. X:R got slammed. NMS got slammed. ED gets slammed all the time. SC will get slammed if it ever releases at all. At some point the spacesim community needs to take a step back and acknowledge that what we want may seem 'potential' but may actually just be unrealistic at the pace we demand.

This is where I had hoped my posts and threads showed a difference to the "general complainers" - I'm NOT asking for MORE than was asked - I'm just asking for ALL THAT WAS PROMISED 5 YEARS AGO.

That's it - if they throw in some DDF stuff too - bonus (and they should).

CqC & powerplay wasn't even mentioned in the KS, yet they took a year out to do it.
Xbone and PS4 compatibility also wasn't part of the KS layout and that was ANOTHER YEAR between the two lost.

This is the core of so much frustration, because FDev have a terrible habit of deviating from what was laid out, taking too long to do it, and it not being worth it in the end for a large majority of players anyway, and why they get called liars at the worst or mistrusted at the least whenever they say anything.

They did it to themselves.

So many FDev shareholders in this thread! I mean... You are shareholders, right? You didn't just buy a game and a dlc for something that is still being expanded and developed on, right? Because if you did, you wouldn't have any reason to complain and feeling entitled to anything... If you really think Elite as it is today (plus expansions to come next year) isn't worth what you paid, I think FDev should make you pay for any little feature they release just because you guys won't stop complaining anyway. Why not make some money on top, huh?

I've spent £170 on Elite, £50 on standard beta, £120 on the lifetime pass - I'd expect at least another 2 paid expansions to make it worth the extra investment (otherwise I could've just bought Horizons and got the exact same content for £80 less).

When they're happy to take £120 for a lifetime pass and they then invest that money in other games while neglecting the game that is still waiting for those lifetime passes to be fulfilled, Fdev shouldn't be surprised if they get some flak... (remember, Beyond does not count as a paid expansion).

Dont forget
when they changed the price for Horizons everyone who lost money were "gifted" with a Golden ASp paintjob!

That was concerning for me...

They did. More than 5 times on video, and live in Cologne 2 years ago. Stop playing the white knight.

Lol, you know that 'there is not a 10 year plan' is normally aimed against white knights? The general idea is that there isn't a 10-year plan, but there is intention to continue as long as possible, if possible even ten years. But the idea that FD knows exactly what they will do in 2023 when it comes to ED seems highly unlikely. And that has nothing to do with being a white, black or brown knight.

If you can link to these numerous video recordings that say otherwise, do share, because this keeps being discussed with little evidence going either way. :)

There are literarly tens of explanations with higher propability than slow down. Most likely FD decided to just add more to each update than they planned. In result they extended base game quite considerably. It is possible that it was planned Horizons delivery in one year, and after that season similar to Beyond, but they decided to pack it together (most likely PlayStation 4 release added to that).

TLDR big additions to base game which were planned after Horizons were rolled into Horizons release. Thus Horizons roll out were increased.

I, for one, welcome our new PS4 compatibility ;)

Agreed. I can't believe someone would bring up branching out to other platforms as a bad thing.

I also never understood the crowd-funders, saying things like "I was promised this" or "I didn't pay them to do that". It's funding, not an investment, FCOL. :D

+1. And the X-Box community as well. I don't know anyone from the PS4 world yet, but have several friends and teammates from the XB world. Even though we can't play in the same instance, we can work on mutual goals in the BGS. This is the endgame for me.

Even after googling that, I didn't know what you were talking about. After a bit of searching, it might mean X Rebirth. Looks like a good game and it's on sale. Got the complete edition for $12.49 on Steam. :)

Its a good game now, enjoy! It was horrendously broken on launch, to the point egosoft were solving issues for months by suggesting how to hexedit your save files. Took them a year to make the entire economy not collapse within hours and you had to restart after every patch. Fun times. :)

But as always they stuck with it and improved the game a lot, and its easily worth the price now. Same with NMS btw. :)

What are these huge additions that took a year and were not part of the plan?
