Expedition II: The Secrets of 3 Geminorum

Depends what you mean by 'significantly smaller'. I'm in a 40ly iClipper so there'll be a couple of way points I just can't get to, but I'm fine with that. I think Amundsen's may well be one of them. I'll fly my sexy ship to nearly every WP rather than a Volvo* to all of them.

There are a couple of Corvettes, another Clipper and a Sidewinder in the same boat but we all chose to fly what we're flying.

Hehe.. and that's what's so beautiful about it.. "whatever rocks your boat" :D

So I reached Phoi Theia QI-B d13-0 This was the original goal of this journey.. Salute to CMDR Sam Ishum who first discovered this system.. quite amazing by the way.. not too big, but all FSD Premium materials present. Another stopover to replenish the stock and then.. as I was educated in a meanwhile.. off for Amundsen's Star

Observing your route I am just wondering, how people with significantly smaller jump range on DECE handle it.. a lots of boost must be used, or?

In a 62ly Anaconda and still using jumponium. So yeah it's needed. Just depends on how you use it. We have been stocking up on lots pre exped and have been mats foraging en-route. Every jumponium enhanced jump should and is calculated very carefully. Time and effort goes into enabling that jump.
Personally have enough mats for many jumps at basic and standard. Only 1 jump at premium and I'm saving that for when I'm well and truly stuck. It will give me a 124ly jump in a "oner".

Heh, similar.. my Rocinante also jumps 62.5 or so.. I decided however, that if I have to spend so much time collecting jump materials.. I'd collect only As, Nb, Y and Po.. Premium.. even if I burn it on 65Ly jump because I cannot make it. I might be wrong, but materials for level 1 and 2 do not look way easier to be found.
Additionally, the sector I am visiting now.. well, boost only and jumps between 80 - 120 Ly.. I need to use Premium :|

I like the idea of planning though, and how much you put into safety of this Expedition.. I try to do the best I can in a same fashion for my personal en-devours, but scouting with Galaxy map only.. so distances are mostly just estimated

Fly safe

Looks like a great trip! Fantastic photos.

One thing worth considering when looking at powerplants is their heat output - A grades generally put out less heat than Ds so it can be useful to have them to help you scoop more/escape from hot situations rather than going all out for D grades.

My own trip via BP, the most northerly easterly, southerly ponits and the point furthest from sag A* was similar in experience, I kept 20 of each jumponium boost on board all the time (unless having to use them), meant I never really got close to running out or not being able to retrace my steps or being confident I could make it back to an area of stellar density.

The Pereus fade was the most tretcherous area I found.

Deluvian - Grade 1 boosts (germanium and vanadium) are much more easily found than the rarer stuff.

Good luck explorers!

If we only could have more storage for all the materials that we need.. I pretty much threw away all the non mineral materials (for engineering and stuff)
You are right, the A graded was better than D and I just gained like .9 Ly on the jump range by changing it.. but completely unintentionally I built Rocinante in a way, that it runs really cool (20-22% in supercruise or lower in max supercruise)
I do not have to worry about any heat sinks or so while escaping a star after the mistake.. for majority of the stars temperature would not even go beyond 85%

Perseus also on my mind, but first all "6 corners" (and I create a new badge etc.) ;)

Beautiful pics... BTW, another fan of The Expanse?

Thank you.. and yes, but both: The Expanse and Don Quixote :)

Day 9 - Amundsen's Star

Finally arrive at LYED YJ-I D9-0 system, also called "Amundsen's Star".. it was a lot of boosted jumps.. I still have minerals, but I am exactly on the edge.. The edge of the Galaxy as well.. Seems like I just reached the second out of "Six Corners of The Galaxy".. lemme have a look around...

Congrats! That one looks like a bit of a navigational challenge.

Thanks.. and it is, especially that I am trying to get back "home".. without going all around The Outer Arm Vacuus, cut straight to Perseus Arm. Let's see if I am going to make it

Day 11 - Back Home... Expedition II - Debriefing

Lori Jameson was sitting behind her desk.. looked at me slowly and nodded
- Commander.. - Lori's face seemed to be very concerned - it is so good to see you.. I was really worried... after what happened with the extra fuel tank..
- I am here.. in one piece - I laughed cordially
- I see it - she smiled back much more relaxed already - the trip was longer than originally planned.. you were supposed to only to 3 Geminorum right?
- Yes, that was the plan.. but... you know me already - I winked
- What was the deviation from the original plan? - she asked
- Well, again I did not do enough of research before the journey itself, and I was unaware of Amundsen's Star system - I shrugged - Obviously I had to go there and at least check by myself, that there is really nothing beyond.. and it does not look like there is anything...
Lori just smiled gently
- How about Rocinante? Was it enough of fuel? - she asked
- More than enough, so actually whatever happened, helped a little.. I need to reduce the fuel tank capacity even more.. and get rid off some fluff here and there, She still weighs too much - I grunted - and then the thrusters.. I am still nowhere where I need to be: Optimal Multiplier at 119% and Optimal Mass increased by 7.4%.. that is no good
- I shall inform Professor Palin that you'd be coming shortly for a visit, right? - she waited for the confirmation
- I do not have materials yet - I said
- Do not worry, I will just put you on his schedule.. he's very busy lately.. all this Thargoid business drives people insane - she said
- Well, let's see.. as I have some other plans.. I need to repair my budget, I bought Federal Corvette just before my departure - I said
Lori nodded with understanding
- I did not know. Do you want me to look at her? - she asked
- Not yet, I have some crazy plan to invest some more money into an Imperial Cutter and run some serious Passenger Transport business for a while - I stated firmly - I need to have all the funds when Type 10 Defender is on the market
- Very well then, let me know if you need any assistance - Lori bowed her head slightly
- Be sure I will - I saluted getting up from my chair - See you soon Lori
- Fly safe Commander - Lori saluted back

The Goal
This time to the South.. I wanted to find the system which coordinates are way beyond 3 Geminorum.. I must have read some "old story" that supposingly, this one for a very long time was the furthest known.. well, I guess a lot has changed since and I did not know about Amundsen's Star.. Salutes to CMDR Allitnil for discovering (and educating me a little as well ;)). I reached there eventually, and no - I could not find anything beyond that system, not there.. not anywhere else

Pre-expedition Research
Learned so much, but still.. did not spend enough time on studying before the departure.. Next one.. I promise - will be better ;)

Photo Documentation
As mentioned already at the beginning of this thread, there is always an album dedicated to particular expedition. Please have a look, I hope you are going to enjoy it

Expedition II: The Secrets of 3 Geminorum - 3rd Nov to 11th Nov 3303

The Ship
Every time I fly "Rocinante", I love her even more.. but yes, that's true: I could do better with some useless weight and Dirty Drive Tuning.. stretch that jump range to 65.. 67 if I am lucky..

Next Steps
After some solid investments, I need to really repair my budget.. I wanna be around for Type 10 Defender to come.. and one more reason to delay next expeditions is to wait for the Planetary Overhaul

Credits
Thanks a lot for all the cheering, messages, rep, pet on the shoulder.. I hope you enjoyed watching my journey
