MLP avatars are mostly used by folks who enjoy the show.

Most of the time they're used as flamebait and to force a reaction like yours just to respond along the lines of:
It gives people an excuse to judge, based on their insecurities and personal complexes.
Remember, aggressive judgment is often a projection of inner conflict.

Haven't noticed something like this on this forum so it might be the former in most cases.

It's like complaining that stellar forge sometimes uses the same colour for creating planets. Oh wait...

The person on the left is Bo, a community content manager at Frontier Developments, she usually plays Planet Coaster but sometimes she'll join Ed Lewis (on the right) to play some ED. This took place on the FrontierDevelopments Twitch channel, where Frontier employees will often play the companys games.
So this is only one stream, raw footage clipped by a user.

It's weird because in the space sim genre, players feel like the must pick a side and trashtalk the other one...
reminds me of the console war.
