OK NPC Ramming OUT-OF-CONTROL At This Point, anybody home at FDev?

SJA communicated quite a lot on these forums for some time.

Didn't turn out very well.

I wish FD could return to those days, but I guess too much bridges burnt. And CM are essentially there to shield devs from toxicity.

MoM™ never seems to catch a break on her babies.

This fix, whenever it comes in, will have to be done with a point update...so the next point update...watch the patch notes...

I would suggest tracking your losses and contact support with a periodic ticket asking for in game reimbursement.

Is the 'bouncy' engineer modification still in game...it looks like these ships might have that active...which means this could be working as intended....

This has been my experience lately also - rammed by small security services and bounty hunting NPCs in RES. Like at stations, appears to be their inability to scan and slow down at the same time. LOL

Sounds like system security is speeding itself LOL.

Most likely 'we are breaking too late' issue with improved thruster changes.

Personally, I don't care if FD tell us what's going on. As long as they fix it again. And maybe they can jot a note down somewhere so they can fix it again when the bug reappears. (No, I didn't say "if the bug reappears").

So, you haven't seen it therefore it cannot exist. Fascinating.
A little bit further on this track, and you can become like the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (which, if you can't see it, assumes that it can't see you).

Our ships definitely need

More of a "we brake for nobody" attitude:

Yep, the NPC's (when scanning a ship) don't appear to brake at all, nor attempt to maintain distance of any kind. They simply point themselves directly at your ship and fly at high speed towards you until one of three things happen:

1. The scan completes.
2. They hit you.
3. They miss you before it completes, in which case they actively turn in an attempt to start the collision course over again.

Before 2.4 they would point their ship at you but modulate their throttle to maintain a safe distance, this is no longer happening and is what seems to be broken now.

You can watch them via the external camera as they continually fly directly at you and plow into your ship. Or just barely miss it where they keep turning back around to do it again. It would be comical if it wasn't so ridiculous.

Even the Thargoids do it, when coming in to scan.

So it's not only stations :)
Here's my unfortunate encounter which didn't go well afterwards.

I've been staying under 100 when leaving the stations. After the 1st scan I've had decent luck in speeding away and boost boost wake.

I've really just started seeing this in the last few days, one whacked right into my conda last night, and I was going slow on the way in to dock.
It's pretty annoying, they just seem to fly about like drunk rammers.

From reading the reports above, is it completely to be ruled out expensive ships are more likely to be rammed than cheaper ones ?

There seems to be an extraordinary amount of people flying around in maxed out Anaconda's so from an attrition warfare pov. it would actually make sense to try to ram those with cheaper ships, certainly for the Thargoids, maybe less so for law enforcement :)

Flying as a beginner in a Cobra, I've never been rammed, and once I started following speed regulation around bases even the close fly-by's stopped.

Never go to RES zones though, can't comment on that.

Look at my video of me in a Sidewinder above. Getting rammed by a Python or FDL when you're in a Sidewinder is a matter of life and death. I had to change my combat technique to have 4 pips to shields at every moment I wasn't firing because of the danger of getting rammed. The danger from ramming is far worse than coming under fire from an Elite Anaconda. I lost count of the number of times I had to limp back to the station with 30% hull without an enemy ever having landed a shot on me.

But next to that sidewinder you have fully equipped larger ships in your stable I gather ?

It's very easy to track that sort of thing since everything is stored online -

My question really is this - do you put it beyond the developers to implement a game mechanic - some sort of AI algorithm - that takes into account player profile and tailors AI reaction to it ?

A foreshadowing of the "Karma System" I heard talk about ?

I would consider it, and as a programmer I would enjoy coming here and reading the frantic reaction afterwards, especially since the game is a sort of WIP and it's very easy to slightly adjust the code at any time :x

Edit, come to think of it, one way to test this would be for an experienced player to log into the account of a beginner and fly around a bit, any difference should be quickly noticeable...

FWIW....

I spent a lot of time doing HazRes farming during the recent Kamadhenu CGs, so I think I'm capable of making a reasonable comparison.

I had my first serious session of HazRes farming since 2.4 dropped last night and I was pretty shocked at how many times I saw ships crash into asteroids.

NPC mining ships would be attacked, throttle up and faceplant into asteroids.
NPC escort ships would head toward attackers and smack into asteroids.
Attackers would indulge in all sorts of astrobatics, apparently oblivious of their proximity to asteroids, and end up smashing into them.

I spent about 2 hours in a HazRes (I was really there for the mat's and scans) and, honestly, at least half of my kills were assisted by NPCs smacking into asteroids and losing their shields.

So, it's not just the SysSec ships.
Seems like all the aggressive NPCs have lost their AI marbles. [sad]

I was getting rammed from all angles 😶
I've tried to keep my speed under 100 and I've not been rammed since.
Except just now in my type 9, auto docking and an NPC in a beluga decided to fit through the station entrance at the same time. Surprisingly no fine, just considerable damage (approx 80,000).

So according to Eagle Boy's logic, because I've never had a heart attack, and I've never seen or known anyone personally who had a heart attack, heart attacks don't really exist.

Honestly, if FD has said that they can't reproduce this bug, then their QA team is completely incompetent.
