Ship Sales For Profit

Would there be interest in for a section of the shipyard where CMDR's can build and sell ships to other players?

Example: A seasoned CMDR can put an FDL on the market. The ship is built and engineered for PvP with several modded components onboard. Fixed weapons and enhanced thrusters.

Example: An explorer puts up a AspX for sale with G5 FSD and 55 LY jump range.

Base price of the ships for sale would be assessed by the hull value + total component value + engineered module value. This would be the minimum sale price and the ship could not be sold for less. The CMDR could add any amount on top of that for his commission.

Then the ship is advertised to all. You could have two methods to sell. One, first-come first-served, whoever pays the asking price first gets it -or- silent auction. If you want it, you put in the price you want to pay and if that is the highest amount, you get it.

This lets players who do not have a background in PvP, exploration, mining, etc a way to get a dedicated ship for that purpose.

-ALSO- A CMDR can advertise to have a ship build for them. "Wanted, DBS silent running engineered combat vessel for 50 mil credits." Wanted: Dedicated pirate vessel with hatchbreaker and collector limpet controllers. Price negotiable." Those would be handled through a private sale.

I guess it would be great for people that like to see a player market in Elite (and there are many). I don't. I had played enough games with player trading to dislike it.

.... it would also permit a form of credit transfer (sell low and buyer sells for full price or sell ridiculously high compared to value of ship) and also complete avoidance of unlocking and ranking up with Engineers, gathering materials and Engineering ones own modifications.

Another case for "no".

You want engineers? You have to work like everyone.

No thanks to ship market.

Would rather have developer resources (labor, time, testing) allocated to items that yet to be delivered.

Fixes:
Cure for the beige plague
A return to more interesting planet surfaces.

New Items:
Atmospheric landings
Movement within my ship?
Space Legs?
Other options for SRV
Improved crime and Punishment system

The galaxy doesn't even have cheese. A lot of more critical items are missing.

On the plus side, the selling CMDR could be in voice contact with the buyer and let him know exactly when the ship will be up for sale. A pre-arraigned dollar transaction can be done through paypal or something, let's say $20.00. The ship goes on the market and is immediately bought by the buyer.

Easy-peesy. What could go wrong?

The real issue here.

I was thinking about your post. Imagine a Britan with only new car salesmen, repair garages, and modification shops.

Not a used car dealer in the entire world. Not one!

This does seem like something that would be natural to add even if it was all virtually database generated and didn't involve human-to-human interaction.

I still feel that developer resources are better spent on other game aspects.

Yes please. I was heavily invested in the Forza franchise years ago and the Auction House was a big part of it. I can't see it happening in this game, but I would welcome it if it did.

just get off your backside and go engineer, the time you spent writing this thread you could have modified something.

and what with "beyond" promises of engineering an engineered module will always improve it the whole RNG should hopefully be a thing of the past and time invested will be actually rewarded <-- these are the things I want developers spending their time on not some silly market the unemployed can make a quick few £££ (tax free) for sitting on their hindquarters playing ED all day because they forgot what the outside world looked like and promoting the shambles of a RNG what engineers currently is.

/thread

In short, it's just not going to happen. Build your own ships, engineer your own ships. Fly your own ships.

I'm imagining a scenario where farmers grind for god rolls and unofficially sell ships irl for cash. This makes PvP pay to win.

No thanks.

I agree that heavily engineered modules should bring in more credits when sold.... which might give more incentive to farm for mods etc or what ever... but beyond that, no

I've got a few 0A Shield Boosters with 65% HD mods and a 7A Thruster DDT engineered to 140%. I'll trade them for another Corvette to store in my future Carrier bay.

it would be cooler if you could gather the material and build the ship and parts yourself and sell it (cough cough) eve
