One way hyperspace travel?

Hi,

Early backer of Elite, but just getting started actually playing and I've managed to get myself a bit stuck.

Basically I've been happily hyperspacing between systems but now am trying to retrace my steps and, one of the jumps I performed on my way out (I think between star systems named something like Anvil and Riedquat) doesn't seem to be possible on the way back.

On the Galaxy map, the route only appears if I set cargo to less than 2 tonnes but, even after jettisoning all my cargo, I'm still unable to select the star system from the navigation computer.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Some system tend to disappear from the menu so you cant choose them as target.
Try and jump to another closer system and then back and maybe it will show up.
Or some people had said a relog will help as well.
And some have said you can select the system in the universe map.

Did you buy something in your way?

Pay attention at the tons you take because the distance you can fly is affected by your total weight

I've seen a lot of threads like this on the forum...

Obviously if you flew in empty, then bought cargo, this will make your ship heavier, and lower your max hyperspace distance.

From what I understand, even adding weapons etc will add weight to your ship. Did you upgrade any systems on your ship before trying to fly back?

However, if you are trying to fly out at the same weight as you flew in... then post a ticket.

I had a thought about this issue, not tried it yet. However, consider that you need to fly from the system star to planet point if interest. What if that extra distance moved you just over the hyperspace limit from he star you just came from? Have you tried super cruising towards the target jump star for a little bit before hype hyperspacing?

Try looking in the galaxy map sometimes a route is available there that isn't in through the menu.

EDIT - sorry you said you did that but you can select the destination from the galaxy map and still jump to it. I think it's a bug that some destinations within range don't appear through the menu.

If your not already out of modules and weapons, you could try that - sell a module, downgrade ship armor or sell a weapon. This will dramatically increase your jump range.

Hi Vikinger,

I have jumped to the closest system I can find (and the only one where a route is shown to the destination system in the Galaxy map).

What's a 'relog'?

Cheers

Hi ASQ_dak,

This is a good idea but, as I'm unable to see the destination star system in the navigation menu, there's no way for me to know in which direction to travel.

Hi Half Giant,

Is there a way to lock / initiate hyperspace from the Galaxy map? I've not been able to find it if there is.

As suggested, I can see the destination system in the Galaxy map (with blue travel route) and can highlight it, but when I return to the cockpit navigation menu, it doesn't appear as a target.

If you click on a star system in the Galaxy Map you are setting it as your jump target. Simply exit the Galaxy map and press the Hyperspace/Super-cruise button and it will happen.

You lock in the galaxy map by clicking the destination. It should then have a cone icon above it. Then fly to align with it as normal. For me I initiate hyperspace with 'J' but I can't remember if that is a custom key. If yours isn't 'J' check your Options, Controls.

BTW I had the same thing but when I went to jump it said something about using more than 0.8 tons on fuel. So went back and sold my weapons then I could make the jump. Before and after selling the weapons the route wasn't available through the menu but was in galaxy map.

Sometimes destination don't show up on the navigation selection. Even if it shows up in the galaxy map and says you are able to do the jump whit the cargo you have. And il guess its a bug.
Whit a relog I mean you quit and save the game and log back in. And that can help to sort it out.

Just a few tip.

Don't forget to refill your fuel at a station so you have 100%. If you don't have fuel you cant make the jump.

Jumps is calculated dependant what ship you are flying.
There is a max range for every ship, bigger ships can jump further.

It shortens the range dependant how much cargo you have and also to a small degree what equipment you have installed. Weapons etc.

To se how far you can jump go to the galaxy map. select navigation tab.

You will se in what system you currently are and connections to other system that is in your jump range.

If you se filled straight line between 2 systems you are able to do the jump whit the amount of cargo you have.
If the line is dashed, you are able to reach those systems but you need to do more than 1 jump.

There is a slider at the bottom as well where you can select amount of cargo and changing that will tell you how much cargo you can max have to do the jump.

Rennard / Half Giant,

Thanks for the heads-up. I am playing on a Oculus Rift DK2 which has to be running in extended mode for E:D to display. Unfortunately, this means is a bit quirky with the mouse to the point that, if I try mouse clicking on anything in the Galaxy map the E:D app loses focus and I lose the display (have to remove the Oculus and click back on the E:D icon).

I have tried a bunch of other "select" commands (enter, spacebar, etc) but nothing seems to "lock" it in or move an icon above it. That said, I didn't know that function existed so I'll have another try tonight.

Thanks again.

Hi Vikinger/Simon853

I always refill at each space-station I dock at (do prices of fuel vary? - I've not checked) so was definitely at 100% and I had jettisoned all my cargo and had not bought anything new for my Sidewinder (literally just started).

Didn't try restarting but will find out tonight if it solves the issue.

Cheers!

Just to confirm, when I restarted E:D the destination star system did appear in my navigation list so re-logging / re-starting the game should resolve this bug.

Furthermore, navigation from the galaxy chart (especially now I've discovered the trade routes display) rocks.

Thank you all for your help.

I have found that:-
Some systems don't appear in the Galaxy map until you highlight a close by system.
Stripping the ship down i.e. No weapons or other addons allow you to maxamise the jump distance.
Try exploring instead of trading to start with, tons of gold to be had and no distractions i.e. No pirates(mostly) and no other players around whilst you pick up the booty ( black markets at lawless stations)
I managed to go from a sidewinder to a 6 in two days (30 lyr jump in a strpped 6)
Good luck

Note that fuel also has mass and will therefore also affect jump range.

In Sidewinder and Hauler at least it's 2.00t full Main Tank, with at most 0.8t used for a jump.

So, if you did a 2 hop route to a destination you'd have had < 2.00t fuel before making the second jump. If you now fill up on fuel so you have 2.00t it's possible you can't make the jump back due to too much mass.

Given you can make 2-4 jumps (depending on the distance) on a single tank, one thing to try is jumping to, and back from, any OTHER star in range, to see if you can then make the original 'jump back'.

Yes, FD need to give us a way to choose how much fuel is in the tank when at stations, not just a "fill 'er up".
