Watchdogs free if you want it

The page is a bit unclear to me, is it free to play for a limited time, or do you get it for free if you register during a limited window? The page says you get it for free, the link says its a trial. :p

edit: guess its free forever, cool! Thanks for the heads-up. :D

no worries. i would consider it pretty stingy if it was a free trial. WD 2 maybe but number one is ancient now. it is one which passed me by so anotehr to add to the collection of "will likely never install" games.

Ubisoft does giveaways certain times, so I'm assuming it's not a trial. They do anything to make you like UPlay, after all. Now if only them and EA would finally come to the conclusion that a gifting option like in Steam is a good thing. Maybe I would actually bother with their loathsome UIs.

Hmmm it said the game will be linked to my account yet it doesnt show in my library (logged out too). I can download it right now I just wonder if its going to be still available after the event ends?

Cheers, added it to my account. Probably not going to play it for ages though. Busy playing catch up in ED.

Its in mine too, and unlocked. :S Ubi stated that it will remain available if unlocked during the window, but cant be unlocked after the window (for free).

I have to deal with an atrocity that is Uplay often, because I play R6. I can't see why would anybody ever use it for more than uninstalling time is if Ubi didn't push it so aggressively. Maybe by giving games away they can bring in more users. Unfortunately, they do sometimes still make good games. So you're stuck with it.

Bought this when it came out. Utterly disappointed with it maybe played 10 or 15 hours and dropped it. Load of pump.

I've downloaded it, glad I didn't pay for it, it is sub par compared to some other open world driving games.

But there is some fun to be had. I'll play for a while till I get fed up

I couldn't stand the protagonist in this. It was a pleasure to see him be killed terribly at times inbetween disliking the icontastic splurgeorific samey cardboard cookie cutter gameplay.

Indeed it was a weird move by Ubi to create a protagonist so daft and unlikeable. Seems like they were aiming for something far more interesting, a person with complex motivations and somewhat in a grey area of morale. What they have ended up with is just a *(rhymes with woosh)*.

I refuse to play anything from Ubisoft now, their UI is unwanted and they've had some shady business practises, shame because a few of their games look really interesting.

Watchdogs isn't free. The price you pay is having to install UPlay onto your computer, and that's just too expensive for me.

I understand there are people who don't think this is too costly, have a spare computer, or are just about to reformat and reinstall their operation system. Have fun with the game.

I liked it very much.
If I compare it to GTA V, GTA being the mother of the genre, Watchdogs wins the battle for me.
I felt that the non campaign content was much more interesting and entertaining than what I encountered in any GTA game I played (including GTA V).
There were numerous opportunities for awesome shootouts and this was much better done than in GTA V.

I also liked the main campaign and the world design was incredibly detailed and well done.

The gunplay was just excellent. The weapons felt really good.
I still remember the shootout on a highway I got into with dozens of criminals from two different gangs. It lasted for at least 20 minutes.
I only used a revolver that resembled the Chiappa Rhino and it was an awesome piece of kit (one of the best guns I ever used in a game). The sound and feel of it was incredibly satisfying.

There were downsides too. No game is perfect.
I would have liked to be able to use something like a helicopter for example.
I would have liked to be able to provoke random criminals and the cops to get myself into random escalating combat.
The population AI was too limited for that. I consider that a very big downside!

Many people complained about the driving mechanic, but when you got used to it, it made perfect sense for combined use with the hacking mechanics that are in the game.

In general I really like watchdogs and I had a better time with it than with GTA 5.
I played Watchdogs two times and am thinking about starting a third play through, just for the cool shootouts.
I never looked at GTA V again once I finished it. In GTA IV they had random mission generators, like the ripdeals. I still play GTA IV for that reason.
Stuff like that was never implemented in GTA V and that really diminished its replayability for me.

There is nothing wrong with Uplay.
It is a Ubisoft game hub comparable to Steam. It is very light on system resources and never caused me any grief (it is running in the background as I speak because I am playing a few UBI games at he moment).
It has been improved considerably over time.

In the past I boycotted UBI games because it was such a horrible company, comparable to the abysmal EA.
But in stark contrast to EA Ubi really made an effort to change and win back the favor of their customers.
They communicated with their customers.
They are not perfect, but they now are surprisingly sensitive to criticism and they listen to suggestions.
You can see this in the way they have listened to user suggestions considering UPlay and their games.

The UBI of today is not the same as the UBI of the past.
Of course they make decisions for the good of the company that might not be to our liking, but it is not by a longshot as awful as what EA is still doing today. EA has left a trail of destruction in its wake (just look at the dev studios or IP's they destroyed). UBI is nothing like that.
