Panther Clipper - What Are You Expecting?

If they're going to add the Panther I hope they're not going for this concept art look.

It needs more defined angles. The bridge placement is all wrong. There should be 4 rotating directional thrusters, not 2. It doesn't look a whole lot like the original from Elite 2. It needs to be more rough and brutish and less sleek.

What trading nerf? The bulk tax?

Not sure what you mean by Bulk Tax. But margins are waaaaay down on what they were 18 months ago. ResSeps>ProgCells for example. An ABA on those used to bring in 4500-5000+ per unit. Now I need to go to Imperial Space and deal in slaves to make that margin.

IF any routes are available above 5000.

The benefit of taking a year off playing Elite. When you pick it up again, there are many, many "What Exactly is With That?" moments.

Assuming every player doesn't experience those everyday, anyway of course.

Not holding my breath but a ship with twelve (12) huge/large optional module slots. A ship requiring two (2) FSD modules to get its hulking mass into witch-space and two shield generators to protect its bulk would be interesting. A ship so large it does not fit through the mail-slot and requires the use of cargo-ferries (and time) to load and unload cargo. A ship so massive it has eight (8) hard-points. A ship with ten (10) utility slots for all the shield boosters it will need. A ship in which I can carry two Eagles around to use as SLFs, using 2 of its 12 optional module slots for hangars. o7

Ignore the keelback.. Did the devs ever comment on why they used an image of a ship that looks like the Panther. Image was released a little before horizons rolled out.

I had this pointed out the other day.

If that is the Panther it's a baby. Look at the cockpit size, puts it in the same class size as a T7.

If the Panther is any smaller than the width and height of the Letterbox, the length and breadth of a Large Pad, I think I might boost my Cobra mkIII into the Pilots Federation Headquarters.

What my hopes for with the Panther Clipper is like in the older Elite game if my memory serves me right, is you must have a crew to fly this beast. Either players multicrew or NPC crew, now that would make this ship something special. :D

This or some other yet to come feature which the ship will maybe have is about the only reason I can think about why it hasn't been released yet and the only hope that it wasn't just silently canned. I want the Panther, I want it for 3 years now, and there's nothing.

Trading profits have had a massive increase in payouts, difference now is you need to trade based on system state. Haven't done basic A-B-A trading for a while, wasn't aware that profits had decreased.

IMO the game could definitely do with a larger trade ship for mission running, currently I am limited to only accept two high capacity missions in My T9 (180 tonnes per mission) Can bump that up to three missions in my Cutter. The need for more capacity has been in game for as long as I can remember, it's not like we are allowed to operate multiple ships like in the X series.

Bulk tax has been around for a few years, maybe since early beta - Rather than explain, here's a link https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/94076-Bulk-Sale-Fee-Hidden-Tax-For-Traders

Aaaah, gotcha. I've always gone on Credits per Hour when running ABA's. And funnily enough have swapped to Boom Time Missions at Allied Stations recently after acquiring a Cutter. ;-)

"It's coming", 2014. Three years later and still on its way. But hey! it is only a few CGs away!

I actually like that design. But since it is supposed to be "like a big brother of Type 9", I guess we already know its design, which seems to be a copy-paste of T9.

The T-10 seems to be a copy of the T9 (With a few extra bits bolted on) The devs confirmed we will get the original Panther back in game. The Panther is not deigned by Lakon.

T-10 is not Panther, we saw it during Thargoids snippet during FX. It is just more bulkier T-9 with more of...everything. Looks badass.

As for Panther and it's function afaik market does not work that way to balance it for such huge hauls....yet. It is possible in future, fingers crossed.

I would expect to Panther Clipper to be "balanced" into a dull freighter with very little to recommend it.
Really hope not but...
Maybe the only USP will be the cargo capacity. I fondly remember my FE2 Panther with its uber shields and turreted plasma cannons.
Happy days

We need npc crew to become a thing for many ships, not just the Panther Clipper.
For example:
In Frontier Elite II the Python had a crew of 7.
The Asp Explorer had a crew of 2.
The Imperial Courier had a crew of 3.
The Anaconda had a crew of 10.
The Panther Clipper had a 12 man crew.

NPC crew gameplay could add a lot to the game.

That's reason why FD does not say anything at all. Everything will be dug up and put on display with 'Shame' soundtrack from GoT.
Are you always on duty? The other day I checked reddit (something I never do), and there you were, replying to every single critical post I saw. Not kidding, every single one.

The 'shame' soundtrack is not because the ship has taken three years and counting to actually come, but the many times the sentence is being uttered without showing its fruits. There are so many things that are permanently 'coming', and so many totally different things arriving instead and when something that was coming was supposed to arrive, it arrives (after delays and delays), anticlimactically and bugged. Add to that the shift from "its coming" to the "no ETA, no guarantees" and then you could understand why this is tragicomic (more tragic than comic). I seriously want the game to succeed, and I do believe Frontier is really trying to fix things (patently ineffectively though). But go ahead, blame the silence on the customers, because apparently, there is no way to change your assumption that Frontier is quiet because we don't appreciate their work. They are quite because they realized that over promising is backfiring hard now, three years after release.

That's good to know! I was disappointed when I saw the T10 being so similar to the T9, and Braben's statement seemed to suggest that that would be it. Then I guess the wait will continue [noob]

In Braben and Fdevs defence.

Coming does not include a notion of when, just that it is.
Totally agree. Although, in some contexts, it could imply that its coming soon, since one cannot utter the same proposition forever. In other words, there are relatively reasonable uses of it. But this is not a discussion that I think would be productive. In any case, I agree.

I'm expecting a super heavy cargo ship, a large number of class 8s for cargo and a fighter, since it's a ZP ship I think it will have a decent shield strength(for a cargo ship so like 600mj without boosters ), 25LYish jump range and since it has decent shield strength for defense I imagine it has a few large hard points and 5 utilities to help defend it
