Cancel Button Please?!?

Amazingly, they never implemented a button for ECM (until recently), but this jettison all cargo button, used by.... who exactly? has been in the game since launch.

I've used it when cargo hauling to not only confuse the player who was pirating/murdering me but to significantly increase my jump range so I could choose a much more distant system to jump to, saving my bacon nicely.

And it forking happened again! Thought I'd at least try and participate in the CG. So, got me some more Cmdr Soylents, got myself to about the same place I was yesterday and then decided to activate the external camera to look around. Next thing I know, there goes my cargo again! [Mutters under breath] Only thing that saved some of my cargo was "combat" logging. Turns out that one of my camera mode buttons combinations was similar to another eject cargo combination. :/ Needless to say, that got quickly fixed. Of course, just before I lost my cargo, I discover the CG has ended, but what a waist of a session! The Space-Gods clearly hate me!

Op you could use the functions menu and power down the cargo hatch. If I remember correctly this also foils hatch breaker limpets.

I reckon the "jettison all" button should be a double press, like dropping out of SC at speed. That should prevent 99% of these accidents.

If that works the same way the "emergency stop" button does, it probably isn't going to be much use.

I couldn't count the amount of times I've seen the "too fast for normal cruise. Press twice for emergency stop" message WHILE the SC dropout animation is happening.

At first I thought, maybe, I was accidentally pressing the "exit SC" button twice or something but, after a bit of deliberate experimentation, it seems that it just flat-out doesn't need the double-press to do an "emergency stop" at all. [where is it]

Most common scenario is that I'll be landed on the surface of a planet, I'll take off, realise that my destination is obscured by the planet, jump to SC to leave orbit, get to a point where I can see my destination and then I'll have a brain-fart and hit the SC button again and I'll immediately do an "emergency stop".

But, erm, yep.
Don't even think I have keys assigned to any of the "drop cargo" functions.
If I want to do it, I can do it from the right HUD.
And it's not easy to do that accidentally.

*EDIT*

Are we sure the OP isn't carrying anything corrosive and his problems are the result of corrosive damage to the cargo hatch?
He seems to be having this problem a helluva lot.

O MY GOD THIS IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED BUT IT'S SO MUCH BETTER!!! XD XD XD

I feel sincerely sorry for you OP, I truly do, but that's hilarious! XD XD

Okay, okay, I've calmed down now! haha!

I thought reading the title that this would be in regards to the "launch" button on pads. I often find myself accidentally clicking it, or clicking it then deciding I want to check/do something before I leave. If I click "enter hangar" I still have full control over my menus, but if I hit "launch" from within the hangar I have to be force to watch the animation? Why?... And why can't I cancel the action during that time, the game could just override the "launch" command with a "return to surface" command mid-animation surely?

Although for different reasons, I support your idea for a "nevermind" button.

Don't even have the jettison function mapped, on the very rare occasions when I do have to get rid of cargo I go through the inventory menu on the RH panel - can't make a mistake there :D

Gonna have to seriously disagree with that last statement - I can make a mistake in any user interface!

Great story OP, and I have full sympathy for you.
I'm keyboard only (with clumsy fingers), and have witnessed my cargo exiting stage left several times until it dawned on me how to un-map the key :D

Yep. I'm 100% it had nothing to do with corrosive cargo. The first incident was me accidentally hitting the [End] key. Voice Attack wasn't working and I had to rely on good ol' fashioned keyboard presses. The next two incidents were caused by the fact that I had, apparently, a combo press on my joystick that was mapped closely to my camera view controls. So, when I went into external mode, I ejected my cargo instead of going into free-look. All of which has been corrected, including getting VA working again...

Actually, I phrased it the way I did because I was thinking of more than just a "Cancel Eject" button. I know we can cancel the Frame-shift, as well as, other actions, but, yes, there are a few that, for whatever reason, we can't. It'd be nice if they were all covered.

We can dream... ;)

I wouldn't mind this being a "press twice" thingie - not that I ahve it bound but it would save grief for some people.

The "cancel" button I'd really like to have is on ship launching - the number of times the animation has started and I have realised I didn't buy something (or similar) - I'd love to have been able to abort the launch rather than leave and dock again.

Yes, please!

Deleted that keybind myself. I don' jettison anything for anyone. Not for pirates, not for Thargoids.
My cargo is my cargo until it is paid for, then it's someone else's problem.

The one thing I would LOVE to be able to cancel is a Ship Dismiss. Talk about annoying... I've lost track of how many times I've accidentally dismissed my ship after getting in a really good landing spot at the Alien Ruins, only to have to drive 2 Km away from them since they're now considered Settlements and you can't recall within them.
