Where is the post-FX communication?

We will not be getting earth like planets anytime soon. That will take years to do. You will be disapointed if you think it is coming.

Coming soon to Elite Beyond on a planet near you...

Yes I have seen that. That is Jurassic World Evolution, not elite dangerous. And as it is still in development, I very much doubt any of that will be ported over to ED any time soon. Maybe in a few years time, but not in the next 6 months.

That will not be coming in the Beyond series of updates. When/if it does come, it will be paid for content.

But keep dreaming. I hope you don't get too disapointed.

Same engine. No need for any porting over to ED. They just drag and drop the objects that are already generated and in use.

Um, no, both games are based on Frontiers Cobra engine but they are very different code bases. You can't just trade assets between the two at will!

The best predictor of future behaviour is.. wait for it.. past behaviour..

In other words things aren't likely to change.

While generally a truism, it's not a rule. Communication used to be much better with Frontier. Just look at the old newsletters chock full of juicy development details. Something changed along the way and as Dale says, they're looking at ways to get back to it.

Ed's just confirmed on the livestream that the Ant Ross Stellar Forge talk will be livestreamed next week and there's gonna be a feedback livestream with Sandy the week after. Feedback on what is an interesting question ... Ed seemed to hint that we'd know when the time came!

Exciting!

Ey up! Who could have predicted this? Ruh-roh, what could it beeeee!?

Nah, I'm being an idiot... like I said the plan was to do more of those kinds of streams and bring the juicy content reveals and details forward, I just can't confirm what those are yet because honestly I don't know. I know what we'd like to do, but the decision has to be mutually agreed by all involved.

If I said "Hey, we're going to show x every week until the date of y through z medium" before it's been fully agreed on, the folks who are meant to produce x will likely kick me in the binary star system. We understand what most of you like to see so we'll do our best to provide. Whilst, of course, preventing my binary stars from imploding.

tl;dr
Communicating by doing (instead of talking) is most appreciated in my book!

Yes that's certainly appreciated. Too many bugs (the 2.0 scanram & rotisserie AI bugs come to mind, as do many mission board exploits) are left in for far too long that they become the new norm.

If FDev just fix them, no problem. If they clearly communicate that they are unintended behaviour but cannot be quickly fixed, less ideal but okay. SNAFU just creates frustration.

You could say to the Devs-step forward whoever wants to do a livestream this week......then have everyone but the person you already picked take a step back ;).

In the defense of Adam & Dominic, they are often very quick to admit unintended problems with missions.....& every time we hear from MoM, it leaves me with a mixture of joy & dread.

It depends on your personal irritating bug (or feature) of choice. If there is a particular bug or exploit that you regularly rage against and nothing is mentioned or done the frustration builds. If your particular bug is quickly addressed then you are happy.

It's similar with requested features. If a Cmdr had been urgently awaiting CQC or being able to change their flightsuit since launch they would be happy as Larry. If they have been waiting for atmospheric landings and were only told 'it's something we could do' they might be less impressed.

Squeeeeeeeeeee! (now I really can't sleep)

I want sufficient evidence for the grand jury to indite the persons who greenlighted Power Play and Engineers. :)

The engineers is a great add on to ED, unfortunately it was not given the right amount of time to be as good as it could be.

Heavily relying on RNG was wrong, the UI for the tweaking was utterly a mistake on so many levels I don't know where to start, but the idea was great.

Same applies to PP, a good idea, however just not fleshed out enough.

Regarding MoM, not knowing her in person, my impression is that she is very competent and need to balance on the edge of a knife.

She is also human and make mistakes, however that is why I wish that CQC could be a part of the main game, and bots added to it. Let's get some that is as good as they can be without cheating.

I think problem is that without randomness, Engineers would be just another way to upgrade. People would do same thing as they do now - forcefully grind themselves to death of fun to get items they desire.

I really don't know if any crafting solution would help us here.

What I agree though that too much randomness has been involved, and it felt alienating - to me too to be honest - and thankfully FD got our feedback and reacted to it.

Now when Engineers will have always positive upgrade it means it is nice, yet unpredictable upgrade shop. And that's how it should have been since beginning.

Also add Engineer missions, etc. more interactions with them.

Frontier Expo covered a lot that we wanted to talk about and while we want to go into more details about the features announced it's only been a couple of weeks since the expo. Development takes time, but more will come! The design/dev team are keen on taking community feedback and incorporating that into the features. We want to do this in a very targeted and meaningful way that will give the most impact to the dev team and allow for that feedback loop to be really effective.

I apologise if what I said set the wrong expectation. It's possible I wasn't clear enough with my communication there, and that's my bad! We definitely don't want people jumping to conclusions and being expectant without cause, but at the same time we want to let you know that we want to create this awesome content to give you insights into what's coming. It's not been forgotten or abandoned, it just has to be done in line with what the development team do, as it requires a lot of their time too.

So... the plan was, and still is, to have deep-dive livestreams to go into various parts of ED's. Logistics of making this happen need to balance with the needs of the development team to work on the game. As an example, the "How to make a Galaxy" talk at FX by Ant Ross is a great one - especially since it's highly requested from the community - looking at how Stellar Forge was made. These kinds of talks and presentations take a solid chunk of time, so we have to be careful not to do this at critical times for the team(s) involved.

We've still got content coming over the 2.4 period. There will be some weeks that are busier than others so I will be cheeky and ask for your patience on this a little further on this. [big grin] As ever, we'll keep you updated on the latest happenings through our usual channels; here on the forums, livestreams, social media, or if you're in shouting distance we'll do that too!

Hey Dale
Thanks for the answer and your effort, I hope the community appreciates your activity over the last weeks and months. However, it's just not good enough, sorry. Large parts of your post could be easily replaced by some other marketing gibberish. It's about time that you guys get tangible. I fully understand that it's not your fault, if you don't have something to announce you don't have something to announce, simple as that. But communication about actual features, development and the future sucks since the very beginning of the game and it's about time FDEV changes something about it - and if it's just to make the forum a better place...

"Development takes time, but more will come!"
Guess what? We hear that sentence since 2014. And while it's true that some of it 'has come' it's also true that lots of it was Multicrew, Powerplay, CQC and some other fails that could've been avoided by talking to your loyal fans and customers.

We want to do this in a very targeted and meaningful way that will give the most impact to the dev team and allow for that feedback loop to be really effective.
So far it hasn't been targeted and meaningful at all. In fact it was nonexistent. When is that 'really effective feedback loop' going to start? Or is it a closed circle rather than a loop...? How can it be effective when you don't talk to us up until 2 weeks before you release the next half-baked feature? The time to gather feedback on Beyond features is now, not during beta. Use the beta to fix bugs, not the game!

Sorry for sounding harsh, but I guess that's part of the burden you got to carry as community manager. Anyway, you and FDEV have my respect for creating the game that we all love, it would just be nice if you could actually get in that feedback loop rather than just talking about it.
Thanks,
babel
