PvP What woudl YOU do if...

A sudden patch was released with the change that:pF pilots could no longer inflict ANY damage on other PF pilot vessels - even through misfire/splash/mines*How would this affect your gameplay and attitude towards the game/FDev. Would you still play? Would you play more? Would you play in a different game mode?Whether this change would make any rational "realism" sense is not such a big deal, there's hundreds of things that contradict reality in favour of promoting gameplay that are far more significant.*I suppose a mine woudl either explode and do no damage or remain iunert until NPC approached? The details aren't important, this is more to do with a feel of the community reaction.

Is the idea for a PvE mode?
There's no "idea" here. The "justification" for such an implementation is up in the air - I didn't consider the scope of the question required such - if it matters to your anwswer, though then, of course please elaborate. Otherwise, ignore it or pick some generic thing that might fit.i was more interested in seeing the number and type of responses/attitudes - admittedly there is inherent bias in those who will even be aware of the thread, let alone responding because this is posted in the "PvP" section. If such a change occurred (Pretty sure it wont. Ever.) - This would not be a '"PvE"mode' - The entirety of ED (including whatever modes exist) would be a non-PvP game.

Honestly, it wouldn't affect my game much, if at all. Despite playing in Open I tend to avoid PvP stuff.

I would still play but tbh even as someone who is not into PvP I do not think this would be a good move. The argument not a big deal because of other issues in the game I do not agree with. Imo I would like to see less "gamey" features by improving those already in the game. Not adding more.

That said . An official pve mode people choose to enter... Well that was (kind of) in the design documents so it would be hypocritical for me to be against it as an option

I would miss having to police my fire however in a group fight.

I think this could be a base game option - select a PVE server with this option, or a PVP server without this option.

Why is this in the PVP section?

The pve server cannot be archieved due to many reasons discussed before.

Healing beam effect proves they can twiddle weapons to do no damage between players, should be relatively simple to apply it right across the board. They'd also have to patch out ramming, actually they could remove damage and add a force shell effect to ramming plus a comedy boing noise and we could all play station dodgems.

A plan with no drawbacks.

I would quit playing the game.

I hardly do any PvP but I love the constant tension that playing in Open gives. When I see the hollow mark on my radar...Is it FdL? Phew, It's just an Asp Explorer. I found that few things give me more satisfaction than escaping a gank attempt. Maybe I'm weird but I don't want that to be taken away from me. If all that is left are the idiotic NPCs, I'm out. The same I would do if PvP was limited to some walled zoo. I want my cutthroat galaxy left intact.

I wouldn't do much different. I haven't had the motivation to do security since the engineer cheating came to light. Over time I imagine I would gradually play less and less in private groups, since they would presumably shrink as the majority of the playerbase gravitated towards the new open.

Since it does not affect the forum gameplay... well it wouldn't affect me really LOL

no. honestly. I think it's a bad idea. Would not like it. I don't pvp much. But I play open and like the possiblity of pvp.

I don't PK or go looking for PvP. The rebuy, for me, is like money you'd budget for your night at the casino. It's already lost. If you brake even, that's $100 profit, enough for the night of entertainment to pay for itself. As a result I might stick around in anything smaller than a Vulture once the exotic weapon effects start happening. Anything with over 1MCR rebuy I'll run if I don't get a quick, decisive advantage. Doesn't mean I expect to get away. I like flying shieldless traders. I like dancing in supercruise to run a blockade. I don't immediately surrender when I'm being interdicted. If I start to feel I'm losing and have the good sense to submit, I try to low wake and risk it. The whole thing is suspenseful and I bring what I'm prepared to lose. Still sucks when I lose but without the risk there's no value to the contrary. Nothing beats barely escaping in an unarmed, unshielded T9.
It would devastate my gameplay out of principle. Every task would carry the feeling that they plan to move in that direction. PvP flags, consensual piracy, tea for two and then have it out on the cobbles. If they keep making the argument that the game is already fake I have to ask where your threshold is. Might as well collect coins and fly through golden rings to turn them blue. If you make them all blue you get a participation trophy and a special prize everyone else already has. At what point is it too much for you? It started out as an immersive simulator with two or three accepted magics to allow it to function. As they give up on things they just say, "well, that's not realistic either, just have artificial gravity and make it easy" or "Realistic? Ha! You're delusional! You don't even know what that means."
Which is why you have to say verisimilitude and suspension of disbelief.
Telepresence already damaged this game a lot for me. It was included to explain away some of the magic unnecessarily while creating the need for more magic to explain why it isn't just used for everything.

This would make the whole game just a simulator within a game I play on my computer. One step too redundant. Utterly abandoning any attempt at realism.

It was all just a dream.

.

its probably for another thread but i totally agree with you here. When ED 1st launched there were a number of "holes" where we had to close our eyes and pretend they were not happening. I fully expected in time for them to be filled out.

I thought ships may eventually take some time to load / repair and rearm , once there were missions on the mission board with suppplied ships to do in the mean time.
i thought perhaps a 2 min "sequence" on ship destruction would be added, but that FD needed to get the game out of the door.
I was hugely dissapointed when the game went into gamma and the exploration mechanics were still the same as they were in beta, we were meant to have to "discovered" the jump co-ordinates to go to new systems in deep space not honk jump...

but rather than fill in the existing holes, FD dug new ones, with 3d printing of fighters in our holds (in which case why is everything not 3D printed?)
telepresence accross the entire milkyway - in which case why does anyone fly a ship, why cant i remote control my SRV, why cant i see what comodity data prices are next door?
