From now on never change anything...

...or improve anything, because there is somebody who likes it as it is.
Those expressing their satisfaction with things are probably more valuable than those raising valid concerns. If there were no "its OK as is" comments, you would be left with a list of..... change everything

Yes, never change anything about the forums - I like the way that everyone is dissatisfied with everything. or something. [noob]

Change...

- the satisfied ones will likely remain satisfied
- the elderly will cherish their memories from before it
- the fearful will carefully eye it
- the bold will engage it
- the smart will adapt
- the backwards oriented will cry foul
- the apathetic will not notice
- the opportunistic will seek and filter for new possibilities
- the demanding will want more
- the cynic will say "Told you so!"
- the realistic will say "Hell, it's about time!"
- the analyst will compile them and post the finds into the Forum

OP assumes that all change is an improvement, and that anyone who likes something as is are simply not capable of recognizing that change can be an improvement.

Actually, I think the OP probably doesn't believe either of these as is probably just feeling a little poopy this morning.

- the developer will iterate and improve upon it...oh wait...

No, I don't think that. Actually we had a lot of examples where FDev made changes, thought it would be "improvement" but most of us thought different. (but overall ED has improved during time, I see that, but not enough imho)

And Yes, that's true.

My intention was also: I still believe we are a great community (and not toxic or whatever). But I hate it, when somebody makes some proposals, good or bad, and people here, especially some of the better known ones, answer with: No, I don't want to be ED like "insert another games name" and alike. You all know, what kind of response I mean.

It is just rude and shows the dumpness of the responder. It is "i am not interested in your ideas or arguments, I pick something you said out of it and spit it back to you, actually without any thoughts, here you have it". It is bully behaviour.

Bad example: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/389058-Elite-Lessons-from-X-universe-and-EvE-Online

If we could all agree on what constitutes an improvement then it'd be easier - we almost certainly won't though.

Why should we agree? It is FDev who have to agree or disagree to proposals and ideas.

But actually Fdev should just get inspired by us to bring some new or better flavours to the game. That would be enough, or at least, it would be enough if we could see something of it in the game.

I think it is more like: Fdev reads the ideas here and how (some) people react on the ideas and then FDev decides: let us make something completely different, because if we would do it like that idea in the forum, we would get big trouble with those who don't like it. (hyperbole)

Why should we agree?

Fair point.

My point relates to ideas that are considered by some as improvements (and not by others) - not necessarily whether Frontier agree.

It is FDev who have to agree or disagree to proposals and ideas.

Of course.

But actually Fdev should just get inspired by us to bring some new or better flavours to the game. That would be enough, or at least, it would be enough if we could see something of it in the game.

.... and what would be better for some would not be better for others - and Frontier know that.

I expect that Frontier take community feedback into account - we do play the game that they are continuing to develop, after all.
