Playing on Xbox today, I was seeing how remote release flak launchers work. (Not great. Stick to your missile for ease of use)

The weapons aren't the topic. I decided to try a new flying style in my Cobra. See, I have always flown my ship like an airplane. Banking into rolls, loops, etc...

Flying like an aircraft, my shields weren't staying up, bogeys were hitting me constantly.

Today, I made a change. I swapped the rolls for yaw, and lateral... And it made a huge difference! I was dodging loads, my shields were staying up, and I was landing hits everywhere!

The Cobra handled the fight brilliantly, against a target that historically, I really struggled against.

I think tonight was a turning point. Didn't even need chaff!

Lateral thrust (and throttle control) make a huge difference. I use a dual-stick setup with lateral thrust and throttle controls in my left hand, and attitude control in my right. Both sticks are constantly moving when I'm fighting. :3

I dont know any Xbox control setup but id map the FAO Very close to the Boost button... you can make 180º turns in 0.3 secs

I use all of the thrusters and will often just use a random move; especially against fixed weapons.

I will say that confidence, has to be 80% of the battle's success.
