I forgot how to dock and fight...

After 200.000 LY of exploring and 6 Months in deep space I have to confess that I entirely lost my fighting skills and mechanics and even the docking procedures that were entirely automatic before.
I am very afraid of being attacked before I can safely dock at Colonia in 3 Months.
How can I solve this? Any help?
Can I book an fighter wing to safely pull me in then?

I was out for 18 months and totally forgot how to dock. So I did the docking tutorial over and over untill I got it right. However that's in a sidewinder. Even so it was a white knuckle affair landing my asp. My hands were literally shaking.
As far as fighting... just run till you sell your data. Why risk it?
Once I got back and sold then I went out and bought a Vulture and did some combat stuff.
And yes there are wing groups that help explorers.

Not exact answer for my questions, but I guess there will be plenty of people ready to help you as mentioned. Good luck man! [up]

11 months out on my first exploration trip and I was the same. I just first looked at my controls and reviewed simple youtube docking videos to know the basics. Got in just fine. Approach the base/station/terminal etc, get in range get out of SC when told to do so, fly under 7.5km and then go into your Contacts Menu and request docking from the station and cut your power to 0 throttle, then just manually thrust your way to the docking bay with your landing gear on.

It may be slower than when you were used to it, but at least you can get your first dock and get your exploration data sold off. After that it'll all come right back to you...

Unless you are carrying cargo, Pirates won't bother to attack you now.
You might get interdicted, but if you do, they just scan you, see that you are empty and leave you alone.
I usually don't give them a chance to scan and just boost away and re-engage FSD.

Iridium wing will escort you if you are the type that only plays in Open.
Colonia has a local defense force also that I believe you can ask for an escort.

As for the docking, well, just make sure you remember to ask for docking permission, go slow and put full pips to shields in case you bump into anything.
It'll come back to you. The hardest part is remembering to ask for docking permission.

Hello, I am playing solo. I stripped my Anaconda at Colonia when I started from any all but one weapon and all shields.
When I arrived at Colonia I was attacked by a NPC.
So I guess this is what will happen the next time.
Tutorial is of course a good idea.

From a few patches ago the NPCs should leave you alone if you have no cargo.
I've been in and out of Colonia a few times recently and the AI ignored me.

Been out for a while in the past and usually sometimes forget the small stuff like combat and docking as well. Taking an Anaconda to Beagle Point, so in preparation outfitted the ship and walah...I had an extra slot on the ship, so I put in a docking computer, why not, it weighs nothing and I don't like running with empty slots. So now I won't have to worry about docking so much when I need to land after the months it will take to get to the wizard at Beagle......

Just don't enter inhabitted space in open. Ever. Go solo or private grp like FleetComm.

Unless you believe in immersion. Then you can fly in open. To be honest, the only places you really have to worry about being ganked are at CGs, so don't go to CG. I flew back to the bubble with 6 months of data on the SHEPARD Mission in Open - came back late at night with a small wing of trusted cmdrs. Having someone there is nice to because they can provide a 100-chaff solute! It was fine. And now especially with our huge jump ranges, you really only go to 1-2 inhabited systems before reaching your target arrival system (in our case Sol). If you like to fly in open for immersion like me, there are people that can provide a assistance [Irridium Wing is most popular].

Jameson Memorial in the Founder's system (Shinrarta Dezhra) is another hotspot, although not as dangerous as CG locations.

You shouldn't really consider fighting until you get back and change into something more suitable!

Try diverting to a much quieter outpost nearby to cash in your data. And go in Solo, bug out at the first sign of any trouble!

You can book a fighter wing.

I got back to the bubble just recently from a similar trip and if anything I'm better at fighting than before... I seem to have lost some bad habbits and for some reason have got better and fixed on my FDL - weird!

Oh and I had similar reservations about docking at a Coriolis so I found a planetary outpost (Amundsen) and landed there, I am guessing you've done a few landings on your travels?
