Towards Triple Elite

Hey folks :) I know this isn't really the place to post this, BUT I'd rather deal with the people here than elsewhere.

I'm currently working my last Elite rank, which is --ugh-- Combat. Though I'm not a fan of combat, I enjoyed my multiplayer combat sessions so far, and since I'll have a LOT of sessions (42% Master atm), I thought I'd open 'em to anyone currently working their Combat way up, or farming for monees, or just wanting to have some combat fun with someone who won't be saying "git gud" every 5 minutes. I'm not that kind of combat pilot at all, so... Beginners wanting to train or make some bucks with combat are welcome.

I'm piloting an engineered Conda, "Maintenance Bot" (that thing below) (Coriolis here), so I can protect'cha if needed.

I am currently fighting in a Compromised Nav Beacon (small ships, high ranks), in JULUNG. The next door Coriolis station with all services is in PYEMMAIRRE, 400ls from the drop point, and there's a High Intensity CZ less than 1ls from that starport.

I'll be playing all afternoon today, most of this weekend, and about everyday when I get home from work, around 6PM to 8PM GMT+1 (France).

Also currently playing in FleetComm, so I reckon a bunch o'ya are already there and are aware of the Rules (PVE only!).

If interested, just look me up ("Qohen Leth") and come along :)

Good idea. I'd recommend sticking a hangar bay on there, preferably a 6D. No need for that fuel scoop and/or a second 6A SCB. (With that shield generator, do you even need to use them?) Even an NPC-piloted SLF will give you the equivalent of a huge hardpoint's firepower, but you can also get other Commanders to crew up with you. (Hence the 6D bay, because it has two slots. You can launch one Commander + one NPC, or two Commanders.) Plus it's much easier to find crewmates than it is to find wingmates.
Actually, I'd like to come along too, but can only do so via MC.

However, it's an either-or affair. You can't wing up and have multicrew going at the same time.

The fuel scoop is useful, cause with a jr of 25ly I'd rather move it around the bubble myself :p

The extra SCB was more of a filler, so I swapped a fighter bay instead. I just only had crappy MC experience so far, so... Hopefully that'll change. Anytime for a MC session!

EDIT: 2 MC slots open now :) (imp fighter, 2x Gimballed Beams)

Don't fly with a co pilot if you're grinding towards Elite. They take some of your ranks, making the grind longer.

One suggestion (or two) for your build, Qohen. Maybe swap the weapon sizes around. Efficient beams with thermal vent are excellent for popping small ships. So, placing beams on top and big-ship-destroying weapons on the bottom is generally a faster way to blow all the things up.
Personally I prefer the FDL for mass murder, as it's powerful enough to take out anything if you have engineers and it's crazy fast compared to something like the Conda. The speed is really useful to get to the next target a few seconds faster. You're after all working on killing thousands, so, every second saved per kill is thousands of seconds saved in the end. :D

Best of luck, and my sympathies, as I am in pretty much the same boat so to speak. I'm at 62% combat and plodding along. I fit my Corvette with all energy weps so I can sit in a CNB for hours or until my brain fries. :)

I'm too far away time zone wise to play with you, although I must admit that might be fun. I've not done much in the way of multiplayer and stay mostly in Mobius_PvE and Solo.

Again, best of luck!

...one last annoying reply \o/
Not changing weapons of your choice, this is probably how I'd set a Conda up for CZ or nav beacon mass murder. Cut a lot of weight (hull, plant, life, sensors, fuel capacity, SCB's out), get the shields fast regenerating and replace all non-boost util with shield boosters. The thruster boost speed goes up by 22 m/s. It's roughly the set up I have on my Vette. The shields should be big enough to keep you safe against a wing of three of something, as long as you kill them fast enough. :D I've left one SCB in there for you as an insurance, the weight penalty isn't noticeable on that.

Though I appreciate the replies, I can't help but notice how outfitting advice were not asked for :)

And I know that wings/MC shared the rank -- if the point was to rank faster, I wouldn't be inviting other people ;)

Hm, I didn't know about the rank reduction. However, given that you'll kill faster with SLFs out, wouldn't that offset it? (Then there's the bonus of more credits.) Well, unless you are running out of targets, in which case you might want to move to a more dangerous area anyway.

Haven't noticed much of a slowdown when mass-killing with one wingmate, tbh. Targets respawn usually fast enough in CNBs... which means we can try and kill faster!

Yeah ,spawn rate adapts to the size of a wing in an instance. A wing of 4 will get a lot of large NPC wings to deal with. Which actually helps you ranking faster. Regarding the SLF's, I did try t ogive one a fair chance over a couple months, costing me over 100 million. It did not feel like it helped, I felt like I was spending more time keeping the SLF alive rather than blowing things up. :)

The respawn should be plenty fast. I basically kill everything I can catch and by the time I'm done, more ships are spawning. It can get to be a bit much at times TBH. :)

Oh yeah, I only have them now for other humans, god, never an AI.

I know! If no ships aorund, just get back closer to the beacon, they're just pewpewing a bit farther.

Yesterday I took out a wing of Elite Conda + 3 Clippers, which though they're longer to kill than Eagles, are often much less annoying to finish off. Starting to curse at those """"""""Elite""""""""" Vipers chaffing and chaffing for a good 3 minutes while I spin and spin and spin until they finally let themselves be killed.

I'm just trying to enjoy the grind and not use Netflix or YouTube for once :p

42% Master...oh...ouch...I won't tell you.

One of my accounts stalled at 1% Deadly for a good reason. Mind you, if you've the patience for extreme exploring, I'm sure you'll make it, albeit missing a shred of sanity. Your triple Elite will definitely be deserved! Good luck.

I am in pretty much the same situation, and it started when I "just" wanted to unlock Lori Jameson. Right now, I keep doing a bit of ratting at a CNB every now and then.
Being a fan of style and thick skins, I keep using my dear old Cutter "Menelaos" with Long Range Burst Lasers for it: https://eddp.co/u/KQVyoUle

100 million? Whoa. How many rebuys was that?
And good to know about the spawn rate adapting to the size of a wing. That would help rank faster, yeah. Unfortunately, getting a full wing is quite difficult. But then I guess the only advantage of SLFs is that with two Commanders, it might still be faster than solo, and that you can find other players much easier.

@ Qohen Leth: Higher-level NPC crew actually become pretty good at handling the fighter, but it's a pain to get them there.
Well, you didn't ask for build advice, but if you're having trouble with enemies using too much chaff, I'd recommend a fixed huge beam laser. That takes care of the small ones pretty quickly.

Just dropped you a request. The kids are at the parents-in-law this weekend, so I should be able to get only more often.
I don't care much about the rank, but one of the engineers is locked behind combat rank, so Why not advance a bit.

Also, why not fight the 'Goids?

That's not rebuys, that's the salary my NPC co-pilot took for "helping"..

My first co-pilot took just over 200M credits. Between that and his incessant, nonsense chatter, I threw him out the air-lock and now hire one when I'm taking the Corvette out, and fire him when I dock. :)
